I wouldn't mind one of those in the park behind my house. There's a "cat colony" there where several in the neighborhood feed them all day long. The cats at one time were pooping in my yard and that gets to stinking. They don't all bury their deeds and there's almost a parade all day with them peeing on the shrubs around the front door!
I used to see large brown rats running along the fence like that snake is on, though, but not for many years. We don't usually see any live mice or rats, though, but the cats do bother everything and worry the beneficial snakes. Once in a while they might leave a dead rat on the driveway... a gift, I guess! :D

I saw an interview with Tokyo star olympic gymnast Simone Biles who said that she may try and compete in the singles balance beam competition tomorrow…..She said that she was still dealing with her mental state and stress issues but would try and do her best in the singles competition……While I respect her hard work and ability to jump, twist, flip and land on her feet after a vault landing and do tricks on a balance beam and all but somebody really needs to take young Simone aside and explain to her that real stress is being on a landing craft in rough seas heading towards a beach just praying to live through the day, then seeing the door open and the first half of your squad cut to pieces and having to jump into 12 foot deep water wearing full combat gear trying not to drown so you can somehow make it to the beach and stay alive to make a new plan to get through the day…….Sorry Simone but that’s real deal stress so suck it up and do your job girl because many brave young men died so that there would still be an America for you to represent our Country and Flag………

She's probably under more stress than I was trying to get to a bunker before a rocket or mortar landed on my head... or years later worried about catching a wingtip as we rolled almost 90 degrees from the wake turbulence of #1 and #2 in a 3-ship MITO of B-52D's on takeoff... peacetime 15 second interval, but Minimum Interval TakeOff... or guiding the pilot of your B-52 down into bad weather and having second thoughts after the turbulence encountered... all peacetime stress... the flying, anyhow. :D

My mom woulda stayed at 180 even while driving since she anyway had eyes in the back of her head. As it is, I wish I'd inherited the range of motion she had in her right shoulder joint. There was no safe space in the back seat of her car. We didn't have any seat belts, so I developed some good duck n dodge reflexes that have served me well in the corporate world.
That picture reminds me of how rarely I see folks wearing those foamy cervical collar things nowadays, whereas it wasn't uncommon when I was a boy.
I think I'll generation-gap myself a bit more from my kids by mentioning the cervical collar thing, as my mom did with us when reminiscing about the many local men in her youth with broken right forearms from incorrectly crank-starting their cars . . .

Guy comes home from work Friday night and his wife is gone along with his car but he doesn’t think much of it until the next day and she still wasn’t home so he figures she went to her mothers house where cell coverage was bad so he drinks a 6 pack watching the ball game and goes to bed……He wakes up Sunday at noon and she still wasn’t home so he starts to get worried……Sunday evening comes around so he figures he should call the cops and make a missing person report….

The Police come out to take the report asking for information about his wife like age, height, weight and such so the guy says she is 55 or maybe 56 years old, can’t remember, medium height 5’6 or so maybe 150 lbs with medium brown hair and brown eyes…….The cop says ok, can you describe the vehicle she might be driving? Guy says I sure can, it’s a Midnight Blue 1968 Shelby GT 500 KR with a .30 over 428 Cobra Jet, Roush super charged 675 horse motor backed up with a Ford Racing 6 speed Tremec transmission and a Currie 9 inch 355 posi 4 link coil over rear axle with American Racing 18” wheels on the front and 20” rears…….The cop says, don’t worry sir we will put out an APB and find her and bring her home, guy says, thank you officer, that car means the world to me……

The Horse, The Chicken and a Harley
On the farm lived a chicken and a horse, both of whom loved to play together.

One day the two were playing, when the horse fell into a bog and began to sink.

Scared for his life, the horse whinnied for the chicken to go get the farmer for help!

Off the chicken ran, back to the farm. Arriving at the farm, he searched and searched for the farmer, but to no avail, for he had gone to town with the only tractor. Running around, the chicken spied the farmer's new Harley.

Finding the keys in the ignition, the chicken sped off with a length of rope hoping he still had time to save his friend's life.

Back at the bog, the horse was surprised, but happy, to see the chicken arrive on the shiny Harley, and he managed to get a hold of the loop of rope the chicken tossed to him.

After tying the other end to the rear bumper of the farmer's bike, the chicken then drove slowly forward and, with the aid of the powerful bike, rescued the horse!

Happy and proud, the chicken rode the Harley back to the farmhouse, and the farmer was none the wiser when he returned. The friendship between the two animals was cemented: Best Buddies, Best Pals.

