On January 15 1967 there was a football game played called “Super Bowl” 1 that I remember watching on a 14 inch Philco black and white TV....In this game between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs there was a player named Max McGee who was a washed up 2nd string receiver for Green Bay who was ready to retire after the game, his playing days were well over and he knew it....Max didn’t expect to play at all and spent the entire night before the game drinking heavily with two stewardesses and reported in at 7am to the team hotel still very drunk and hungover knowing that Packers star receiver Boyd Dowler would play but unfortunately Dowler was injured on the second play of the game and coach Lombardy yelled for McGee to go in but Max thinking he would never play had forgotten to bring his helmet to the field and had to borrow one from a teammate....A still very drunk Max McGee somehow stumbled onto the field and made history.......Max McGee’s number was called and he caught a pass one handed from Bart Starr and ran 37 yards to the end zone to score the first touchdown in Super Bowl history, he later caught another TD pass and ended up with 138 yards of offense.....Green Bay won and Bart Starr was named most valuable player and received a new Corvette but it absolutely should have been Air Force Veteran Max McGee because when you need a job done, call in the Air Force...

At his highest salary Max made 35 grand a year which was pretty good money in 67 but figure this out....Patrick Mahomes who will start as QB for Kansas City in the Super Bowl this Sunday previously signed a 10 year 503 million dollar contract which pays him $1.60 a second. $96.00 a minute. $5472.00 an hour or $137,808 a day for the next 10 years......things sure have changed

https://m.YouTube.com/watch?v=mk-O2kMA65Q He wasn't the only Packer to play drunk. It was a daily pastime for many of them up past the Favre years. Tough sob's.......play with broken bones with no cast. Play in freezing weather with short sleeves and no heaters. Had to be hung over.............................................. .......................................

Intelligence has never been a requirement to play football. Big muscles and thick skull are the majority of what is needed.

Max is still widely loved in Green Bay. The stake house with his name on it is still popular to. He died when he fell off of his roof while shoveling snow. You have to live north to understand that.

I still miss the old days where a defensive tackle could punch a big ole offensive guard in the jaw and stuff his hand up behind the face mask and stick his fingers in his eyes so as to get by him and knock the slick out of the quarterback a good 3-4 seconds after the ball was thrown and the ref might say, hey I saw that, don’t do that again or I’ll call a penalty......Today if a defensive player bumps the QB and wrinkles his Jersey or says something about his mother the ref throws a 15 yard flag for unnecessary roughness and they have to review the tape forever to see if the defensive player should be ejected......Pro football has become entertainment and is no longer a sport.....
