Aunt BeckyOne afternoon a teacher gives her class a homework assignment to go home and have their parents tell them a story with a moral.
The next morning the teacher stands in front of the class and asks, “would anyone like to share the story from their homework?”
25 little hands shoot in the air and the teacher calls on a young boy.
“Well,” starts the boy, “my family raises chickens, and one time our chicken laid 9 eggs, but when they hatched we only got 8 chicks.”
“And what was the moral of that story,” asked the teacher.
“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch!”
“Very good!” She responded, “who else would like to share their story?”
This time she called on a girl in the front of the room.
“We raise chickens too, but we raise them for their eggs,” said the girl. “One time we put our eggs in a basket in the back of our truck to take them to market, but on the way we hit a bump and the basket flew out and all the eggs broke.”
“What was the moral there?”
“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket!”
“Excellent,” said the teacher. “We have time for one more story- who would like to share?”
This time she called on a boy in the back of the room. “Ok, Johnny- tell us your story.”
“My dad told me a story about my aunt Becky, who was a pilot in Desert Storm. One day she was flying over enemy territory when her plane was shot down, and all she had in the plane was a bottle of whiskey, a machete, and a machine gun. So she drank the whiskey on the way down so it wouldn’t go to waste and when she crash landed there were 100 enemy soldier waiting for her. So she killed 80 with the machine gun until she ran out of ammo, then she killed 10 with the machete till the blade broke off, then she killed the last 10 with her bare hands.”
The teacher is absolutely appalled, but trying to maintain her composure she chokes out, “and w-what did your father tell you was the moral to that story?”
“To stay the hell away from my aunt Becky when she’s been drinking!”

Poor badger
Couple riding home run over a badger, they stop and find out it is still breathing but freezing cold. Husband says "put it between your legs to warm it up" Wife replies, "But it is all wet and it stinks" He says "well hold the badgers f__king nose then"

In this particular case that is a bad thing as I threw up all over myself but it's shower night tonight anyhow so timing was ok.

When I was like 5 or so my Grandfather had a 59 Ford Fairlane 500 we would take on trips to the beach and to horse shows and I would be stuck in the middle of the back seat between my mom who smoked Tareytons along with my Grandmother chain smoking Salem’s ……..My Grand Pa and my dad in the front seat smoked unfiltered Pall Mall’s and my uncle usually went with us and he smoked Tampa Nugget cigars and nobody would roll down a window or even had a second thought about the fact that I was turning blue…..If you did that now they would put you in jail but in the 60’s it was just how it was……

I remember quite vividly visiting my people in Missouri and riding around with my grandfather who smoked big cheap cigars. It was bad enough I came from a cooler climate and it was like high 90's or better seems like whenever we visited, so it was not only hot as hell and nobody rolled down a window but then filled with smoke.
I remember thinking I would surely die. I finally asked, does this rig got air conditioning, it was just a plain chevy as I recall, nothing fancy. He said it did, I said why don't we turn it on? He said it effected the gas mileage. I told him I'd buy the gas.
Didn't want to roll the window down cause that would have the hot air blowing in.
Crazy times but other than that very good times.

Tareytons! I just had a flashback: the ubiquitous "rather fight than switch" billboards and magazine ads. I remember my aunt switching off Tareytons to More cigarettes - and us laughing at the hole in the end - looked weird.
Thanksgiving weekend wouldn't have felt the same without my Mom and her sisters sitting around the table the next day in a cloud of cigarette smoke, reminiscing, swapping tales, and shooting sh1t for hours.
Neither of my folks smoked, but every good host had ashtrays available, and one of the go-to Fathers-Day/Mothers-Day/Christmas gifts that we all made in elementary school art class was a clumsily-crafted, garishly-painted ceramic ash tray. Bet that doesn't happen too much anymore . . .

