View Full Version : T9's -- Anybody see these things in the wild?

I have a PM9 that is a great carry pistol but, frankly, not much fun to shoot. Little and light, that which makes it good for carry makes it hard to shoot well, at least for me. I've thought more than once about purchasing a T9 for a range pistol. T9 is heavy enough to be a nice range gun and enough like the PM9, especially the trigger pull, that it should be good for practicing generally. Been a gun guy and private gun club member for a long time and can clearly identify that I've never seen anybody shooting a T9. Never seen one, new or used, in a gun store either.
You hear old motorcycle owners say, "Ride'm, Don't Hide'm." Good advice.

I have a CT9 and it’s pleasant to shoot. Very nice indeed. Actually my daughter took it and I had to take it back from her.

Hoarding is kind of an ugly word. I've only seen two in all my born days and the second one was when I had the factory find me one. I should have bought the first one but the shiny brand new one is nice. I haven't shot it much but as is often said, it's like the factory made it specially to fit my hand.

Hey lesptr -- One sees a few K9 and MK9 on GunBroker. Not sure what a fair price is for them, especially in these troubled times. The big box stores don't push Kahr pistols, at least around here. As my LGS guy says, Kahr makes a good product but hasn't been doing much with the line -- unfortunately, I think that means new bells and whistles sell, whether really needed or not.
Curious where you finally found your T9. Did you order it new or finally come across one?

A guy on another forum was getting rid of a few safe queens. I picked it up for $450 about 2 years ago. Came with 10 magazines.
I stay away from GB. Too little money and even less self control.

I have a T9. I bought it off GunBroker, because I'd never seen one in the wild. They are a very low production model, and I think one people buy one they tend to keep it.
It took me a couple of years of watching GB before I found one that was in my budget. I figure it was about four years ago, and I found one with no box and two mags for $450. Those days are probably long gone, though.

I kinda fell in to one. A buddy’s buddy was selling it. $600 with 3 mags. Just about new. It’s an amazing pistol. One of the greatest fits ever for my dainty, little (but, reasonably strong) hands.
I hope you find one. Just a neat gun.

I hope you find one as mine is my most accurate shooter. I see it several times a week when I put it on my side. Carry it when I don't carry my K9. Had mine about 5 years purchased new and have carried it often. You won't regret the purchase.

Picked mine up at Tommy Gun Warehouse after a production run that included Truglo TFX sights.
Absolutely gorgeous gun that catches the eyes of others at ranges. When they find out it’s a KAHR, the typical response is along the lines of “I didn’t know KAHR makes stuff that nice”.
So far 1,350 flawless rounds through it. If you like the KAHR platform, the T9 will not disappoint.
KAHR usually does an annual production run. Unfortunately in the current environment, there are no plans in the near future for a run.
Currently even at Tommy Gun Warehouse, the cooperate show room and now production as well, there are no T series in the display cases.
Best option at this time is the used market. If production date matters, if serial number is available, KAHR is very helpful and will give production date.
Also a quick way to ballpark if gun was fairly recently manufactured is by the box and mags. KAHR started shipping their Premium line with 3 mags and box with styrofoam lining with cut outs to accommodate the extra mag in 2014.

I have only 2! And..., I wish that I had more! Given the screwy political world we are in (magazine count above 10 is..., "evil!"), I opted to the 1911 and the Kahr T9 for my full size pistols. Quoting the esteemed Bawanna, "...it's like the factory made it specially to fit my hand."

I have a T9, born in 2003… got it by setting up a search notification for one on GB, and bought the first and only one I’ve seen there. Great handgun, but there are so few of them out there. My dealer had never seen one. I Ended up picking up a 2004 T40 from that search too, but haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. Wouldn’t mind a K40 and MK40 either if I ever find them. I have the MK9 and K9 also. Side note, the stainless versions of these pistols are not that hard to polish to a semi mirror finish…. I spent an evening on my MK9 and it looks better than an Elite from the factory.

I've got one. Had it customized. But the Cocobolo grips keep loosening up. I would love to get some Laminated Rose Wood grips for it but have not been able to find any for several years now. It shoots really hot loads very well with easily manageable recoil. My favorite load was Buffalo Bore 147gr +P. But I have switched over to Underwood's Extreme Defense 68gr +P loads. I've done some testing for a company on a certain product. When they say these loads are barrier blind, they really mean *barrier blind.* I really like the Underwood 90gr +P+ loads and once I get the grip loosening issue fixed I'll probably use that one.
My EDC is a custom MK40. I have a JPoint Red Dot milled into it and had to go with G10 grips to keep them on and tight. My EDC load for it is Underwood's 115gr Extreme Defense Loads. Testing shows that even out of this little 3" that load out performed a Remington 125gr .357mag HP out of a S&W 686 when testing some barrier material in front of a 40lb block of Ballistic Clay. .357 put a BIG dent in the clay but did not penetrate the material. My .40 Extreme Defense Loads out of my MK40 went right through the barrier and drilled a 2.5" hole from one end to the other of the 12" x 12" 40lb ballistic clay block. It also swelled up the sides all way round.

