I’m interested in opinions on this.

The recoil spring assembly for my CM9 came apart after about 1600 rounds. I’ve never had a malfunction with this pistol. Kahr sent a brand new RSA free of charge. Kudos to Kahr for that!

Is it okay to carry with the new RSA without having tested it at the range? I have my own opinion but am interested in hearing yours.

Seems like anytime you replace a major component on a gun, a range test is in order.

Just step out the door at midnight and pop six into the ground. You'll be back inside with the lights off before the nieghbors lookout their windows.

You got that right!

Any tool that you bet your life on, you'd better test it rigorously so you can indeed "bet your life on it."

My opinion would be, it needs some range time. For a range gun, who cares.
A carry gun on the other hand isn't the time to find out you have problems.
I'm sure, having read many of your posts, you already know the answer. Are you settling a debate?

That would work but what I would do if you can't shoot it is this, install the new recoil assembly, rack the gun 2 or 3 hundred times and leave it locked back over night and all should be good to go since your pistol was already broken in before the spring broke....Nothing beats shooting the gun but this should get you back up and working....My PM9 lost the nut on the front of the assembly but it didn't cause any problems and I didn't even notice it until I was cleaning it that night...I called Kahr and they sent me a new recoil assembly at no charge and before installing it I stood it on end and put a small drop of Loctite green retaining compound on the nut and let it sit over night and soak into the threads then installed it and did the rack slide, lock back over night and it shot just fine and this time the nut stayed on...Good luck and hopefully the ranges will reopen soon and we can all get back to shooting again....

Really I was just curious about what others think. Even though I don’t expect problems I won’t carry it until I’ve had a chance to shoot.

My local indoor range opened a couple of weeks ago. Gun stores are essential in Florida. Tentatively I plan to go on Friday the 15th to break in my unfired P365XL and test fire the CM9.

And my experience with the RSA was just like getsome’s.

I think that if Kahr made that standard operating procedure when you purchase a new one then a lot of the negative reviews/feedback would not exist. I’ve only owned a few brand new Kahrs, and only installed one new recoil assembly in a used one On all of those I’ve had good luck doing as you’ve described with the racking and leaving slide locked open. I had learned that on the first new one I ever bought after taking it to the range and having issues. Once I did that it was like a whole different gun.

Yeah, go test it out and have some fun. At least where I live, it's still easy to do and there's no reason not to.

2 mags of my carry ammo at the range today (15 rounds; 7+1 and 7) and all is well with the new RSA.

I also put 200 rounds through my previously unfired P365XL. All is well here too.

This was my first range trip to Shoot Straight since the coronavirus madness began. They have you form two lines outside, one for the range and one for the store. I waited all of three minutes before they invited me in. Every other lane in the range is closed so it’s easy to maintain distance. The biggest problem was that my mask fogged up my safety glasses which doesn’t help my crappy shooting.
