View Full Version : New K9 coming- hopefully

With guns I'm really fond of I like to get a spare (or 5 in case of the Browning Hi Power, I know I need help) so noticing GunBroker and Gun Zone Deals recently seem stocked up I figured Kahr must of released a batch. Thought it might be nice check out a recently manufactured one and compare it to my first one. I found what I thought was a good price on Gun Zone Deals and popped it in the cart and paid for it and got a message the next day that they refunded my money because they were out of stock. What a bummer and waste of time. Well I found another place that had 9 in stock and showed 8 after I purchased one so hopefully I'll get this one. Cost an extra $20 but as long as they really have one to sell I'll be happy. I noticed the K9's tend to dry up, Kahr must just release a batch every so often.

Interesting. I was not sure they even made the K9 anymore, since the tupperware stuff has most people’s eye these days.

They must just make up a batch every so often. I bought my first one in December of 2018 and it was of recent manufacture. Be interesting to see how far apart the serial numbers are after 3 years of time.
There's been a slew of K9's on GB for awhile. Pricey ones.

Agreed! Seems like most everything is overpriced these days. I wonder if we’ll ever return to the good ol’ days when you could find people selling for less than what they paid, with frequency. I got my (now gone) K9 in excellent shape (used) off of Florida Gun Trader for $400, with 3 mags just a few years ago. Missing it now and hope to find a similar deal some day. Maybe just wishful thinking.
The deals are out there Bird, we just have to be in the right place at the right time. I've gotten some pretty good deals on GB. Of course I lost all those in my boating accident, so now I'm haunting the place trying to replace them. :)

They are pricey. I paid 728 OTD for my K9 Elite in December of 2018, this one 3 years later is the standard model and cost 778 OTD. Fifty bucks more for a lower spec model. Oh well, its gone up less than gasoline!

I found a K9 Elite 98 at one of my local shops and snapped it up at $660 OTD. I'll take possession of it today after a 9 day wait. Used to be able to lay down the cash and walk out with a carry permit but that changed a few years ago thanks to Mike Bloomberg's influence. Anyhow, the K9 is intended to be one of my EDC's in a metal 9mm, platform. Also have a PM9 and CW45.
Sounds like it was a good day for you, congrats. Pics or it didn't happen though.

That must have been the day when our 2 boats collided. Terrible day for us both!
Yeah, I still find a deal here and there these days. Just seems to take about 20x’s the looking as it used too.

Gratz on your Elite! Yes, as DAO said, post up once you get it. Any mods planned for it? Lakeline grips? Galloway striker? Or, keepin’ her stock?

No plans yet to upgrade the K9 but I usually upgrade in some form to nearly all my guns, triggers, springs, etc. I'm very familiar with Galloway.
It was a struggle to get my CW45 to work reliably but once I did, she's a sweetheart. My PM9 was a shooter straight up. I stumbled across that one at an LGS, OTD at $346. That quickly led to the CW45, my preferred caliber to carry.

Actually the wait for permit holders is a state issue. The Feds decided not to do checks for dealers any longer so all transfers have to go through local LE. Should be able to call local and get instant check like the old days but apparently they haven't thunk of that yet. Under the current regime. Screw Inslee, we probably won't see an instant check system for quite some time.
I did background checks for many years and it doesn't take very long unless flags raise and further research is required which at least in our area didn't happen very often.
Scarpia what did you have to do to your CW45 to get it running reliably?

I’m curious to what you did to the CW45 as DAO is. I had one once, but wasn’t that into guns back then. I had read that it was the more problematic Kahr if memory serves me right, which scared me back then, not knowing much about them. I would like to get one again, which would be put into carry rotation with the CW9. Please let us know what you did to it. I’m sure there are plenty of answers here if one were to search, but a synopsis would be great!

