First time in a big box store since February.
The rumors are true..

They did have a few odds & ends firearms. Here’s one of the odds...

My local shops still have plenty of inventory, I don't know about the big box stores like Cabela's and such. Over east on vacation I noticed a big store there with a great gun section and huge ammo area was near empty on ammo but still had lots of guns.

In MN we have a new Scheels, (think Cabelas or BassPro). 250,000 sq ft. full of great stuff.
I went in yesterday for a walk through.

In the huge reloading department.
Lots of assorted powders in all sizes.
Large Pistol Primers
A small quantity of SNS cast bullets in 38 and .45
Presses, dies, etc. all available. Dillon equipment coming in soon.

Gun room. Large selection of most everything. Some of the more popular models were not there but if you needed a nine you could find something from a major manufacturer that would work if you were not fussy.
Shotguns and rifles in good supply.

Ammo section all available at reasonable prices.
Lots on the shelves in less popular calibers.
No 9mm
Some 38 and .45
Lots of 40
Small amounts of 22lr.

Scheels in my area has adopted the practice of not gouging the customer.

A couple weeks ago at our Academy, the ammo shelf had that much ammo, but it was all crowded in 2 or 3 shelves on one end, and the rest of the shelves had other merchandise on it, as if they didn't expect to get any ammo any time soon.

www.ammoseek.com (http://www.ammoseek.com) is out of the ammo I'd be looking for. Speer Gold Dot is over 1 dollar per round.

We visited a Scheels on a trip to Reno, it was a great store. All kinds of neat stuff and all the rifles and shotguns were out on display where they could be handled. Handguns were in metal cages in little modules but nice to be able to roll around and look at them instead of being in a long display case all in a row.
All kinds of other camping and sporting type stuff too. Great store.

Wish we had a Sheels around my parts....We have Academy Sports but their shelves are mostly bare of anything but they did have several boxes of .40 which was very much like back in 2012 after Sandy Hook when all the ammo disappeared but you could always find .40 cal...My LGS has some ammo but they have marked it up over the moon, I carry Sig V-Crown 124 grain 9mm which 6 months ago sold for $29.99 for 20 which I thought was high but today the same box of 20 rounds is being sold for $46.99 which is just stupid...They are selling 50 round boxes of Atlanta Arms 9mm range ammo for $30.00 and people are waiting in line in the parking lot for range time....Hopefully President Trump will win the election and things will go back to something like normal again but for now I'm going to hang onto my small stash and hope for the best....

We don't have Scheels or Academy around here, we got a Cabela's not too far off, most of the other big box stores like Sportco have closed up or wet on themselves and don't sell those nasty ole guns no more.

My wife just jumped ship, got recruited by Coastal Farm and Feed, not sure how far and wide they are but they are good sized and have a sporting goods section that sells guns. I'll probably follow and build stuff for them if it works out. Can you say employee discount. I'm not sure what their prices are like and what kind of inventory they'll have since they are just opening up in our town probably early October. Guess we'll find out.

I had this all typed out but it was too scary a thought!

Mail-in voting has me worried.

So glad I ordered 500 rounds each of of Hornady Critical Defense .38 SPL and Speer Gold Dot .45 ACP back in March. I seem to recall someone on here amused with that decision.....I wonder if that person is amused now.

What I am lacking is practice pistol ammo....I had shot through about 400 rounds of my chosen .38 SPL practice load when it all started and had just begun .45 ACP practice ammo testing.

In Palm Beach county the only large retailer to sell ammo is Shoot Straight. Dicks and WalMart stopped selling and Gander Mountain closed up. Shoot Straight places limitations on what you can buy and sometimes it takes a while to be waited on. All my ammo is bought over the Internet and delivered to the door.

I’ve been adding to my ammo cache during the shortage. Replenishing what I shoot plus adding some. New rule for me: one box down range, two boxes in the door.

I realize prices are relatively high but 9mm and 223 are still available. There’s a chance that Biden steals the election and Democrats control both houses of Congress. If that happens, we might fondly remember the days when we could buy ammo at all.

Don't forget you can buy direct from Federal. Expensive but available.

Not shooting much for the last year, I have plenty, but I just sent my son some .40 S&W that I was trying to sell at gun shows last year... Fiocci 170-gr FMJ, 5 boxes at $15 each and 3 boxes of Remington 165-gr Golden Saber at $15 for 25-rnd boxes. That stuff is running about 4 times as much, IF you can find it online. I weighed the cardboard ammo box when it was read to go at just under 13 pounds. I Had to pay for pick up and there was a residential fee, too, totaling $9.90 for pick up and about $24 for shipping, so my son got a good deal for $154.