Yeah, I've been known to talk to myself ... a lot. The best part with that is I usually agree. BUT, occasionally it turns into an argument. Most times I settle the argument, which is usually some kind of compromise. I do hate it when the argument can't be peacefully settled and it results in physical violence.

Dunno if appropriate but, if not, the mods can do as they wish.

Off our sister forum:

[Begin quote]

Folks: I am the above referenced museum curator for the NRA National Firearms Museum. Suffice it to say that it is very bad at NRA HQ. I believe that the museum has been allowed to remain closed, now for more than a year and a half, due to major problems. I'll give you folks some background - feel free to skip to the end if you wish.

When I was furloughed in early 2020, the understanding given to the many dozens of staff displaced was that it was a temporary situation and that when COVID rules in the state of Virginia eased - we would all return to work. Bear in mind that the staff furloughed were all over the HQ and were responsible for many daily functions. Our mailroom, for example, was reduced to two staff and NRA departments now have to go down to it to retrieve their mail daily. Certain divisions, like the museum, had only one "essential" staffer allowed to remain. For some reason I was not selected as the essential staff despite having seniority and wider ranging program responsibilities. The individual selected was only responsible for the NRA Gun Collecting program and had little experience with the collection record database. Our Registrar and our FFL person were also furloughed.

Initially the furloughed museum staff had been permitted to use the NRA email system and a VPN (virtual private network) was established to allow me and the Registrar to continue inputting and updating collection records. Then that came to an abrupt halt, as NRA realized that furloughed staff were not allowed by law to continue working - even on a volunteer basis. Now skip forward a year.

Furloughed Museum staff had received little to no information on NRA matters and the NY bankruptcy trial was in full swing. Only glowing pieces in the NRA magazines stating - "all was well" but no mention of staff return. I had completed 35 years with the Association by that point and was nearing early retirement age, so I decided to retire. When furloughed, we had all received notice that we would need to contact NRA Security to return to our offices to retrieve personal belongings. So I did and was told - no problem, come by on this date and time.

Then things went strange. I was told by the "essential" museum staffer that no - I could not come into my office and I would have to provide a list of what material and personal belongings I had. Fortunately - all my personal loans had been logged through our Director, who had retired prior to COVID. The loan contract files were in the Registrar's office and I explained what to do. On the appointed day, I showed up and was directed to the Multi-Purpose Room (in the other tower of the complex) and some of my personal loans were there. Not everything, by any means. I signed for what was there and asked to return in a month for the remainder. I and the Registrar also offered to come in to help locate the missing items.

Fortunately, I had both the Registrar and the FFL person to assist in packing up these loans in both of my cars. The Human Resources Director had intervened and I was allowed to go into the second floor offices and pack up my personal belongings inside my office. If I had been forced to list all my books - it would have been another volume.

At the conclusion of this, I wanted to get a farewell photograph with my Registrar and FFL person in the museum galleries downstairs. Nope - denied by the essential staffer.

I knew that there had been a "VIP" tour that had gone through the galleries recently and pointed that fact out. No matter.

To cut to the chase - several of my personal loan items could not be found, despite having been securly stored in the museum conservation lab and in exhibit cases. It took three more months to get a check from NRA for these missing items. Why so long? The essential staffer refused to answer emails or telephone calls for a three week period and I finally went up the food chain. At that point, I also noted that the essential staffer had not been answering Facebook inquiries (I still had access to the Museum Facebook page). That evidently didn't sit well with the essential staffer as I was removed from the Facebook page and he also unfriended me on Facebook. Oh well. Folks further up the line also slow-tracked my reimbursement and I had to finally contact the NRA Secretary to get any response.

So if you've managed to read through all this. Here's the part that should make your blood boil. At one point in the retrieval of my items, I got a call from an auction house that I knew. They had been unable to reach the Museum essential staffer and wanted to know what the status was on a shipment of museum guns going off to auction. When I went on furlough - we had no such shipment planned. Any deaccessioning of the collection would have to be conducted through established policy and approved by the NRA Gun Collectors Committee. And also ask yourself - where would this money be going?

