I have owned a cw9 for a few years and wanted to step up a bit so i purchased a new cw45 in january. It kicks a bit more, not as comfortable to appendix carry, and a bit heavier than my cw9, but it does fit my hand better. I originally put 200+ rounds through it and it seemed like every few rounds it would not return to battery or there would be a failure to feed causing a round to get jammed in the top of the barrel (ramp)? I sent it to kahr in march and they said the put in a new extractor and fired 4 or 7 magazines with no issues. Both issues still persist although generally not as often. It tends to start about the 5th magazine, although today it started on the 1st. Im stumped on this. Just fyi i do used decent ammo, generally federal brass or aluminum and i have tried 4 other brands as well. They all have the same issue. I do clean the gun before using it, because 45 ammo seems to cake up pretty good. I do want to keep this gun but am frustrated.

I wonder what would cause this? Too bad they do not make reduced and increased power recoil springs. My assumption is that or the magazine might be the culprit.

Has the same issued happened with anyone else shooting the gun. They require a rock solid grip.

I have a CW45 that I recently purchased, but have only fired 200 rounds of WWB JHP through it (zero malfunctions). On my CW45, the kick was very pleasant (a slow push rather than a snap). However, I'm comparing it to my CM9 and K9 (don't own a CW9) using +P.

Are you using the stock magazine? I noticed bullet hangups on the top of the barrel when I tried racking in snap caps with a WC compact magazine. Also, are you using JHP, FMJ, flat nose FMJ, 230gr, 180gr, etc.? Have you tried other brands through it?

Also, Federal's AE FMJ gave me malfuction after malfunction with my CW40 (although that gun is not fully broken in). It was a different issue than yours, though, as the flat tip nose kept getting stuck on the feed ramp.

I am using factory magazines direct from Kahr. I am using FMJ target, loads from Federal, Winchester, Remington, and a few more recognized brands which I forget now. No reloads here.

UPDATE - I sent the CW45 bto Kahr a month ago and have called them several times since. I have been told several that the gunsmith should be taking it to the range shortly. I was told last week that the gunsmith was waiting on a tool, and that the tool just arrived and they should taking it to the range shortly. They told me that they ship weapons Monday through Thursday and the CW45 should be shipped back to me shortly. I told them that the weapon needs to be shipped this Monday or it needs to be replaced with a new one or a refund given. I have had good customer service from Kahr in the past but am disappointed now.

Never had an issue with my CW45. Operator error my opinion.

They tested it and i guess they found a fault in the firearm, again? So it appears there was an ISSUE WITH THE FIREARM ITSELF. A rep said they put in another extractor in it, and this time they filed it down? The rep said they ran 4 different brands of ammo and 12 mags through it with no issues. I should be getting it back tomorrow and testing it as well. I really want to keep the CW45 but it has to be reliable.

Here's hoping it works out for you!

Good news I think... I received the cw45 back today and took it for a test fire of 100 rounds. I did have a FTF on about round 70, but I will admit I may have limp wristed it when firing rapidly. Heres what Kahr did to hopefully fix the cw45
-smoothed out frame rails
-polished extractor
-replaced recoil spring

They also tested it with 12 full mags of 4 different kinds of ammo.

Lets hope this issue is resolved now.

That's a good range report. I had some issues with my CW45, but worked them out. I believe it was well worth the effort as it is my favorite Kahr pistol.
It's also my favorite compact, poly frame .45ACP pistol.

250ish rounds so far and no issues. I can now carry concealed with confidence.
