View Full Version : P9 vs TP9 concealment and shooting?

Hello All,
I am considering my next Kahr purchase and your input would be appreciated. I have a S9 and absolutely love the gun. It is a really comfortable gun to carry.

I considered my next purchase to be the P9 because it is the same size and weight as the S9. However, I then began to look at the TP9 which has a slightly longer barrel and weighs 4 ounces more. So the TP9 would seem to offer greater recoil control and it would seem to offer better accuracy?

1. Has anyone compared the TP9, or any similar sized Kahr, to the P9 and did you find recoil/accuracy to be better?
2. Does the additional weight and size make it less comfortable to carry? I carry IWB and I'm not concerned about a slight amount of profiling. My goal is just to make the gun inconspicuous whereas the vast majority of people wouldn't notice.

I'm still leaning toward the P9 but if the TP9 is a much better shooting gun then I may go that route. I can shoot my S9 very well but the thought of creating even tighter groups and being able to shoot even faster would be quite appealing. But only if it didn't affect concealment significantly.

God Bless,
Ralph

Ralph III,

What, exactly, about the P9 has you considering it over your S9? Is it the target-grade polygonal barrel (and the promise of a more accurate pistol)? Is it the better sights (and the promise of easier target acquisition)? Is it the aesthetics (e.g., the better milling on the slide, or the smooth chin)? Is it the better quality parts (e.g., the tool steel parts rather than MIM parts)? Something else?

I'm giving the S9 to my daughter.

If the TP9 offers greater recoil control and slightly tighter groupings (in part due to the longer barrel and polygonal rifling) then it would be a good purchase for me as long as there isn't a big difference in concealment (IWB). There are more sight options available for the Premium series as well which is another consideration.

I don't see the P9 as having much of an advantage over the S9 quite honestly. My S9 is very accurate and has a great trigger. I'm only considering the P9 because of the greater sight options. I'd like to think the polygonal barrel would offer a slight improvement in accuracy but it seems to be minimal from reviews I've seen? There are other benefits to polygonal rifling though.

So we are back to my original question in regards to the TP9.

Thanks,
Ralph

Ah, okay, I understand. Thanks. I focused on your interest in the P9: "I'm still leaning toward the P9 ..." (I have no experience with the TP9.) I was thinking that unless you have a compelling reason to prefer the P9 over the S9 (both being polymer compact Kahr's), then if you purchase another S9, you'll need to maintain only one set of spare parts for your two S9's. So, now that I understand that your S9 will be leaving you, never mind.

(Now, if you were to ask me about the K9 versus the P9/CW9/S9, ...)

No problem rx7sig. The only reason I am "leaning" toward the P9 at this moment is because someone would have to convince me to get the TP9. I have reservations about the larger size and weight of it. The improvement in accuracy and recoil would have to justifiable.

God Bless,

How about an ST9 to keep the nice features of the S9 (rail, slide serrations) and get a longer barrel in the mix?

I have the CT9 and it’s a sweet shooter. I think if I were getting a IWB carry gun I’d get the P9. If it were a range or OWB carry gun then the TP9. That me anyway. To me they all shoot equally well.