So have museum guns been removed from the collection? Don't really know. All I know is that to this date - I have not been permitted inside the museum galleries. Those of you that have met me or know of me will recall that I have a near photographic memory for the collection and I really didn't need the collection database to identify or locate any collection item. I fear the reason that neither I or the Registrar were allowed into the galleries was that we would immediately recognize that part of the collection was gone.

The NRA National Firearms Museum remains closed even today, despite just about every other Virginia museum reopening. I sent the essential staffer and his superior information on reopening I had gleaned from visiting other museum, but no response. If you read the Facebook questions being posed on the Museum's page - you'll see a lot of other folks are puzzled why the doors are still shut.

The HQ roof is leaking badly and the NRA legal library on the 6th floor had to be moved to a small building next door. The lower level where the vaults are located has flooded in the past. I have no idea how the collection is faring. In the past, I had a team of volunteers that regularly mornings would go through cases waxing firearms and checking for any problems. When we didn't work in the galleries, we worked down in the vaults. Sadly I recently got a call from a museum lender that had asked from a historic piece back.

He told me his pistol was rusted. That would not have happened when I was on watch. There are millions of dollars of guns just in the galleries.

I am a 4th Generation NRA Life member and was proud to work for the Association for 35 years. Now, not so much...

Anniversary
A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee.
'What's the matter, dear' she whispers as she steps into the room, 'Why are you down here at this time of night
The husband looks up from his coffee, 'It's the 20th Anniversary of the day we met'.
She can't believe he has remembered and starts to tear up.
The husband continues, 'Do you remember 20 years ago when we started dating, I was 18 and you were only 16,' he says solemnly.
Once again, the wife is touched to tears. 'Yes, I do' she replies.
The husband pauses The words were not coming easily.
'Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car'
'Yes, I remember' said the wife, lowering herself into the chair beside him.
The husband continued. 'Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, "Either you marry my daughter or I will send you to prison for 20 years'
'I remember that, too' she replied softly.
He wiped another tear from his cheek and said "I would have gotten out today."

The sheep farmer.....Jocko
There was once a sheep farmer named Jocko who needed help with the difficult task of castrating some of his inferior male sheep to keep them from breeding with the females. He hired a French guy who didn't speak English, but was a very good worker.

After the first day, they had successfully castrated 14 sheep and his French worker was just about to throw away the 'parts', but the sheep farmer yelled, "No! Don't throw those away! My wife fries them up and we eat them. They're delicious and we call them 'sheep fries'."

Later that day, the French hired hand came in for supper and indeed, the 'sheep fries' were tasty.

The next day, they castrated 16 sheep, and the following evening they all settled down to another supper of 'sheep fries'. The third day, however, when the sheep farmer came home, he asked his wife where the French hired hand was.

She said, "You know, it was the weirdest thing! I told him since there weren't very many 'sheep fries' this evening, we were also going to have French fries. Then he screamed and ran like hell."

Lessons in life…..

Sometimes when you cry, nobody cares and sees your tears….

Sometimes when you are hurting, nobody is there to see your pain….

Sometimes when you are sad, no one is there to comfort your sorrow….

But if you are in a major sales meeting with the big boss and a new client and accidentally let go a fart that reverberates off your chair, well suddenly the world is right there with you……

No sir, Google bought Gordon’s Pizza last month.

OK. I would like to order a pizza.

GOOGLE:
Do you want your usual, sir?

CALLER:
My usual? You know me?

GOOGLE:
According to our caller ID data sheet, the last 12 times you called you ordered an extra-large pizza with three cheeses, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and meatballs on a thick crust.

CALLER:
OK! That’s what I want ...

May I suggest that this time you order a pizza with ricotta, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes and olives on a whole wheat gluten-free thin crust?

Well, we cross-referenced your home phone number with your medical records. We have the result of your blood tests for the last 7 years.

