View Full Version : New cw 9
Just bought A Cw9 and just wanted to know is any certain hardball ammo better for break in of the new Kahrs? I own A tp45 and A pm45 and both seem not quite as tight as the cw9. I know A break in period of 200 rounds is what Kahr says to run through it before using as A carry pistol and im sure it will take it to break it in but just hunting for best ammo for the break in period, I love this gun I wanted the pm9 but as always the price got me on the cw9 , couldnt beat it for another Kahr pistol thanks for any info and advise :D

Nothing wrong with the CW pal, many actually prefer the look and lines of the CW over the PM.
Any ball ammo will work fine for ya for break in. I try to stick with the better brands if I can afford it or get my hands on it. I used Blazer Aluminum case in my brother in laws CW and my PM45 and it worked fine. I don't care much for the Wolf stuff but that's just me, some like it just fine. The point is just don't waste good expensive carry ammo until things are running smoothly. It might not take 200 to be running good or it might take a few more. I have my own 350 round count before any gun earns a spot on my belt. Just gotta reach whatever point trips your confidence level.
Read Jocko's proper prep in the tech section if you haven't already, theres an excellent lube chart there too. I wish you all the best, hope she just runs fine right out of the box.

Hi Jeff, welcome to the asylum. I'd suggest either Remington or Winchester 115 grain FMJ - best prices usually are at WalMart. Worked with no problems for me.

I bought a CW9 3 weeks ago. Followed Jocko's prep instructions and proceeded to put 600 rounds of WWB, Speer Lawman and Federal through it with no problems of any kind. An amazing piece. Bought a CW45 2 weeks ago. 2 FTF and 1 FTE in the 1st 150 rounds. No problems in the last 200 rounds. I can't seem to put these guns down. There is a P380 in my near future.

I agree-I have a CW9, PM9 and a P380 and of the three I think the CW9 "looks and feels" best of them all. I think the differences in the rifling is a bunch of hooie-I mean lets face it, these things aren't target pistols-trigger pull, sight radius, etc. come to miind. These are pistols designed to be used for self defense and that's pretty much about it.
Doesn't mean they aren't fun to shoot though-a BUNCH more fun than my Keltecs are.:)
I picked up some Federal 115 grain 9mm in brass cases for less than 10 bucks a box at Wallyworld last week! They seem a good bit cleaner than the WW stuff-must be the Ball powder in the WW's?

Of all the ammo I tried, in a CW9 and PM9, UMC 115 FMJ has the longest over all length and I thought any feeding problems would happen with it.
After the proper prep, I tried all the cheap bulk ammo and even alternately loading 3 brands with UMC in the mix.
I'm happy to say, I could NOT create any function problems.
Just sayin'

I've never found any ammo from bulk FMJ and JHP to GD's and GS's that wasn't 100% in my CW9.

the ammo that my CW9 likes best, is the DRT 9mm 85 gr. I have shot enough to make sure that there is a reliable feed every time. The muzzle flash is reduced and the recoil is very light, making it very easy for follow up shots....
