View Full Version : Grip recommendations

I am looking for a grip enhancement for a PM9 that would add a little give and be comfortable to carry in a IWB or tuck holster. I assume it would also improve grip. More like rubber than skateboard tape.
What grip(s) do you recommend and what are the characteristics of that grip which appeal to you.
Thanks!

I have a Hogue with beavertail on my CW9 and LCP. Likes: 1. Realtively inexpensive 2. Beavertail part softens recoil 3. Very gripy, and good finger groove placement on the CW9. 4. Fills out the grip. I don't have huge hands, but these guns are still a bit smallish, so they make the gun more ergonomic

The Hogues are comfy to me, but I was using the mini sleeves without the beavertail and found myself having to readjust them; they'd skootch around with use.
I have the talon rubber-black stick-ons now and they work for me; lots more gription without any discomfort. I surmise that the granulate-black is like skateboard tape.

A cut of a bicycle inner tube works great. I've used that for years.

I’ve thought about how awesome it would be if someone could invent a thin rubber like that that would react like heat shrink, but retain its rubber qualities after shrinking. Man I’d put that S on everything! ;)

I'm not positive, but I think that does exist. I looked for it, too, but never got around to buying any and now I forget where I saw it.

The inner tube works well and very versatile as you can cover as much or as little as you need. The only downfall which isn't a downfall to most but a major one to guys like me who put looking cool as job one is it just doesn't look cool.
Many don't care as long as it works, me, I gotta have both works and looks cool.
Course we could get into the beauty is to the eye of the beholder and find some who think inner tube is the most beautiful thing on earth nest to Cheryl Tiegs so perhaps it's a moot point.

Another small plus to the inner tube is you can add material to the grip and then put the tube over it to create a palm swell or just fatter at the bottom to force a high grip etc. I did this on a couple. Sometimes not easy but works well once you get it.

I have used this one only I flip it over with groove on bottom....seems to work better.

I sold a Pachmayr rubber grip because it moved around a lot, even with the hair spray and heat gun treatment. Later bought a pre-cut Tractiongrips tape and never looked back: thin and grippy like Talon grips but cheaper.

I found one like this but is lists a P9. Will that fit a PM9?
Thanks!

I believe the grip is longer on the P9.

Bawanna is correct. When trying to find one that fits on a gun, if one is not specifically made for yours, I take the gun in and hold it up next to the grips, seeing where it will start and stop. So long as it does not block your mag release, and does not extend past the magwell, then it should fit. They can be a struggle to put on if you get one that fits right. Never had one move around if it fits right.

I had this one laying around, that I took off an M&P 40 some time ago. Fits decent, not Bawanna approved for aesthetics, but it works (Kel tec cp33) By the way SteveOak, I googled for pics of “hogue grip on kahr pm9” and found multiple pics with them on there, so I know the right one is out there for you somewhere. I wish I knew which model # so I could let you know. Maybe soon enough someone with one on here will chime in and give you better direction.

I have played with options for years. Talon work the best for me as I found Hogue and others tend to hang up on my pocket carry. Hickock45 that has huge hands gets buy with two layers of Talon grips on his smallest pistols. My theory is, if I wanted a bigger gun I would have bought one.

Bike tube just works, inexpensive, feels good, works for pocket carry, tastes great, less filling, what’s not to like…….Pocket pistols have one job, come out clean and fast to save your life from the bad man so keep it simple, pretty don’t matter when your life’s on the line………

Aesthetics have ZERO meaning to me on my EDC handgun which is a CM9. I use several wraps of good old fashioned "Friction Tape" from Home Depot to build the grip the way I want it. Fills the hand juusssttt right, holds up fine and if/when it needs replacing...I've still got pretty much the whole roll to fall back on.
If I ever decide to "pretty it up" ( highly doubtful) I'm gonna find some pearl grips for it.

Awesome! I hope it works well for you! I forgot to mention, but for future reference by others, but Pachmyer makes a small one as well. It has built in palm swells that make it very comfy. Not even sure if they are still around though. Once had them on an a little .380, but forget which gun that was.
Update, found some online:

Thanks @BirdsThaWord and everyone who contributed.
The grip arrived as expected. It is not everything I could have hoped for but it is pretty good. It does what I need it to do which is to make the handle a little larger and give it some compliance so it is easier to secure. I will need to trim it a bit. When I push it down a bit to give the right spacing for the finger groove below the trigger guard the bottom goes a bit past the end of the handle.

Is the Handall Jr the one that most folks put on upside down, I can't remember. Might not have to trim? Might be the Hogue I'm thinking of.

Talon grips with the rubber texture. Love ‘em. Have them on 2 P9s, CM9, and my P380.