A few weeks later, the chicken fell into a mud pit, and soon, he too, began to sink and cried out to the horse to save his life!

The horse thought a moment, walked over, and straddled the large puddle.

Looking underneath, he told the chicken to grab his hangy-down thingy and he would then lift him out of the pit.

The chicken got a good grip, and the horse pulled him up and out, saving his life.

The moral of the story? (Yep, you betcha, there's a moral!)

'When you're hung like a horse, you don't need a Harley to pick up chicks'

Stupid question, excellent answer!

For those that don't know him, Major General Peter Cosgrove is an Australian.
General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio.
Read his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children.
Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you have to love this!
This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.
This is a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove
who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military Headquarters.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The broadcast went silent for 46 seconds and when it returned, the interview was over.
I would pay money to have seen her face.

Hillary Clinton pays a visit to an elementary school for a 6th grade question and answer session…..The first couple of kids ask very basic questions about what it was like to live in the White House and what the food was like and such until little Timmy raises his hand so Hillary says yes sir, what’s your question?……..Timmy stands up and says, Mrs. Clinton, why were you allowed to have your own email server and why didn’t you do anything to help those soldiers in Benghazi and what really happened to Vince Foster and last, during your term as Secretary of State how much money did you and Bill skim from the Clinton Foundation?…….Right then the bell for lunch rang and Hillary said, ok now y’all go on to lunch and I’ll be glad to answer all those questions when you come back…..

The class comes back from lunch and Hillary says, now who has a question?………..Andy raises his hand, stands up, looks all around and asks, where’s Timmy?

I remember those....I worked as a tech at Scott Chrysler Plymouth back in Concord Mass., back then. The 2 Superbirds they had, they couldn't sell because people thought they were to BIZARRE. Owner had our body shop remove nose and wing to make them into REGULAR Roadrunners in order to sell them. They finally sold one and a guy traded in his 1964 Chrysler 300K. I was able to buy the Chrysler and had a blast with it. It had the 413 Ramcharger engine in it. I had that car until I moved to Minnesota in 1974. Here are pictures of one like mine.

Wow that’s way cool Jeep, that’s back when Detroit made real steel cars……Can you imagine buying a Superbird for $4095.00 unreal that today they are easy 6 figure cars and you are right, they didn’t sell very well at all……There almost wasn’t a Plymouth Superbird and there is one man to thank for them and that’s Richard Petty who was under contract to drive Plymouth Road Runners at the time and when he saw what an advantage the new aero/wing Dodge Charger Daytona had over everyone else he asked Plymouth to either let him have a Dodge or convert his Road Runner to a wing car so he could compete but Chrysler said no so Petty said fine I’m going over to Ford which he did for one season and had good success…..Chrysler President Lynn Townsend decided they had to get Petty back and ordered Plymouth to send 500 Road Runners to Creative Services which was the outside company that added the nose cone and rear wing so Richard Petty finally got his NASCAR Plymouth Superbird and once again started winning races in a Plymouth………If you look at a stock Charger Daytona or Superbird that hasn’t been restored it’s easy to see that Creative Services didn’t do a very good job installing the nose cones and none of them fit very well at all and for a long time people thought the rear wing had a ton of NASA wind tunnel engineering as far as the height went but later it came out that the wing height was just tall enough to let the trunk open fully…..

I know we have a rule about politics here but this is a pretty good video of what we as Americans must now deal with……When Joe Biden was elected President back in January our previous President Trump left office with a Covid Vaccine ready to go to protect us from the China Virus, there was also a plan to secure the border with Mexico to prevent a massive influx of illegal aliens infected with the Covid virus and the country was well on it’s way to energy independence from the Middle East with the Keystone pipeline and new drilling exploration to find the oil we need to keep our economy running…...Well with Joe Biden in the pilots seat after a short 8 months we seem to be headed towards a smoking hole…..

a CNN reporter walks into a neighborhood tavern and is about to order a drink when he sees a guy at the end of the bar wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat. It didn't take an Einstein to know the guy was a Donald Trump supporter.

the CNN guy shouts over to the bartender, loudly enough that everyone in the bar could hear, "drinks for everyone in here, bartender, except for that Trump supporter."

after the drinks were handed out the Trump guy gives the CNN guy a big smile, waves at him and says, in an equally loud voice, "thank you!"

this infuriates the CNN reporter. So he once again loudly orders drinks for everyone except the guy wearing the Trump hat. As before, this doesn't seem to bother the trump guy. He just continues to smile and again yells, "thank you!"

so the CNN guy again loudly orders drinks for everyone except the Trump guy. And again the Trump guy just smiles and yells back, "thank you!"

at that point the aggravated CNN reporter asks the bartender, "what the hell is the matter with that Trump supporter? I've ordered three rounds of drinks for everyone in the bar but him and all the silly ass does is smile and thank me. Is he nuts?"

