I have a slight desire to blue the slide on my backup cw380 and was wondering if anyone has any experience or advice.

Pretty sure all the 380 slides are stainless steel.
Cold bluing solutions will not work to any substantial degree (if at all).
Caswell makes a stainless steel blacking solution that works cold, but I've found it gives barely adequate results and that's only on small pieces that will not see much wear.
Stainless can be hot blued, but you need the correct salts and equipment. Think a professional or well equipped hobbyist
Plating and vapor deposit are, IMO, the realm of specialists.
DIY'ers will see the least expensive and decent results with spray on finishes like Duracoat, Gun Kote, Cerakote, etc.

Depending on how well my vintage K9 shoots, I may get the sharp edged around the trigger guard smoothed over and then get it cerakoted in a 2-tone scheme.

I think Cerakote would be the best option. I helped a friend Cerakote his beat-up old 1911 (Since I have the blaster, oven & gun). After coating it, and polishing all the small parts it looked like a new gun. After two years it held up as well as, or better than any factory finish.
