I have the generation of PM40 that has a recoil assy with smaller button end than current assemblies. I received a newer recoil spring assy and it would not fit. I settled for just a new main spring, although I had to cut a few coils off to match the coil count of the old spring. Kahr CS advised me to do that.
It seems to shoot fine. Earlier problems I had with slide locks have been settled with new mag springs. FTFs have been addressed by finding an SD bullet point that would feed okay. I am using Hornady XTP 180 gr.
I am aware that there is an upgrade package for older PM40s at $195. I won't go that route unless I have further problems demanding that a complete new generation recoil spring assy be used.
Now I am on to my T40, which has been denting the mouths of cases. I installed a new recoil spring and am going to the range tonight to see what ejected cases look like now. I have a new ejector and a date with a gunsmith, if the angle of ejection needs to be customized. We'll see. I have three Kahr 40s, a PM, a P, and a T, and only the T is slamming cases at present. The P40 has the fewest rounds through it, virtually new and working great. It is stunningly more accurate than the PM40 and only a fraction of an inch longer barrel. While partial to carrying a chopped Kimber .45, I really like the P40 and will use it a lot in a shoulder holster this winter.