"nope," replies the bartender. "he owns the place."

It’s just so hard to find good people to work anymore…..A guy walks in a Starbucks to order a Vanilla Latte so the barista says ok and what is your name please, he says it’s Marc with a C so Laquanda writes his name on the cup, makes the latte and takes his money then hands him his coffee and it was then Marc looks at the cup and found out that his name is really Cark……

Years ago, during the Vietnam war, a young Navy Pilot was injured while ejecting from his A-4 Skyhawk due to engine failure during a catapult shot from the carrier. Due to the heroics of the rescue helicopter crew and the ship's hospital staff, his only permanent injury was the loss of one ear.
Since he wasn't physically impaired, he remained on flight status and eventually became an Admiral. However, during his career, he was always sensitive about his appearance.
One day the Admiral was interviewing two Navy Master Chiefs and a Marine Sergeant Major for his personal staff.
The first Master Chief was a Surface Navy type and it was a great interview. At the end of the interview, the Admiral asked him, "Do you notice anything different about me?"
The Master Chief answered, "Why, yes, Admiral. I couldn't help but notice that you are missing your starboard ear, so I don't know whether this impacts your hearing on that side." The Admiral got very angry at this lack of tact and threw him out of his office.
The next candidate, an Aviation Master Chief, when asked this same question, answered, "Well yes, Sir, you seem to be short one ear."
The Admiral threw him out as well.
The third interview was with the Marine Sergeant Major. He was articulate, extremely sharp, and seemed to know more than the two Navy Master Chiefs put together. The Admiral wanted this guy but went ahead with the same question. "Do you notice anything different about me?"
To his surprise, the Sergeant Major said, "Yes Sir. You wear contact lenses."
The Admiral was impressed and thought to himself, what an incredibly tactful Marine. "And how would you know that?" the Admiral asked.
The Sergeant Major replied: "Well, sir, it's pretty hard to wear glasses with only one frickin' ear.

I really, truly dislike Joe, But... Remember the last war the U.S. won was WW2. We couldn't beat North Korea (they had China help) and settled on a parallel to get out. We got beat in Vietnam (largely due to China's help). First Iraq War was a walk with overwhelming force and we avoided a serious war getting out with good mission more like an action. Second one was a mistake and went nowhere. Didn't accomplish anything.
So how did we win WW2? US had full support of people. Auto factories became bomber factories. Rosie the reveter, aluminum scrap recycling, gas rationing, and more. Only thing since is 9/11. My uncle was in the field in Korea, didn't give a darn why he was there, just wanted to get warm. I was kinda involved with Nam (from Phillipines), never bought the domino stuff. Never understood the years lost stalling a peace treaty. Sick at the "cease fire" followed by Siagon evac tragedy. Now seeing it in yet another meaningless war happening all over again.
Sorry, but I've concluded the purpose of most wars boils down to population control. To late to care if I'm right or not. Yes I'm a flag waving, full blooded Regan andTrump loving American. Complete with tall flag pole in front yard for several decades. I love the real America and hate whats happening. That's why I unplugged from news and such. I'm pulling out again, still read the funny ones but pass on politics.

OldLincoln, you don't post near often enough but when you do it's meaningful. I think we have to remember that it ain't just Joe (I thought you liked me), sure it's partly him but mostly it's the people pulling his strings. I truly think he is pretty clueless and the folks that helped him rob the election and put him in place are calling the shots, none of them any good.
The big question is what does the average guy like you and me do to fix it. We know what needs to happen and Trump was working on it, we need to drain the swamp and put America first again.
Sadly there seems to be a majority of snow flakes that love electing losers. I can't believe how many folks are in government that wear sheets on their heads. You can't call em towel heads no more, upsets the snow flakes.

IS SEX ACTUALLY CONSIDERED WORK:?

A U.S. Navy Captain was about to start the morning briefing to his staff. While waiting for the coffee machine to finish its brewing, the Captain decided to pose a question to all assembled.

He explained that his wife had been a bit frisky the night before and he failed to get his usual amount of sound sleep. He posed the question of just how much of sex was "work" and how much of it was "pleasure?" A CDR chimed in with 75-25% in favor of work.

A JG said it was 50-50%. An LT responded with 25-75% in favor of pleasure , depending upon his state of inebriation at the time.

