Anyone else wonder why Kahr doesn't have a double stack firearm ?
TP9 would be a good candidate for this.

probably because that market segment is already controlled by the big dogs. xd, glock etc are already well established in the compact double stack 9mm segments with great products and prices.

I wonder why some other gun makers don't make more single stacks. I'd love to have a Kahr sized pistol made by HK. :D

If you want a double stack Kahr, buy a Glock.

If Kahr moved away from the "thin is sexy" ad campaign, the models they use may not be as attractive. "Double Stack Dorothy" just wouldnt sell as many guns :)

Double stack market is already crowded. I was wishing Springfield would make a single stack XD9. got tired of waiting and bought the PM9. No regrets there.

the reason xd has not made a single stack 9mm is probably the same that glock doesnt: because they legally can't. atf put a protectionist point system on the books a generation or two ago, prohibiting imports of guns that don't score well enough. the objective of the system was to ban imports on cheap pocket pistols, mainly from italy i believe, so no wonder all the current imported doublestack ultra compacts are barely meeting the reqs. my understanding is that single stack 9mm compacts dont have enough ammo capacity to pass. in the same time they have little or no domestic market as european countries typically do not allow concealed carry (or any carry at all for that matter :)) by civilians. it's a shame, i'd love to see more competition in this market.

I guess that's how Walther gets away with it there made by S&W in the states.

...because they legally can't.

Sorry, but no. Single stack mags and capacity have nothing to do with the 1968 import bans. If Glock or SA wanted to make single stack frames for any of their guns, they could do so, and in fact Glock does, (G36). Market demand and the target markets manufactureres are selling to determine these factors.

mainly from italy i believe,

It pertained to guns from any country, not Italy in particular. Some great German, French, Spanish and other guns that didn't qualify were just as banned as Italy's imports.

Size is what matters. For example; a Walther PPK cannot be imported but the slightly larger PPK/S can, and is. Same gun but with more "length points".

I checked my sources and it turns out I was wrong. The legal problem with a single stack version of the G26 would not be the lack of ammo capacity but the lack of weight. The G36 passes because even though it is single stack, it is heavier than the double stack G26. A single stack version of the G26 could only be imported if it Glock somehow added dead weight, e.g. by filling grip cavities with lead or similar, in order to keep it as heavy as the G26.

The Glock FAQ: glock_faq_glock_model_info (http://www.glockfaq.com/content.aspx?ckey=Glock_FAQ_Glock_Model_Info#point s)

Oh, and my apologies for making it sound like the ban was limited to Italian imports. What I really meant was that this general import ban was created in an attempt to stop imports of pocket guns that were largely made in Italy.

g36 is a single stack?

Yup single stack 45. Sort of Glocks version of the PM45 only slightly clunkier but a darn nice gun.

the glock 380 are not allowed to be sold over the counter in this country. LEO'S only. and that is due to it lack of points to make import requirements..

If you want a double stack Kahr, buy a Glock.

I would certainly buy a Kahr sized (let's start with a K9 then move to a PM 9), Kahr quality SS pistol by HK, especially if it were DAO with Kahr's smooth trigger.

The only double stack pistol I have Ever Liked was the 1917 Savage. Since the Model 59 S & W, DS pistols have gone steadily downhill in terms of handling.

I probably would not buy another single stack pistol simply because I cannot imagine anyone building anything better than the Kahr's we already have.
