I bought a plan with USCCA the day after I was assaulted by a deranged man. I had used pepper spray and drew but did not fire. I had been putting off getting self defense insurance but that attack so scared me I decided I shouldn't put it off any longer.
Anyone else?

No insurance for me except that required by law or the bank. Mostly run by lawyers and I don't subscribe to a business that tells you what you have to pay and then can decide what they will pay if you file a claim. They also of course will make every effort to pay as little or none at all as often as possible.
I figure if I have to shoot somebody I know it will be justified and then the battle of the lawyers begins.
Nobody wins in those instances except the lawyers of course.

Better add $100,000 to that Ruger in case you are ever involved in a shooting and that includes one that is declared justified by the police. Civil court defense will take more than you can imagine.
Insurance is less than $150/yr.

George Zimmerman was missing three things that faithful night:
Pepper spray
Wrestling skills
Self defense insurance
I have 2 of the 3 and working on the third....

Actually 4 things, an ounce of common sense. Not much of that around these days.

That is BIGGEST item needed. Scurry away when ever you can and fight as last resort.

Based on the evidence, Zimmerman was doing just that.
What happened to Martin would have happened at some point anyway. It was only a matter of time until he was killed or put away into prison. At the time of the shooting, he was expelled from school for selling drugs.
How many of us here carry less lethal tools? How many of us box and wrestle?

Insurance is less than $150/yr.I'm well aware of how much things can cost when lawyers are involved............$10,000.......$100,000. Still that same turnip.:)

Sorry ladies and gents but I'm still having a hard time believeing everything that these insurance companies claim that they will do for you when your arse is in jail. I still need to be convinced..................................

I probably should get some coverage but I feel just like you do.
Where is Matt Dillon when we need him? Seems like everyone out there is like Saul from “Better call Saul.”

I have a co-worker that works with Massad Ayoob who works closely with ACLDN which is another top notch provider. This group has come to the defense of several high profile shootings. The "hitch" with them is, they have to determine it is a legit shoot. I do not find that to be objectionable, in fact that works to the benefit of its members. They are not an insurance plan, they have a reserve fund made up from member dues.
CCW safe is slightly different in that I believe they have the fund backed up by an insurance plan.
A big majority of legal shootings will still cost thousands in attorney fees.

I really enjoy reading Massad Ayoob's magazine articles in American Handgunner...One that really made me think about what I would do in a serious situation was about a CCW armed shopper in a grocery store who happened to notice a bad guy in a checkout line holding a pistol on the cashier during a hold up attempt....The good guy wasn't noticed and thought he had a good angle to take out the armed robber so he decided to be John Wayne and got down low and was able to slip up on the guy and shot him in the side of the head which should have been a perfect ending BUT the purps gun went off when he was hit and the cashier was shot in the chest and later died from her injuries and what John Wayne didn't know or expect was that the purps girlfriend was one checkout lane over with a gun to cover the exit while they left the store so while the good guy was trying to take in the whole situation that had just happened the girlfriend walked up to him and shot him in the head before running out of the store so now three people are dead over a couple hundred bucks that were in the cash drawer....For me being a CCW armed citizen is the utmost responsibility a person can have and unless my family or myself are put in a situation where it's life or death I'm not going to get involved because it's just not worth it, In this crazy world where people lawyer up and sue for anything I will stay out of court unless there's just no alternative to using deadly force and then hopefully I won't need insurance or an expert witness like Massad for help because any right minded jury will easily determine there was absolutely nothing else I could have possibly done to change the outcome...Just ask William Bryan how crazy the legal system is today...Bryan was the guy who used his cell phone to video the situation where Ahmaud Arbery was shot and killed and now he has been arrested and charged with first degree murder and he was only armed with nothing more than a phone and in this now political event Mr. Bryan will probably spend his golden years behind bars and even if his lawyer gets him off he will be financially ruined....

You never can tell how things are going to go. I don't expect my house to burn down but I keep my home owner's insurance paid up. I feel much better having self defense insurance while I work on my fitness and areas of fighting. Once the virus is over, I intend to join an MMA gym.

Excellent post getsome. There are so many situations where it appears clear but it's muddy as hell.
One has to have it all figured out before he makes a move and sometimes the wise move is no move at all.
I figure property, money, etc is just stuff, not worth playing John Wayne. People getting abused, raped, threatened, etc, that's when the John Wayne cape goes on.

I'm sure your mortgage company insist on home owners insurance as long as you have a loan. Plus some lawyer lover slips on your sidewalk, they'll own you.