I only shoot 180-grain loads for everything in .40 S&W. The 170-grain Fiocci gave me fits after I bought a case and it didn't feed worth a damn. I found that the case mouth/edge is thicker than others and a sharp edge, too, so it would catch at the top of the chamber. I fiddled with my P40 for a long time before I realized it was the bullet cases. Glocks will eat anything, though.

His wife is just starting to shoot and wants to get her CWP. He has a Glock 22 and a Colt AR that she just shot for the first time, doing very well. He may get her a Glock 43, as I recommended, and he's even thinking of an AR for her.

He said that he just ordered some "expensive" FMJ from Cheaper Than Dirt, one of the biggest scalpers out there. I'm sure that he paid $55 - $60 a box for that from CTD. Back around 2009 when .380 was SCARCE, they had some for $80-$90! I was lucky to find some while traveling through Tennessee on the way to Illinois.

Outpost Armory had a trailer sign in cardboard saying they had .380! A one hundred dollar bill got me 4 boxes of Aguila FMJ out the door with maybe just over a buck in change, after their 10% tax. I felt very lucky to get that in anticipation of my P380's arrival... after 11 months waiting. I just had to have night sights and then had to send it back because the front sight was DOA and the sights looked like a first attempt with pliers!

Wifey doesn't want to go to a gun show with me, but I'm really tempted to try to sell some of my gun show ammo while it's back a bit over what I paid during the last great shortage. I have no idea what shows are like now... those that aren't cancelled for the COVID.

Rather than get a table for $95, I may go with my little wheeled travel bag/briefcase and carry just some ammo, but I don't know. It might be good to hold onto what I have.

The Dems are really going all-out to lie, cheat, and steal the election, so it's a scary thought that they could win and put Kamala Harris into the presidency with their hand-puppet Hiden Biden.

It's too bad that the MSM and late-night comedy shows are what passes for news for too many people. The Libs have been editing the news to not show all of the riots and mayhem... just the "mostly peaceful demonstrations"! Scary.

Facebook and Twitter are "news" for a lot of people, too. We're in sad shape.

I actually saw some stuff in Academy... not ammo but work out stuff. I finally bought something to kick and punch. I really wanted the B.O.B. but it was close to $300, though I did get 10% off for military through the 11th.

One of these days I'll buy a bar and some weights, but for now I'm just using my 10 and 15 pound dumbbells and my incline bench. I don't have much room to put his stuff, so the kick bag is on a furniture mover that I drag into the bedroom while Wifey is watching HGTV or Fox News Channel. She can hear me hitting it, but that doesn't last long. I spend over an hour on my exercises and then the treadmill for up to an hour, watching streamed video or series while walking and running a little bit.

That's a picture of our living room/store room. We have a family room adjacent to the kitchen for a larger TV room. My treadmill is just to the right next to a front window. I got tired of dragging stuff up and down the stairs for garage sale and after starting gun shows this room became a catchall. My storage method resembles composting. When i need something I turn everything over and move things around until the next time. I'm always seeing stuff that I had been looking for and soon it disappears again! About 5 or so years ago, i bought curtains to hide the mess as this is to the right of the entrance as you come into the foyer... much neater, except for the overflow into the foyer now. I cleaned a lot of DVR's and other gear from the stereo cabinet in the TV room and there are 6 or more boxed nits plus some without boxes piled in there, too. I need to sell some stuff online! :p

Back to ammo. Yesterday I was in a Walmart so I checked the ammo shelf. No 9 mm and no 380, but they did have some Winchester 22lr. 550 rounds for $22 plus a few cents including tax. 4 cents a round!!! I only bought two boxes as I don't shoot much 22 and I have about 800 rounds anyway. I hope this is new stuff and just the firs of many caliburs to come in.

While in a Walmart yesterday I asked the clerk at the ammo area about handgun ammo. He said that as of 1 January this year they will no longer sell handgun ammunition! I guess that nation-wide... don't know. I did notice that I hadn't seen any on the shelf for many months.

It makes me want to go to a gun show and sell some of mine after seeing the prices at CTD... $55 to $60 a box of 50 for 9mm FMJ or .40 S&W!! I went to 4 different stores one day, not for ammo, but for something else.