Have you tried finger nail polish and rubber O rings on the grip screws. Usually the O rings themselves work but with lots of recoil the finger nail polish might help.

That's how my search began, saw one at a gun show, guy was sympathetic and let me hold it while we chatted for a very long time. I just didn't have the loot but the search began. Took me a long time to finally bring mine home. Think I'll go out and fondle it right now.
Same thing happened with a Quigley Sharps at a gun show. Guy had a really really nice one, I held it so long he let me sit behind his table and hold it. Wanted it soooooo bad. I finally got one myself but not nearly as nice as that one. It was sweet.

I searched for years - the last one just sold on GB yesterday 12/19/21 for $850. I snagged the one prior to that for - I don't even want to tell you the price ( these guys here already know - LOL! ) AND it was a BLACK DLC T9 ( unicorn ). Every now and then you get lucky, but keep your eyes open - I won some Kahr magazines off gunbroker from a small little gun/pawn shop in some midwest town and when I called to pay via phone - I asked " By the way, would you happen to have any used KAHR's for sale in your gun case. The reply was - why yes we do, we have a K9 in Matte Stainless - used. So I said how much? The reply - $400. " So, I said text me some pics and if its nice - I'll take it. Got the pics and gave him my cc for $400. That was maybe a year ago. The gun was mint and worked - 3lb trigger -- and that's how I got my K9.

And yes - that is a K40 Covert on the bottom. Anybody got got some Pau Ferro grips for the K9 and MK9/40 they wanna sell or trade??? I may be selling off the K40 Covert - I really don't like shooting it and it really is a little too heavy to carry. I prefer my P9 Covert or P45 when I feel the need to pack a 45ACP - LOL!

Several older model H&R top breaks in .32 & .38 S&W of the Auto Ejecting or Premier series, one is hammerless. I used to collect them in 5" or 6" barrel lengths if they were in good shape, but now I focus only on collecting all the different versions of the H&R Sportsman Model 999 series, including the 199, 299 or 777 models. I only need the uber-rare Model 196 version to have the full set of barrel lengths (2", 3", 4" and 6"), finishes (blue, nickel and an unfired blue-engraved) and action types (SA/DA or SA only). The 196 Eureka is a single-action-only version of the 999 (as is the 199) but has a super-short cylinder to minimize bullet jump into the bore.
It's a sickness... A model 999 was the first handgun I ever bought.

I have a Sportsman 999, actually it's not the Sportsman, its the lower grade, not as much underlug under the barrel. I'll have to look again. Great little 22. I do love break tops. I have 2 or 3 S&W break tops that are semi decent but considered wall hangers.
I'd hunger for some pictures of them H&R's if you find the time and inclination. Much prefer the old stuff.
I've been gathering (hardly call it collecting) old Mossberg 22 rifles. They used to be pretty cheap until the word found I was looking for them and suddenly not cheap anymore. I think I have 7 or 8 and every single one is a tack driver. I think they are highly underrated.

I own a compact concealed carry handgun, the Glock 43, which has proven itself reliable and effective for self-defense. However, I must admit that shooting it for extended periods at the range isn't the most enjoyable experience. The small size and lightweight design that make it ideal for concealed carry also translate to a snappy recoil and limited round capacity.
Considering this, I've been contemplating adding a larger, more substantial firearm to my collection specifically for range sessions. The Glock 17 has caught my eye as a potential candidate. Its larger frame and increased weight could offer a smoother shooting experience, making it a more enjoyable gun for recreational use.
Despite its popularity, I've yet to come across anyone at the range or in my local gun stores wielding a Glock 17. It's somewhat surprising given its reputation as a reliable and widely-used firearm. However, I'm intrigued by the idea of a range pistol that maintains the familiarity of the Glock platform, particularly in terms of trigger pull and handling, making it a seamless transition from my everyday carry option.
As a seasoned gun enthusiast and active member of a private gun club, the absence of the Glock 17 in my shooting circles has piqued my interest even more. Perhaps it's an underrated gem waiting to be discovered for those seeking a balance between a comfortable range experience and the reliability of a well-established firearm brand.

Hi Keelsontell! Welcome to the forum from down here in mosquito haven Florida. ;)
I have three Glock 17’s. 2 were police trade-in’s, the other I got from a civilian. All 3 have Mass Driver compensators on them. My wife hated shooting 9mm before, but love’s it now that she has that Glock. And she’s become a pretty good shot now that she is not flinching due to how light the recoil and muzzle rise is. I must admit, out of the many double actions that I’ve tried over the few years that I’ve been shooting, I’m sold on it (hence having 3). Other than those compensators, which are guide rod mounted, a magwell and grip tape on each has been the only upgrades. Stock triggers. In my opinion, you should definitely get you one, or two or three.
As an added bonus, we have 3 AR9’s that take the same mags. In a shtf scenario me, wife and son will all be carrying completely interchangeable mags. Have quite a few of the 17 rounders (some bought used for cheap, as they were police trade-in’s too), a few 22 rounders and a few 33 rounders that stay with the AR’s.
Since the Mass Driver comes with it’s own recoil assembly, that gives all 3 of us the stock recoil assemblies that were removed as back up’s. Another added bonus. Those Mass Driver’s are relatively cheap on Midway.

