I had ordered a SS guide rod to replace my factory galvanized steel rod earlier this week on Monday. I got the new rod, along with a spare mag and new recoil spring with only one problem. While I was replacing the guide rod, I had a bit of a problem installing the new rod and spring assemblies. It just wouldn't fit. So I removed the guide rod and spring and compared it to the old parts. There was about a 1/8th inch difference between the two rods and the new one was the longest.
I had noticed that the bag for the ss rod said: for Kahr models CW40, C45 and new P40. There was an asterisk next to the New P40 part and it read: Please contact Kahr Arms to identify your firearm. It's part number P40SGR
So...I contacted Kahr this morning about the problem. I gave them my serial number to help him. He told me at first to send in the ss rod that I received and include documentation of the overall length of my factory rod so that they have a reference point. Then, he told me that he needs to speak with his supervisor for a minute. He then tells me that Kahr will send me another ss rod that is a bit shorter on exchange for the one that I had received yesterday. They will also send me a return envelope for the other ss rod. Hearing this made me very pleased and releived that the issue will be resolved. I should be getting the new and possibly correct part sometime next week :D
Sorry about the rant, but I posted this thread to warn others about what may happen to them and let others know how great their customer service was for me. When I had asked him if he knows what happened, he said that he didn't know. Maybe it was packaged wrong at the factory? He told me my P40 is a 2005 model. I had no idea since I bought it used from a local shooting range/shop but I also didn't ask. Maybe it said on the slip that was attached to it in the showcase. I was told however that it had about 95% of the life left. I didn't expect it to be a 2005 model though! Not that there is a problem with that.

just think about that statement....How can a person at kahr tell you that you have about 95% left in that gun. If that was true they wold have to know so many things about the gun etc, such as what total life is of a kahr. I certainly have never read or seen any total life expectancy of a kahr. He wold hav eot know how many rounds has even been through the gun, which you yourself don't know, so how could they. that fact that is is 5 years old means nadda. If a part break in a kahr, you just fix it and continue on, it is not shot, or worn out. I sometimes wonder where they get these kind of people. You might ask them just what 5% you lost in buying this 5 year old gun, that outta keep um busy for a month figuring out that question.
I love kahrs but I sometimes question someo f the stupidest answers some of thesekahr ca people give to a owner, and not just the one in question here either.
I think this 95% reply has to top the "cosmetic" crap answers they give some owners when they can hardly read the stampings on thier new slides..
sorry about that guys..
I wonder what the life if my kahr is in percentages now that it has 30,000+ rounds through it??Wow, such stupidity..
Its a guessing game just like a freaking doctor telling a cancer patient he has 6 months to live and 6 years later he is still here...

Jocko: I believe you've misunderstood my post. I was saying that the gun shop that I had bought my P40 from told me that I have 95 or so percent left when I had asked them. This is my first handgun so I didn't have much knowledge of what to look for in fine detail other than the obvious damage. When I had looked at it for the first time it did look to be in good condition. I have put about 300 or so rounds though it so far and who knows how many it has been through before I brought it home. Sorry, I can be confusing at times.

That's the way I read it too. No matter who said it, what Jocko said is true. You can't possibly break down the projected life span of any firearm even if you know exactly how many rounds were fired thru it.
Most guns will outlive us and our kids and probably our kids kids too.
May need to replace a part or a spring now and then but one way or another they'll keep right on going.

Reminds me of my old hardware days. I don't know how many times guys would ask how many boards can I cut with this blade before it wears out?
Gee, let me ponder that.

But but but, did the ss rod affect the gun's performance in any way?

no harm, no foul. U only quoted what a dealer told you. We have to understand some of these sales people who hawk" their products think we the consumer is just stupid. I have seen so much of this crap given by Harley Davidson sales people when trying to sell someone a bike. It makes me puke sometimes. That is why a person when buying any product, #1 study up on it before going into a sales shop, be prepared to hear B. S. Then you decide on the merits of your findings not that of a sales person. You are their basically to buy the gun, not hear a sales speech, You have already did your research etc, and you more than likely have full knowledge of what direction u now want to go. I have seen quite a few times in a gun shop when a person asks for a certain gun and they don't have it. the first thing out of their mouth is " we don't stock that gun any more, yadda yadda due to to many issues, but now we do have this really jim dandy gun on stock for yadda yadda price. If you travel the gun forum, u will find pros and cons of every gun made to and I know it can be confusing to many but if you read enough, you will get the feel of a certain gun maker and his quality standards and issues etc. I see a few times here one will come on this forum and say werll I bought a PM9 but was hesitant after reading of so many issues with the PM9. This is not true but again in defense of the poster, he is going to read more of issues with a certain gun maker on a certain gun forum more than the positives, as 99% of most people probably never visit a gun forum to post either pro's or cons.
So for all my rambling above, the bottom line for me is: Do your own research on the product you are wishing to buy, ask questions, then flip a coin as to buy or not to buy for it is still a crap shoot....

Cfrank: I'm not sure about performance yet since I have yet to install it. I didn't buy it mainly for performance reasons but for longevity. The guide rod in my P40 is showing the "normal" wear and I think it has a slight bend in it.
Jocko: yeah thanks, I did do some research but not a whole lot before I had bought my P40. Ive had it for about a month now and couldn't be happier. Salesmen are pretty much paid liars trying to sell you the most expensive thing that you can possibly afford. I am happy so far with Kahr products and customer service. I do know that a lot of the people that are happy don't post their good experiences with them here. I have read those PM9problem threads here on the forum and people are skeptical to buy one due to the amount of problems that some are having. I do plan on getting a P380 or PM9 one day for a pocket carry or more concealable handgun for IWB.