Oh crap! I have to have 30 posts before I can upload a pix. Being a casual user of forums, that might take months. I did take possession of the K9 this afternoon, shot some photos, with a camera, not the gun. I'll take it to the range tomorrow and have some fun with it and the CW45.
The CW45's problems were: (1) getting the extractor to grab the case rim. The slide would not go into battery unless you gave it a little shove so that the extractor fell into place over the rim's edge. The solution was to take off about 0.03" from the extractor rod that so that the extractor spring was not as compressed. That lightened up the extractor, so it now easily slips over the case rim. I polished the rod's end and the extractor where they make contact. A little dab of gun grease was applied too. Increasing the recoil spring force could have worked too but taking off some of the rod was easy and cheap. (2) The second problem was that I was using a Kimber 1911 Officer 7 round magazine. The lip of that magazine was rubbing against the extractor preventing it from going into battery. I lightly sanded (200 grit paper) the lip so it just clears the extractor. The CW45's extractor sits "low" on the slide whereas other 1911 guns the extractor sits "high", allowing it to clear the magazine's lip by a wide margin. The stock Kahr 6 round magazine is not an issue, just the Kimber, my carry magazine. Kahr claims that any 1911 magazine will work with their 45's, but you need to ensure the lip doesn't interfere as the Kimber did in my CW45.
By the way, this new K9 is #51 in my collection of hand guns of various brands; Beretta, Browning, Bersa, Ruger, Smith and Wesson, Taurus, Llama, Springfield, Rock Island, Norinco, Rossi, Sig Sauer, TriStar and CZ and you read correctly, no Glocks...

I was totally surprised that King County cleared me in just 9 days. It has taken more than two weeks in other purchases. With the hate America, far left wing, commie pinko, progressive liberals running Washington State, I don't see gun purchasing getting any easier.

They have 10 days total to do their background check. If they don't do a delay or rejection you can pick up your gun end of day 10.
I agree, nothing is easy in this state. Almost a mirror image of the Federal situation, maybe even worse.

There isn't a Glock model that would give me anything that I don't already have in one of my guns in terms of performance, accuracy, design, safety, capacity, etc. Plus, I never liked the feel of a 2X4 on my hand.

Wisconsin is easy on purchase. You pick out your gun, they fax in the paperwork for the background check and in 15 to 30 minutes you leave with your gun. I was once delayed for almost an hour which can become a long time when standing around, but nothing compared to some other places. When I have a gun sent to my local gun guy he runs my paperwork before I arrive and there is no delay. Probably illegal, but we have done enough business that he makes it easy on me.

It’s usually that quick in the Gunshine State, but have had a few times where the bg check did not come back so quick. When that happens I get worried that I’ve been flagged due to my political leanings and online posts about such stuff.

It used to that simple here in Washington but the laws have changed plus so many new gun owners are flooding the system that is does sometimes take several days to get cleared. I know of folks who were totally against guns that are now buyers.

I'm happy to report the standard for my Elite 98 is superb. I am truly amazed at the fit and finish of the gun. As a former engineering college adjunct professor, (math and physics), I give Justin Kahr A+ for his brilliant engineering. Well done...
I took the K9 to my club's range yesterday and blasted several rounds to get the feel of the K9. I used 115 grain JHPs (Hornady 115 XTP and RMR 115 MPR's ('multipurpose round')) all loaded with Power Pistol. It put all rounds on the paper at 10 yards, no issues in feeding, firing or ejecting. She's a winner. and will definitely be in the carry rotation.
Meanwhile, at the same session, I popped off a bunch of 200 grain round nose and 185 grain conical FMJ's with the CW45. They were loaded with my go-to 45 powder, Alliant Red Dot. The CW45 performed just like the K9, all rounds fed, fired and ejected as the paper was torn to shreds. I stated in one of my other postings, my preferred carry caliber is 45ACP. I sure wish Kahr made a metal 45 in the K9 size. I'm not ready for a MK45 as its 5+1 is a deal killer. As a great philosopher once said..."but ya never know".
I too wish that Kahr would make a metal 45. As do a lot of us. It seems like a no brainer to me, but at least in the meantime we do have our CM/PM/P and CW45's to carry. Could be worse I guess.
Congrats on a great find!

