Hello. My name is Butch and I just joined this forum today. I bought a used KAHR CW9 and like the look and feel. I took it to the range yesterday and test fired it for the first time. I shot around 40 rounds of Winchester white box ammo in 115 grain. I ran into two issues while test firing it. The first issue was that it shoots about 3-4" low at 21 feet but the group was not bad (about 3" or so). The second issue is that I somehow hit the mag release button 3 different times while shooting with a two handed grip. I thought about filing the front sight down some to raise my point of impact but there is not much to work with since it is already pretty low. I'm not sure how to solve the mag release problem since I don't want to change my grip style. I was wondering if anyone else run into these problems with the CW9 and what they did to solve the issues. Can anyone recommend good replacement sights for the CW9?

Before you change the sights on the gun, shoot it more and adjust to the Kahr sights. If your gun has the Kahr dot the I sights, try leaving more space between the post of the i, and the dot of the i. That will raise your POA and POI.
Also, there is a chance that once you are accustomed to the trigger, your shots will raise up. It doesnt take much movement of your wrist to lower the POA immediately prior to firing, which would lower your POI.
If if you can hit a quarter pretty consistently at 3 yards, then the sights should do the same at 7 yards. It took me some time to realize that. After I spent time practicing at 3 yards, and getting all my shots in the x ring, my 7 yard groups improved.
Welcome to the forum!

I concur. Most new Kahr shooters shoot low and usually left for right handers. More trigger time often times straightens things out considerable.

Ive hit the mag release, just gotta remember to loosen up your grip a little. Adjust where your fingers go, and that issue will go away.

Part of the shooting enjoyment for me is figuring out the idiosyncrasies of a particular firearm I own. They all shoot different, and all of the sights work differently with your eye. I think that the small Kahr's are more difficult to shoot because of the size and the death grip you need to maintain for them to function properly. If your not used to dot the eye sights, that presents another challenge. You just have to do what everyone else suggests. Shoot it more. Experiment. Your difficulties sound like everyone else's when they first shoot a small firearm. I love the sight type, but had to get used to their position, just like any other firearm. No one ever said it was a cheap hobby.:p Use the $90++++ denaro that you would have spent on sights and use it for ammo. These days that could be 10 boxes...

Welcome! A lot of people recommend dot the i with these sights. Personally, I shot Kahrs low until I started hiding the bullseye. That's just me though and YMMV. Remember too that these aren't really target guns, they're self defense guns. Accuracy is important of course but 3" groups at 21', while impressive and fun, aren't really necessary. IMHO 6" groups to CM at 21' will accomplish the same (desired) result. I used to shoot at 9" paper plates with a 2" black bullseye painted on but now I just shoot at 6" paper plates and the objective is all holes in the plate. Most of them go close to where the bullseye was though.

For carry guns I consider minute of pie plate (paper plates the same) plenty good.

Thanks for the input. I have other KAHR pistols(CW40 and CW45) that I shoot reasonably well. I just need more practice with the CW9 I guess. Windage is fine but I consistently shoot 3" low. Still not too bad for sd.

Thanks. I will try to change my grip a little. Need more practice too lol.

Thanks. I agree. The CW9 and other similar KAHR pistols are not designed to be target pistols. If I get decent groups of say 3 to 4 inches in the black at 21 feet I am happy. That's more than adequate for sd.

124 gr should raise the point of impact
Try some,

I have a tough time with my CM9 getting similar accuracy that I get with Glock. The 124 gr does help.

Thanks all. Haven't been on the forum for awhile. Took the CW9 to the range yesterday and made a slight grip adjustment and did much better. Sights seem dead on at 30 feet, no ftfs and no surprise mag releases! I got about a 2.5" to 3" group with most in the bullseye and 9 ring. I'm happy with it now.

I've heard that some of the earlier CW guns have had some magazine release issues, but my CW45 & CW9 seem to not have any issues. I'm pretty sure they make the mag release button out of a MIM part, and the older ones might have been plastic? Mine are metal.

And you can add a grip sleeve too.