There being no consensus, the Captain turned to the SN who was in charge of making the coffee. What was HIS opinion?

Without any hesitation, the young SN responded, "Sir, it has to be 100% pleasure."

The Captain was surprised and, as you might guess, asked why.

"Well, sir, if there was any work involved, the officers would have me doing it for them."

The room fell silent.

God Bless the enlisted man.

[QUOTE=King Rat;425494]How old were you when you started shooting?

Started with a pellet gun when I was 14. It was a break down and it was crazy powerful. I’d shoot qual and it would go right through them. When I was 16 a bum living by the rr tracks sold me a S&W .22 revolver for $100. Wish I still had it because I have never seen another one. Looked like a clown gun, because the barrel was 8” long. Again, I’ve never seen another one, so it would prolly be quite a collectors piece these days. A few months later, one of his bum buddies sold me a top break .32. I think it was an H&R. I forget where or how I got hold of it, but I had quite a bit of ammo for it. Me, my brother and friends shot the snot out of it. In high school, there was a small shooting range back behind the bowling alley. I’d go there after school and clean up, sweep the range, etc. The owner would then let me select any used gun he had under glass and he would give me a target and a box of ammo. Sadly, that place, and even the bowling alley, are long gone.

The cannibal called the waiter over and asked, "Why such a high price for the Politicians?"

The cook replied, "Have you ever tried to clean one? They're so full of sh!t, it takes all morning."

My buddy works for the fire marshall's office, doing inspections for occupancy. It sickens me when he tells me what they do to people. Folks will spend their money getting a space all set to open, he comes in... “Oh, you need a sprinkler system”, which cost tens of thousands of dollars. Or, like you say, other alterations that cost tens of thousands. At no point in time when these folks initiate starting the business (get a license, etc.) does anyone give them even an inkling of a clue as to what kind of things will be required to get the certificate of occupancy. It’s scam city, they know it and they revel in it. Scum of the earth. But, scum of the earth seems to abound these days.
Sounds exactly like here. They swagger in, threaten people with fines or even jail over things as petty as extension cords, then I’m supposed to help them fix things. They red tag the door and force them to close till the code issues are fixed.

Those local governments are full of corruption. About 8 years ago I was responsible for a telecommunications network building for the central part of the state I live in when the local city fire inspector rang the bell and wanted to inspect our system in the building. Well we always try to accommodate and give walkthroughs to the police and fire department because of the nature of what we do we kinda depend on each other. Well this inspector proceeded to tell me I was out of compliance because I didn’t have a “local company’s” certification on my system. I told the guy we have a company that certifies all our offices in the state and our standards are more stringent than the city codes. He said he wasn’t sure about it and needed to call the chief inspector. I said OK. Well that joker was there in about 90 seconds so he must have been eating a doughnut in the truck. The guy was so big you could tell he hadn’t climbed a fire ladder in years. Well this “chief” told me they were going to write us up for being out of compliance and if we didn’t comply within 10 days they would fine my company $500 dollars a day until we were in compliance. Well I could tell he just wanted to be a butt and somebody was getting kickbacks from this local company that did certifications. So I told this chief “so what happens when I don’t comply or pay the fines.” He said they wouldn’t respond to a fire if one occurred. I told him you just go ahead and do that and I promise you that you’ll be on the national news and then you’ll get to do some jail time for misconduct by roasting weenies on the embers of my burning building.

Well he got PO’ed and walked out, took his little minion with him, and I never heard anything else about it. Sad thing is that a small business can’t get away with what I told them. They drove my local little church out of town that had been there 10 years for the sprinkler system thing. We didn’t need a sprinkler system, there were only 3 rooms and so many exits no one would ever get trapped inside anyway and that building had been there 30+ years.

I had the building inspector trespassed from my property when I did a small addition to my house many years back. I tried to do it without a permit, honestly didn't think it needed one since it was less than 300 sq ft. He was such an arse. Knocked on our door when I wasn't home and stared at my wife who was like what? He said do you know who I am. She didn't have a clue.

They sent out a different guy and he was great, no issues at all. Even the coworkers at the building dept didn't like him.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The gun that killed American Wild West outlaw Billy the Kid sold for more than $6 million at auction on Friday in Los Angeles, more than double the pre-sale estimate.

Bonhams auctioneers said the Colt single-action revolver that Sheriff Pat Garrett used to take down Billy the Kid in 1881 was bought over the phone by a person who wished to remain anonymous.

Bonhams, which described the gun as "the most iconic treasure of early Western history," said the $6.03 million price was a world record for any firearm. It had been expected to fetch between $2 million and $3 million.

