The Tie.........A fleeing Taliban terrorist, desperate for water, was plodding through the Afghan desert when he saw something far off in the distance.Hoping to find water, he hurried toward the mirage, only to find a very frail little old Jewish man standing at a small makeshift display rack - selling ties.

The Taliban terrorist asked, "Do you have water?"

The Jewish man replied, "I have no water. Would you like to buy a tie? They are only $5."

The Taliban shouted hysterically, "Idiot Infidel! I do not need such an over-priced western adornment. I spit on your ties. I need water!”

"Sorry, I have none, just ties - pure silk, and only $5."

"Pahh! A curse on your ties! I should wrap one around your scrawny little neck and choke the life out of you but . . . I must conserve my energy and find water!"

"Okay," said the little old Jewish man. “It does not matter that you do not want to buy a tie from me, or that you hate me, threaten my life, and call me infidel. I will show you that I am bigger than any of that. If you continue over that hill to the east for about two miles, you will find a restaurant. It has the finest food and all the ice-cold water you need. Go In Peace."

Cursing him again, the desperate Taliban staggered away, over the hill.

Several hours later, he crawled back, almost dead, and gasped, "They won't let me in without a tie!”

Charles, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their "Older Person Friendly" policies.

One day the boss called him into the office for a talk. "Charles, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here, but your being late so often is quite bothersome."

"Yes sir, I know, and I am working on it."

"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear.”

“Yes sir, I understand your concern and I’ll try harder.”

Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, “It's odd though you're coming in late. I know you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning so late and so often?"

The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled. He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin,
"They usually saluted and said:
"Good morning General, can I get your coffee sir?"

Well I tried but if you go to YouTube cat falling from stadium you can see it…...A stray cat was hanging by one paw from the upper deck in the Miami football stadium and a couple on the lower deck saw him beginning to fall and caught him in their American Flag they had displayed on the 9-11 anniversary and saved the cats life…….I tried to post it but I didn’t have much luck probably because they caught the cat in an American Flag……I bet if it had been a Rainbow flag it would have worked, anyway sorry about not getting it to post but it is pretty cool the couple with their flag was in just the right place and time to give that cat one more life…..Sorry I’m old and not so computer savvy and the harder I try to figure it out the more it aggravates me so I reckon it must be time for this old timer to ride off from this crazy online interweb world that I don’t understand and find something better to do so as Paul Harvey used to say at the end of his daily broadcast, Good day………..

When I was maybe 5 or 6 my dad took my 2 older brothers there. I was too little according to him. Said he’d take me there one day, but it never happened. I was po’d for years! No doubt! It was a bit creepy reading about the place. My imagination went wild thinking about what it would have been like back then. Some real tough people, surviving in such a place. If the rough life didn’t get you, going into town and being unlucky enough to be set upon by some drunk guy with a gun might!

Watch the “Deadwood” series to see how things must have really been back then…….That was a great and very under rated TV series that showed the gritty side of how things were in a gold mining boom town at that time and unfortunately for them many a snake oil salesmen ended up down in Mr. Wu’s hog pen which made the pigs very fat and happy………

She actually shot her little Cricket 22 a few weeks ago when they were over at their property in Montana. This is my daughters daughter and my oldest son bought the Cricket for her. He brought it to the hospital the day she was born.
I told him I thought she was a tad young and probably didn't care much about much of anything but breathing and breast at this point.

I have a couple Chipmunks left for the grandson but we'll wait a bit on those. He's a great kid but kind of a wild child.

She actually loves sweeping and vacuuming the shop, always ask if she can. Same thing in my room. She dust and vacuums in there too and it usually needs it badly.

I remember around 1970 very precisely skinning a squirrel when I was still living with my folks. I did near razor cuts around the eyes and all the details, including even the tail, then took that particular squirrel into the house to wash it down in the kitchen sink. I guess I went to take a leak or something while the squirrel was still in the sink soaking with a bit of water when my Mom came in from work. I never thought she could make the sounds that came out of her .....

