Works in many cases, but I tried using a bow saw to quietly take down oak trees over the weekends . . . got a couple trees in, and, abandoning any hope of surreptition, fetched my chain saw. Turned out the neighbors didn't care, apparently, 'cause no one reported me. Don't remember how many it was, but our property needed a lot of thinning. Lots of tree huggers at the city offices back then.
Yall need a permit to cut down a tree? I think we do if we're like clearing acreage but not a few trees. Least ways I don't think we do.

Even dead/dying trees are protected, so it's surprising to me that no one's sued the city on an injury claim after having been denied or delayed a permit to remove an unstable tree.
To buy the permit, we've also got to gain approval from our neighbors and agree to replace the cut-down tree with an approved replacement. If we're working around a mature, native "protected" tree, then we have to run chain link around the outer perimeter of the bough-line, and place a bond in an escrow account against damage to the tree. Tens of thousands when we replaced a 180 foot sewer line that ran beneath a line of trees that, incidentally, were "volunteers" that had grown in the wake of a line of prune trees (I think the root stock was plum, so I speculate that the root stock took over as the prune trees aged-out, & the critters were attracted to the plums and seeded the oaks).
Why the govmnt has the power to "permit" us to do what we want on our property? . . . creeping boundaries, I guess. How do you go broke? slowly & gradually, then all at once. How do you lose your freedom? Perhaps the same way.
All trees are protected, regardless of species, if they have a trunk diameter of 10 inches or more (31inches in circumference measured from 4.5 feet above the ground).
Additionally, the following native trees are also protected if they have a diameter of 6 inches or more

We have similarly draconian tree laws here in Jacksonville, Fla, with the results being:
1. people ignore the law and cut them anyway
2. developers still clear cut for new houses, then shell out big bucks to comply with the tree laws, and just pass the cost along to the homeowners
3. Trees get old and diseased, shed limbs all over, or fall down, creating hazards.

Dunno that anyone would need to use all three guesses on this answer: California
We're zoned minimum 2 acres, I believe, so it's not as though we're cutting down signature trees in a planned, landscaped hoa, or some such.
We're in the hilly valley of a coastal range, so homeowners aren't much affected by what happens on neighbors' properties, either.
It's pretty pricey to live here - you'd think that tariff would include a bit of "leave me alone", but it seems the opposite.

I should have guessed. I suspect JohnR nailed it when he said most just ignored the law. I know I would.

If you are unlucky enough to live in Commiefornia and have some trees that need to go forget about a chainsaw and set the fokers on fire and blame it all on Global Warming, Climate Change and Donald Trump and all will be forgiven, no harm, no foul and you might even get a check in the mail from Uncle Joe……

I met a guy some years back with an amazing lakefront property. Even though there were many houses around the lake, his was the only one with cleared land from the house all the way to the shore. He said when he built, they told him he could not clear the trees. He said, “what if I do”? They told him he’d be fined $5k per tree. He had them all downed and trucked out in one weekend. Now, his house is worth over a half mil more than any other house around, according to him. Sounds like a pretty solid investment he made there!!!

I don't live in the city limits, so we just cut the damn things down if they need cuttin' down.
Also don't have any issue with perforating things that need perforating.
I just got through a three week bout of the covid. It didn't kill me, but don't seem to have made me stronger .... but it sure pissed me off. Get off my lawn ....

Dang mr. sur, sorry you got the rona crud and hope you are feeling better………I had both shots back in March/April and thought I was in the clear but our church requires staff members to get tested monthly and somehow in August I came up positive…..I never felt bad, had a fever or anything but for the last three weeks I’ve stayed away from everyone……During my away time I’ve found that Miller Highlife is the cure for Covid-19 and I highly recommend it for it’s incredible healing properties……

So you got the shot but got it anyhow but didn't even know you had it?
One more reason I'm not getting the shot, the virus is apparently real, the shot is a money maker and a means of taking control for those we definitely don't want in control.

Crazy ain’t it……Either the shots kept me out of the hospital or I didn’t get a big virus load, not sure no idea, I feel just fine…..I do think it’s getting to be about control…..My 30 year old son had Covid last year and fully recovered after a couple weeks and never got the vaccine thinking he had natural immunity but now his employer is mandating that everyone that wants to stay on the payroll WILL be vaccinated by October 1st so he’s getting it this week……..This ain’t Merica no more

Your son should look for a new job. Most all the hospitals around here are mandating the shot but so many of the nurses are refusing that they are back peddling so they won't be hugely understaffed. If everyone said no, things would lean back the other way.
Really sad when they threaten your job if you don't join the rest of the sheep getting the shot.
They learned at the PD that all they had to do was add the word mandatory and they knew bawanna would be a now show. Maybe I've reached the grumpy stage? I find myself less and less tolerant of people telling me what to do, even the wife for what absolutely zero difference that would make.
I better go find me one of them Jeepster Growlers and a chill pill I reckon.

The only thing they are positive about is that they aren’t sure about anything…..The main reason I got the shot was so I could ditch the stupid mask but now they say you still need a mask……Now in Israel tests are showing that people who get the 3rd booster shot can still test positive so this crap isn’t going away anytime soon…..

Same thing happening at my work. Between that and our California CEO telling me I’m an oppressive white heterosexual Christian, I’m taking my little pension and retiring Nov. 15. Lots of people doing the same as me too. There’s other jobs out there if I decide to go back to work.

Maybe a good time to look for another job in another state yqtszhj? I'm seriously pondering getting out of Washington, way too much like California up here and the piece of excrement governor keeps getting reelected. Unprecedented 3rd term. When he was elected I actually felt sorry for the guy, didn't figure he stood a snow ball chance and would be embarrassing, damned if he didn't win.
Course while I didn't feel sorry for him, I never figured Biden as anything but an also ran and we all know how that turned out.
I have at least 6 friends, mostly old coworkers who are moving or already moved to Texas. Place has to be crazy with the influx of folks seeking freedom. Hope they don't screw it up.
I'm just concerned it's too late for me, still pondering Montana, Wyoming, and possibly Texas since I already got several hats.

Austin area real estate prices have gone crazy these last 18 months.
The house 3 doors down from my was valued at $300k in early 2020. It just sold for $520k.
Buyers in new developments are having to bid against a dozen or more others just to snag a lot, then after the house has been under construction, the final price could be 15% above the original estimate.

My state is all right at this time (Alabama) just my companies CEO is from California (but he lives in Dallas so watch out). We’ve been here 18 years. People don’t want to move here because they think we’re stupid. I’m good with letting folks think that so they stay away. We like guns here too and stuff is relatively cheap.

I'd be fine with Alabama or even Arkansas although I have no sisters or cousins I'd like to marry. I certainly have the dental work to fit right in.
That's the trouble with any state that is right thinking regarding guns and taxes and government. Everybody want's to move there and the more people coming in the higher percentage of idiots and morons that want to make it like California or now Washington and Oregon ain't a bit better now days neither.

I got the shot because if I get the covid I want it to be mild. Most people with the vaccine that get it only seem to know they got it because they had a test. 94% hospitalization for unvaccinated and 6% for vaccinated. I choose to be a sheep this time. To each his own.