Billy the Kid was a wanted man in Arizona and New Mexico, killing eight men. After a monthslong pursuit, Garrett tracked him down to a ranch in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, and shot and killed him on July 14, 1881. Billy the Kid was 21 years old.

The story of the 19th-century outlaw has been chronicled in pop culture for almost 100 years, including in movies such as "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" and "Young Guns."

The gun came from the collection of Texas couple Jim and Theresa Earle, who amassed Western firearms and other artifacts for some 50 years. Jim Earle died in 2019.

In my dreams! I bid 12 million but they saw who the bid was from and they just laughed, couldn't pull off 1200.

What a piece to own though. Hell I'd probably pay a grand just to hold it for a few minutes, and let some of the history rub off on me. That is of course if I had a grand.

I drove one of those for a couple years. I remember a sudden, unplanned lane change on the expressway due to a stiff cross wind. Never even twitched the steering wheel.

In High School I wouldn't be caught in one of these, but several friends had them. One actually became a VW mechanic. Shortly out of school I gave in and drove one, kind of changed my ways. Fastest car I ever owned was a 68 bug. All built up. At one time it had a 4 barrel Holley on it, but it ran it's best on 2 2 barrel Webers. Turned in the 12's at the drag strip and ruined a lot of kids dreams on the street with their cougars and even a Vette one time. Awwww memories.

My buddy did give me a little hint though, and this may help you some time... He said the inspectors use a little hand held device to pull up codes, and that the data fed to them are typically way out of date, or that they often cross reference the rules with one another. Often times, the code/law referenced is incorrect, sometimes only in a small detail, and that the inspector would not know. He trains new inspectors and says this happens all day long.
He said sometimes they come across people who have done research and call bs on the inspector. If an inspector ever tries to flag or fine that a supervisor should be asked for as you want confirmation that the violation the inspector is claiming is a legitimate code/rule and that it is indeed still as the inspector sees it. I would go further and ask to see it in writing with proof as to which rule is being broken and that there have been no updates or changes.

I gave up asking inspectors to cite chapter and verse. As for “buying a permit later,” that might work if all the construction was done to code. It’s often not.

Don’t laugh. I worked for a nursing home that was mostly low income residents with substance abuse and mental problems. The police would frequently return one of our residents in a rather drunken state. One time they brought him back drunk when they clocked him at 45 mph going down hill…..in his wheel chair.

True. But just like laws some of which are senseless it's the same with codes. I always take pictures of anything that gets buried such as rebar in a foundation etc. That was the primary issue with the inspector I had to have trespassed. Seems each inspector has a piece they are really smart on, his happened to be rebar. He was just broken hearted that he didn't get to inspect my rebar, but I had good pictures. They made it so hard I told them forget it, I'll just tear it down. Their response was oh you'll need a demolition permit. Told them to pound sand.

The thing that chaffes my backside about building inspection especially residential is you build, they inspect, say it's ok and the building falls down or burns or whatever, the building department take no responsibility.

Commercial buildings I can sure see the need for vigorous inspections and I went through a lot in my building days. But just like rangemasters there are good inspectors and ones that just want to make life difficult. They should be there to help make it right, not make life a pain.

I bought a house in Gwinnett County Ga. back in 1998 it was 18 years old and the whole neighborhood was on a septic system…..Within 2 years almost everyone on the street started having septic tank problems…..The guy two doors up bought his house new in the subdivision and saw the county inspector doing drive by inspections of the work and sign off on it because there was so much construction going on at the time…..

Well after a week long rain everyone on the street started to have septic problems……I called a plumbing company and he looked at the drain field blueprint plot and said it shows 1800 feet of drain field which should have been more than enough for a 3 bedroom house but after digging up my backyard they found 6 drain field lines 35 feet long which means the county inspector was either paid off or was just plain lazy and signed off on crap work that ended up costing me 8 thousand dollars and a destroyed yard to fix……..I lost a lot of respect for county building inspectors after that…….Although my plumbing contractor was very happy and thanked me for finding him a summers worth of work…….

Works in many cases, but I tried using a bow saw to quietly take down oak trees over the weekends . . . got a couple trees in, and, abandoning any hope of surreptition, fetched my chain saw. Turned out the neighbors didn't care, apparently, 'cause no one reported me. Don't remember how many it was, but our property needed a lot of thinning. Lots of tree huggers at the city offices back then.

I can write an affidavit saying a building meets code. No one’s ever offered me enough to do it (i.e. enough to retire by 5pm today). I’d probably have trouble sleeping if I did that, wondering if the building was going to collapse or something.