Squirrels are fine if they stay out in the yard or up in a tree where they belong but when they get in your attic and do 2 grand worth of damage chewing up electrical wiring and even attack your car things change…..A squirrel chewed through a plastic fuel line on my pickup which cost me 400 bucks to have repaired so it’s game on baby……

Ran into another critter today when I went out to get the paper this morning and came real close to a Coyote standing in the driveway…..I had my .38 in my pocket but backed up to the door when he didn’t run off because he was probably rabid being out at that time of day since they are mostly nocturnal…….He eventually ran off down the middle of the street which was also odd because they mostly head towards the woods…. We have a real problem with Coyotes and Foxes here and many are rabid and you never know when you will run into one…….

I shot a young coyote a couple of weeks back with my pellet gun when he had the gall to sit 30' off my back deck and scatch himself, all while my Shepherds were barking like fools from inside the house. I believe the same one was back yesterday, this time in the front yard. I shot at him but missed as he was on the run and only had time for a snap shot. As far as coyotes go this one is right handsome, with a nearly silver coat. I've never seen one so light before. If he's ever around when I have something more powerful that I can lay hand to quickly I might just have a nice little comforter for the couch. One of my Shepherds is in heat and this might be why he came back after getting plugged the first time. So maybe I'll get another chance.

This one looked sickly and it’s unusual to see them out at 10:00 in the morning…..Coyotes are somewhat new to Georgia in the last 20 years or so but now they are everywhere and have become very adapt at living in subdivisions along with white tail deer which seem to be able to survive almost anywhere….It’s not their fault because they have been forced to live closer to humans but deer are downright dangerous this time of year when it starts getting colder because they are on the move and seem to want to want to run head on into cars for some reason…..I learned the hard way about deer crossing the road, if you see one or two cross in front of you after dark, go slow because there’s almost always that slower third one coming across running after the first two, ask me how I know about that, what a mess…….

My mother kept a well-filled jumbo bird feeder, and the birds scattered so much seed that the north side of the house was like a squirrel homeless encampment. They burrow under everything, including a lovely, expensive walkway. Turns out Henry lever 22s feed Aquila Quiet Colibri primer-only 20gr 22lr, and it's quieter than an air rifle . . .

At least they are going in style. If I ever come back as a squirrel and get shot, I hope it's a Henry.

I'll have to get some of those Aquila's, wife would be tickled to shoot her Henry in the back yard.

Technically we can shoot here but neighborhood has grown, it would probably tick them off and they would make it not legal.

This fox waltzed across our enclosed back yard recently, and the herd of Whitetails was a few blocks over. We don’t mind them, but take exception to the two-legged varmints that sneak around after dark doing their theiving ways.

The Doctor
An old geezer became very bored in retirement and decided to open a medical
clinic. He put a sign up outside that said: "Dr. Geezer' Clinic.

Get your treatment for $500, if not cured, get back $1,000."

Doctor Young, who was positive that this old geezer didn't know beans about
medicine, thought this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000. So he went to Dr.
Geezer's clinic.

Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can
you please help me?

Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put
3 drops in Dr. Young's mouth."

Dr. Young: Aaagh!! -- "This is Gasoline!

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $500.

Dr. Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring to
recover his money.

Dr. Young: "I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything."

Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's
mouth."

Dr. Young: "Oh, no you don't, -- that is Gasoline!"

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $500."

Dr. Young (after now having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after
several more days.

Dr. Young: "My eyesight has become weak I can hardly see anything!"

Dr. Geezer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for that so here's your $1000
back." (giving him a $10 bill).

Dr. Young: "But this is only $10!"

Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500."

Moral of story – Just because you're "Young" doesn't mean that you can outsmart an "old
Geezer"!

Remember: Don't make old people mad.

Tip of the day, how to start up a conversation with a complete stranger……A few years back when I was in sales my employer sent us to a class on public speaking and one of the things they taught us was that if you wanted to get someone to start talking all you needed to do was ask them a question about their personal life and they would open right up…….My best line to get customers talking about themselves and what was on their mind was “What in the hell is wrong with you, are you a total idiot”…….It worked great but I guess it explains why I’m no longer in sales…..

Tale of the Rat (actually, it was a mouse)

in early summer I was outside the garage and saw this mouse. It was gasping it’s last breath so I mercifully put it out of its misery. Thought that was the end, but no. I think they are seeking vengeance.