You guys are killing me. I’m about to give my G17 to my son and now you all are singing the praises of the G17. I’ll still have my G19, 26, 43, 43x, and 48, but now I’m thinking I may need a G17 again. Guess if I do it will be a gen 5. Still have 4 more G17 mags anyway.
I hope today to see if I can mod a G17 mag for the G48. I think it will work.

If I was to get a Glock and with my wish list still long and costly it would be the 19. To me it seems the perfect size for a crossover from range to carry. We had a Glock rep at the dept some years back with a case full of all the glock models. That 19 sang to me. Many say you either love Glocks or hate them. I'm kind of in the neither category. Baby sat about 40 of them for many years, those were all 21's and I have one of them in my night stand. I just noticed a few days ago it has about an 1/8th inch of dust on it. Guess I'd best wipe it down. Also occurred to me I don't think I've every shot it???? It's not new of course it was a duty gun but it is in fine condition. Guess it might need a range visit.

Agreed on the 19’s size for carry/range crossover. I was able to score some pretty good owb holsters with an open muzzle to fit with the comp’s. They are kinda like the competition holsters, hanging outwards, with nice cant. I figure in a shtf scenario, carrying the AR’s etc, will be nice to have them so at the ready. They also have a nice thumb break button, at about where the slide release sits, just in case there’s a hand to hand scenario.

Well, the internet says that you can sand down the sides and it will fit the 43x and 48. Calipers say there is 2mm difference in width between the g17 mag and the g43x/g48 mags. The feed angle and feed lips are the same. If there is 2mm worth of plastic to spare (1mm from each side) and it works I’ll have a 17 round range mag to do an extended test, and if it works then I’ll have a 17 round spare mag for carry.
If the g17 mag works well after modification, I may try a g19 mag. If that works very well also, I just might sand down a G26 mag and do a g43x grip chop to get the thinner slide and frame of the g43x and the short grip of the g43. Only time will tell if I go that far. I’ve been measuring and pondering for about 6 months with the desire to have a g43 thin size that would take a g26 mag.
One may ask why would I do such a thing? Because I’m retired and now have time to tinker with things, and I have a 43, 43x, and 48 so I don’t mind experimenting with the 43x.

I see. You and me are alike. There's joy to be found in that tinkering stuff. More so when it works out. Messing with plastics in the past, I found that the methods to shape, blend and polish metals can be used on the plastics as well. There's a plastic polishing compound (forget the maker and the name) that I once posted about here. I used it to restore old tail light, blinker, running light lenses in hot rods. Once you get that mag close to fitting you can use that stuff with some sort of pad on a power tool to take off the last umteenth of an inch to make it fit and give it smooth finished look at the same time. Good luck with it and hope to hear of your "win".. 😁

I always try to stash cash for a target want, but usually end up buying something with the amount I have stashed that I didn't know I was stashing cash for. Does that make a lick of sense? Or spend on trinkets, parts, accessories, you know the drill.
I'm fortunate to already have a T9 stashed. Sadly it doesn't get nearly enough exercise but it's a joy to behold in the hand. I really should be thinning the herd but it's love and love demands an answer which means a bigger herd.

My T9 is my 9mm of choice. It’s my 007 gun, my range gun, my casket gun. It waits its turn to get used, but it’s the proverbial “it” for me.
Because I've become mighty fond of the Officer sized 1911s of late, this picture shows one of the primary reasons why I'd like to have a T9. Kahr on top, Ruger SR1911 Officer underneath

DAO,
I always compared the K9 to officer size, and T9 to Commander, guess I was wrong. But..others have mentioned using 1911 holsters for the T9, who knows.
handgunhero.com allows you to compare guns.
You're not far off!

One other comp. These two compare in size, weight, capacity and width. Some shared DNA in there somewhere.

I've always had the hots for a P7M8.
Me too. Got to hold a few, never got to shoot one.

That must be why I have been liking the G48 with either 10 or 15 rounds in the mag. Really thin too.

I came very close to buying a T9 Elite back in the day
Had no idea they would practically disappear.
Bought a NIB MK40 Elite for concealed carry thinking, I'll get that T9 later.
That was a mistake.
But I still have the MK40 Elite

It took me just about 5 years to finely find a T9 over the 4th of July weekend. It appears that the previous owner may have bought it and never fired it. It came with everything that it would come with from the factory.
