Reassembling the P40 slide

Any tips or tricks on reassembling the slide on a a P40? I took mine apart last night to clean the striker channel, and as far as I can see, it requires three hands and the vocabulary of a Russian stevedore to get it back together. I got it done, but after several tries and chasing springs around the shop. There’s gotta be a better way.

Easy! Everything you need to know with pictures. The coathanger "C" clamp and some pliers and a tiny jeweler screwdriver help. :)

Great info, thanks! That little tool would have saved me a couple hours of aggravation. Making one of those will be my next project, for sure.

Commonly referred to as the "Ripley Retractor". It does indeed make life much simpler.