So then about 3 months ago I was sitting in the kitchen with the wife and daughter. Out the corner of my eye I saw something move and looked and there was a mouse running under the edge of the kitchen cabinet. It saw us and turned around and hid behind some stuff in the corner. Well the wife and daughter freaked out. Thought about shooting it but figured that would make a mess. So we blocked off the kitchen, I set a trap, and in a couple of hours we caught it. I wondered how it got in. The wife said she thought she heard something under the kitchen sink a couple of nights before. So I looked under there a saw the little bugger had chewed his way through next to the plumbing for the sink. No problem plugged it up with a Brillo pad and that was that, right? Wrong.

A week or so later a saw some mouse turd in the garage. What the……? So I set a trap in the garage, Next morning what did I have? HALF A MOUSE! Something chewed the head off the trapped mouse. So, set another trap. 3 hours later, mouse number 3. Enough is enough. I set traps all over the garage. They have stayed empty. Problem solved, right? WRONG.

2 weeks ago I ask the wife to ride with me in the truck out to the shooting range. I leave my truck parked outside. About half way there we round a curve and there are 3 calves in the road. I slam on the brakes and fortunately miss the cows. About a mile later the wife covers her nose and said “what did you drive through?!” I said what? She said something stinks. It smells like pee in here. Well I didn’t smell anything. So we continue on. A week later we go for a drive one night and she says again something stinks! Well I smell a little something that time. Smells like a barnyard. So we carry on with our night out and right before we get home the blower motor on my air conditioning starts making a huge racket. I thought well, I’ll work on it in a day or so.

I go out yesterday to work on the truck. When I open the door I’m like something kinda stinks. So I pull the blower motor and see some leaves. Well no big deal, the truck stays parked outdoor. That must have been what was making the racket. Upon closer inspection I see not 1, not 2, but 3 baby mouse carcasses imbedded in the blades of the fan. Then it hits me! Oh my gosh, that stinking smell! So I pull the fan off the motor and soak it in a bucket of soap and water. Then I start looking in the vent housing and oh no. That fan made margaritaville out of those mice and I had mouse innards all inside that housing. So I get the Lysol and start cleaning the inside. Fortunately in was easy to get to and there wasn’t much guts from such small mice. I got the fan cleaned up, put it all back together, and everything worked ok, smell wasn’t too bad but still won’t pass the wife test yet. But, problem solved, right? WRONG.

I start reading today online about these issues and there are stories galore. So I go back out today and pop the hood and there is mouse turds on top of the engine, you could tell it had been eating on the valve cover, and there was other nesting evidence in the air intake box that holds the air filter. So, I clean all that out, cover everything with peppermint oil that all sources say mice hate, and we’ll see how it goes now.

there have been a lot of mice outside this year. There are not any food sources on my property but it may be my neighbors. If I have to I’m going to get me one of those trap things where the mice fall into the bucket and see how many I can get.

Brotherman, I feel your pain….I am currently at war with squirrels that want to move in my attic for the winter…..I work nights and when you hear gnawing above your head at 6am it makes you a little crazy, one morning it got so bad I took a .38 loaded with snake shot up there to kill the little SOB but he ran off before I could get a shot at him, I thought about calling in an air strike but since then I have purchased an expensive but very accurate scoped air rifle and have become a deck sniper…..So far 4 down and 1 to go, I hope the little bastards talk to each other and say, dude what happened to Billy, he was just up the tree with me and now he’s not moving and all stiff……

Our last house had a pool and my wife’s elderly aunt lived with us and she had to have a well stocked bird feeder to look at all day so with a constant food and water supply available we developed a huge RAT problem big time which was not fun to fight……About this time of year when it started to get colder I fired up the outdoor gas pool water heater one evening and about 50 baby rats came running out of that thing on fire, I felt bad for a second but I got over it pretty quick…..

I had mice 2 years ago. I know what that’s like. They were always either fighting or effing up there late at night and drove us nuts. Finally found where they were getting in and built a one way spring loaded door. Suckers even chewed through wiring before I booted them, caussing a back rooms ceiling fan to go dead, which I’ve yet to fix. Interestingly, beneath where our owl who lives in the garage, there was a partial carcass a few days after the trap door install. Must have been scurrying around at night trying to find another entrance and Mr Owl (as we call him) spotted him.

Found three boxes of forgotten .410 in the back of my ammo stash.
This box came with the Winchester Model 42 pump that my grandpa gave me in 1956.

Old ammo boxes are nearly as much fun as old guns and accessories. 2 bucks for a box of 410, those were indeed the good ole days.
