I'm looking to purchase a mobile gun safe. Any recommendations on brand type and installation?
Thanks,

Well I see we kind of left BugRunner hanging here. What's up with that. I dont have much experience with safes that you'd like put in your car. I do have some small safes little over a foot square made by stack on. They work real well for my needs. Can be bolted down or cabled.
We did put small single gun safes in some of our patrol cars to secure weapons when officers visit places that they can't take their guns. The prison, the Y doesn't allow them to bring guns in when they are using the gym or swimming and stuff. I can't for the life of me remember what brand those were.
If you do a search I believe Wynn did a pretty complete comparison on the small versions here. I know it's come up before for sure.
Sorry we left you on ignore so long, I figured one of the guys would jump in there and help you. Welcome, we'll try to do better in the future.

I only posted about the one for airline travel. if no one can help, just Google gun safe or gun safe for cars and find the best deal. You can find tests of anything online, too, especially YouTube.
Sorry I can't help you more. I know there are a lot of products for that, but I don't know anything about them and can't give any advice.

I just bought one of these safes at the local gun show this past weekend. It was the Secure It brand. I had planned on ordering one (with a combo lock) online from gun vault. As it turned out the Secure It one had a combo lock plus it was less expensive not to mention there were no shipping charges. Try out these links:

If you are still out there BugRunner... You can narrow down choices by determining how you'll use it.

For example, some mobile safes/boxes have a mounting plate you could bolt into a trunk then mount the safe to the plate. You can remove it by removing a bolt from inside the safe. Not quick but not permanent.

Others use a cable you can thread around a trunk bracket and leave there, using it for temporary storage while in a non-carry place. If you want to keep the gun inside the box, it's easy to unlock the box pop the cable off re-lock it and carry the box and contents away. Fits in a briefcase.

These are cheap enough to have several like I do, 1 for each car and one strung through your bed frame for night use. The same case can be found under the Secure-It (http://www.cabelas.com/p-0045006228564a.shtml) and GunVault (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gun-Vault-Nano-Vault-200-Hand-Gun-Storage-Safe-in-Black/14222104) names for about $30.

Then there's the rugged gun case of similar material that new guns come with (Pelican (http://www.caseplaceusa.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=40&cat=Pelican+Handgun), StormCase) (http://www.caseplaceusa.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=50&cat=StormCase+Handgun). Some of these have lots of foam, are waterproof and rugged enough to bounce a bit in the trunk. Some are not rugged but cheap like the Plano (http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum8990.php) one for $32.

Then you get to strength requirements. Does it have to defeat a determined burglar, or just curious kids. Huge cost difference here. Basically the difference between a box and a safe.

Size: How large are the guns & accessories?

I recently bought a $25 key lock steel box from Walmart that's considered a pistol box. Looking at the door, it is 9.25" wide, 7.25" Tall and 13" deep with a shelf and foam inside. It's made by Stack-On and labeled as Winchester (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Winchester-Pistol-Box/14894369). Another just like it is labeled Stack-On (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Stack-On-Pistol-Safe-Steel/13449124) and is $32. One reviewer stated he defeated it in under 5 minutes because it's only spot welded. But I don't think a kid is going to do that

Hope this helps.
