I know most of you like the short grip/long barrel version of the PM9 covert. Some of you have even made your own by chopping the grip on a P9.
Being that I carry at 1:00, I like the new long grip/short barrel version. Unfortunately, these are unobtanium at the moment so I was thinking about making my own. I mean if you guys can chop the grip, why can't I chop the slide barrel and frame? Maybe take a half inch off. Makes sense that when I run it through the table saw I should just do it all at once. Only downside I can see is that if I take a half inch off I'll lose the sight. Probably no biggie as I don't tend to hit what I'm aiming at anyway.

I think we have a bit of terminology to correct. Unless I am mistaken---and I may very well be---the "P9 Covert" had the standard P9 barrel and slide on a PM9 frame. The "PM9" had both a short slide and barrel on a short grip.
I think if one was to cut off part of barrel and front of slide, they'd run into a mass vs. recoil spring issue plus need to reweld a front onto their slide. I am sure that could be done with the gear needed to weld stainless steel unless one found a very early K9 with carbon steel slide.
However, if you want to do this, go at it! You might start a trend or be able to start a business making customized Kahrs. Good luck!

I like that idea. The one thing I would think would have to be considered is the front frame rails. I wonder if a CM9 slide could be put on a CW9 frame to check function before committing and going all the way. May be some minor differences in the barrel lug or slide travel but I don’t know.

The front frame rails on the P9 are too long for the CM9 slide.

I think you're right about terminology. Do you think a bunch of sparks will fly when I cut through the slide?

Thats too bad. I’d love a CT9 frame with a CM9 slide (I think.)

Cutting through metal tends to cause sparks.
How do you intend to do it? Hacksaw? Grinding wheel? Band saw? Plasma cutter? Blowtorch?
I'd go with band saw myself.

Yep, the factory P9 covert was built using a chopped P9 frame vice just putting a P9 top end on a PM9 frame.

If he wasn't, I sure hope he makes a video:w00t:

I was sitting here thinking about how Kahr might update their line without losing the attributes that Kahr fans like. One way could be to go to a more modular design so that frames and slides could be swapped. Maybe even serialize the fire control unit and make it easy to remove.
There’s another manufacturer who does this with a very popular line of 9mm pistols. I won’t name them so this doesn’t devolve into another one of those discussions that you have to lock. [emoji4]

I agree and as a big fan of the Kahr, I would like to see a modular design as well. I love the Nano/Apx with that design. I have two Nano's, one with the Nano grip and one with the APX. Easy to change out, work on, clean etc. Also I would like to see the CM/Pm ditch the bulky take down lever or make it more streamline or indented.

I also carry at 1:00 when IWB. I'm 6', 170 lbs and also like a short barrel and extended grip. Generally carry with the extended mag for a bit more grip. The pm45 hides perfectly from the belt under the front pocket.

Seems like the logical thing to do would be to start with a PM 9 and add a grip extension. Gotta say, though, I think our collective legs are being pulled here.
having read scattershots' PM9/grip extension post, I feel vindicated for being a cheap SOB by using a 7 rd. mag w/o a collar as a grip extension with my CM9; it works fine drawing from IWB/OWB holsters with no stoppages of any kind, no printing issues either. I guess I've inadvertently made a CM9 Covert. or maybe I should say CM9 Pervert. LOL