Okay, but I do not want your rotten vegetable pizza! I already take medication for my cholesterol.

GOOGLE:
Excuse me sir, but you have not taken your medication regularly. According to our database, you purchased only a box of 30 cholesterol tablets once, at Drug RX Network, 4 months ago.

CALLER:
I bought more from another drugstore.

GOOGLE:
That doesn’t show on your credit card statement.

I paid in cash.

GOOGLE:
But you did not withdraw enough cash according to your bank statement.

CALLER:
I have other sources of cash.

That doesn’t show on your last tax return unless you bought them using an undeclared income source, which is against the law.

You can also see the Dobbs hat right in front of the trolls that somebody here (wish I could remember) gifted me many years ago. I have a huge head and this thing fits perfectly. I still wear it. Very comfy, very light. Wife I don't think likes it too much but she has no taste in hats I guess.

I learned a new term for myself tonight watching Fox News, it’s called Cisgendered. I never knew I was that way but apparently it means you are a male with two boys and a Richard and pack a lunch pail everyday to work a job that requires using tools and doing a service that needs to be fixed, repaired or replaced and which the LGBTQXYZ whatever community decided to label you as a Cisgendered thing……Well I’m proud to be Cisgendered and I need a flag to put on my bucket truck for the phone company I have worked for the last 38 years pulling cable and doing a necessary job to provide a living for my family and do the work that has to be done to keep the internet working for idiots that come up with such crap……….

I’m a full grown adult male, I wear man clothes and know how to fix plumbing, electrical and most things, I can fix a flat tire on the side of the road without calling for help and I have a working chainsaw if I need it……..I enjoy changing my own oil in my cars and I don’t mind getting dirty and if I get bored I crank up my Chevelle in the garage with the door down and listen to her rumble for a bit and enjoy the exhaust smell….

I’m old but at least I know who and what I am and have no questions about how God made me……

if you work for the same phone company I ga that I work for in AL, I’m out Nov 15. I’m not having them tell me to take the jab, or take CRT training, or tell me how to think! The only thing I’m taking is my benefits before they steal those and my Lump sum before they raid the pension. Keep driving that truck and give them hell for me cause you’re safe for the moment, but watch your back.

As much as I dislike Alec Baldwin and agree that he broke every firearm rule in the book such as all guns are permanently loaded and never point any firearm at something you don’t want to destroy you have to look at who was the lead armorer on the set and responsible that the prop guns were correct and safe……24 year old blond bimbo Hannah Gutierrez Reed shouldn’t have been allowed to even think about a firearm much less be the safety officer/armorer on a major movie set……The interview I saw with her had every forth word as “like” she said, my daddy like showed me like everything like I know about guns but I’m like really nervous when it comes to like loading blanks into the prop guns…….

Sad someone had to die and another injured because of gross stupidity and negligence……

Agreed as well. Also, probably just about everyone in the “film industry” is a liberal. Liberals tend to be anti-gun, so they are going to be pretty clueless about guns and how to handle them safely. Baldwin himself should have inspected that gun and the loads prior to putting his finger on the trigger and prior to pointing it at someone. Doubly so since there had already been negligent discharges. A couple of people with blame on their shoulders in this incident.

Precisely weedhopper! We of course don't have all the facts and never will since it's Hollywood and California, and big name players. Evil intent would be no surprise to me at all. I didn't see the interview mentioned above, I'll have to look for it, I can almost visualize what it's like.

What kind of a "dummy" or blank round could go through an entire human body and then into another behind it? Sounds strange to me.

The part about the muzzle direction could be overblown. Apparently it is a common practice to use dummy spots on sets so that an actor can aim the gun where nobody actually is and the camera is then used to make it appear that the aim is actually at someone. I don't care for Baldwin's political views but it is entirely possible that he was aiming at such a dummy spot and the camera person moved behind it, through inexperience, ignorance, neglect, etc. I doubt seriously that Baldwin intentionally did this, but the truth will likely come out.

