One recommendation would be to replace the recoil spring at about 1500 rounds to be safe

It depends. Do you have any problems with your PM9? I've heard that stronger recoil springs reduce recoil and also help remedy failure to feed and return to battery issues. I just received a new stainless steel guide rod for my P40 along with a new recoil spring to replace my regular factory rod. My old rod showed wear and had a slight bend in it. The ss rod is stronger and is supposedly not going to wear as much or bend.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it....goes double for something you're betting your life on, imo.