Now I’m no trained investigator but I think this may have been what happened…..I can’t really blame Alec Baldwin because it was a movie set and an assistant director handed him a Peacemaker .45 and said, cold gun which meant he could pull it, spin it and pull the hammer back, pull the trigger and no problem……I can’t really blame the prop gun armorer because she may not have been responsible for what happened but in the end, ultimately it’s on Alec Baldwin because he he took someone’s word that the pistol was unloaded and didn’t drop the loading gate and spin the cylinder to be sure it was an empty weapon…..

Now here is what I think really happened, there was a lot of union problems going on and there was a threatened strike from film workers for less hours and longer breaks which made for a hostile work situation……..Now I can’t say for sure but it was reported there were 3 guns on the outside prop table, 1 clean and unloaded for practice and two loaded with blanks for the next set, I think there is a possibility that a disgruntled SAG worker put a live .45 Colt round in the “Cold” gun hoping it would help the unions cause thinking it would go into a wall or something but unfortunately it killed a young woman and mother so I hope if that’s how this went down that person will step up and admit how it really happened but I doubt it………A young child lost his mother because of a foolish act which is very sad and I hope the investigation will find who was responsible in the end……

Geezz guys, blaming the union professionals on the set for this accident ("on purpose") is really nuts. Almost everyone on a movie set is Union. The actors have a union, the writers have a union, the cinemaphotographers have a union as well as all the trades that build, power, light and run the sets have a union...
Now add that the "live round to stir things up" theory gives a clueless, anti-gun actor/producer a gun that he might shoot on the set in ANY direction... at ANY crew member and you have, in effect an interesting version of Russian roulette...
There are fifty good ways to screw up a movie while it is in production, without resorting to the "live ammo" option. I don't know what happened, nobody here does, but I'll will call BS that this "accident" was caused "union" sabotage.
Not at all a Baldwin fan, but I find it interesting that such a lefty anti gunner is still willing to "make another million" by carrying and shooting one for a movie. I will watch the actual police investigation as it unfolds with, great interest.

Peace

How did a live round even get on the set? Is there anyone on this forum that would point a gun at someone without checking it themselves? Yes, I know we don't point guns at someone, but if we were actors we would. What idiots.

Bawanna
10-25-2021, 12:19 PM
I typed all this up yesterday and then the internet crashed and it all went away.
I don't think anyone is going to step up and admit they put in a live round. (And I think that is what happened with what little we know). The charges would be endless, accessory, manslaughter, all premeditated, course in California they would probably built them a statue, pay for a sex change and make them governor and hang the janitor for not using a hypo allergenic dust mop.
When we did police training I was often involved with the safety end of things. I'd have to pat down every officer and remove anything remotely construed as a weapon. Did the same thing for civilian actors (especially the women)! I'd end up with a cart full of duty pistols, magazines, knives, back up guns etc. We didn't want there to be any chance that an officer would fall back on training and go for a back up or improvised weapon. We've all heard of officers shooting their duty weapon thinking it was a taser, it happens.
It never should have happened here. Now of course they are trying pass a law that there can be no real guns or ammo on movie sets or productions. Just what they need is more laws.

Looks like they figured out how a live round somehow found it’s way into Alec Baldwin’s prop gun……It seems that bored crew members had taken the prop guns target shooting at beer cans during breaks out in the desert…..Well apparently somebody forgot to clear the guns of live ammo and put them back on the cart before the next set was supposed to happen….The armorer then loaded two guns with blanks and left one unloaded for Baldwin to practice the next scene with except she didn’t check it and assumed it was unloaded…..The assistant director picked up the gun and handed it to Baldwin saying “cold gun” to practice shooting at the camera like the scene called for and a young cinematographer died because of a total train wreck of mismanagement from top to bottom………In this day of computer graphics and digital film production why are real firearms allowed anywhere near a movie set……A young woman and mother is dead for no reason……..Who’s to blame, everybody