Full disclosure: I was actually looking for a K40 when I came across the K9. I generally carry my 45's with 185 grain bullets and consider the 40 S&W with a 180 projectile as a high speed 45. I know the ballistics are not identical not to mention recoil, but I also know the 180 grain 40 S&W has more stopping power than the 185 in 45ACP plus a 40 S&W gun generally has more capacity. My Ruger SR40C is my "SR45C" which they never made. I have the entire Ruger SR series, SR45, SR40, SR9, SR40C, SR9C. Love my SR's.
(I'll be carrying the K9 today. I ordered the Mag Guts spring/follower so she will be 8+1 soon.)
Until Justin sees fit to make us all happy, this is my K45

I own 2 K9s, 2 K40s, a MK9, and a MK40. I purchased all 9f them used in great condition for under $400 except for one of my K40s which Buds had NIB for $320. I could never bring myself to pay around $700-$900 for one especially when resale value is so low.

Finally, 25 days after purchase the K9 arrived at my FFL. I gave it a quick once over at pick up and I'm happy to say that it appears that Kahr still builds a fine firearm. The fit and finish are well done. The serial number is a little over 1800 higher than my 2018 model. Be interesting to see yearly production numbers for the K9 or even just the total number produced.

A double stack steel framed Kahr, a hammer fired Kahr, and Kahr K45 should have been manufactured years ago. They also should have offered the steel versions with and without a rail. They also should have offered an aluminum framed alternative. Lastly, they should have upgraded and made cosmetic changes to the look.
They have not innovated AT ALL. All they have have done is basically offered the same gun in different colors. They are the only major gun company that is offering basically the same exact product virtually unchanged for going on.two decades now. They use to be a popular company and a contender back in the day. Now they are slowly but surely being forgotten.
I don't see anything changing as long as Justin is still alive and kicking. I see sales and what they offer especially with regards to their steel framed line being discontinued.

Maybe they got it right in the first place and saw no need for improvement. A double stack or hammer fired gun would no longer be a Kahr. I don't think they ever intended to be all things to all people. They produce a small concealable defensive handgun. That's Kahr's thing.
They have Magnum Research, Auto Ordnance, Thompson and probably others to address the more full size market.
I do still desire a K45, that would be nice. An aluminum frame might be a good thing but in today's love affair of plastic and polymer it might not grab enough market to be worth the effort.
Having a rail on a Kahr sized pistol don't make any sense in my personal opinion. My opinion only of course. Be like hanging a 12x scope on a LCP.
I'm don't consider myself a Kahr fanboy (whatever that is) but I like them just fine.
We do however care very much for Justin the head man (may he live forever) and are very protective of him, his family and his employee's. Your comment I do not consider derogatory but it's close to stepping on the line so please walk softly.

Not the same thing. An MRDS makes perfect sense on a sub-compact carry pistol. Lights, not so much. That is my one and only complaint of any substance about Kahr. They should be offering slides cut for low mount RDS. But...it is a minor complaint.
The K9 is still about perfect the way it is. And still, no one has matched the perfection of the Kahr Elite trigger IMO. There are smaller pistols that are lighter and hold more rounds than the K9, but I have yet to find its match in concealability, accuracy, shootability, reliability, and simplicity of operation. There's a lot to be said about not fixing what ain't broke, and so far as I can see, Kahr is still selling all they make.

Update: I admit to actually buying my first Glock. I got a G27, Gen3 (40 S&W) plus a 9mm conversion barrel. With magazine extensions, it is 10+1 in 40 and 12+1 in 9mm. I also admit having fun upgrading the trigger connector, recoil spring and slide release. The trigger pull is now 3.5-4lbs, sweet. I am so impressed with the slick trigger that I also upgraded my Ruger SR40 with a new connector. I did not realize that the Ruger SR series is a virtual copy of Glock's trigger group. The G27 has been my go-to EDC since I got it a few months ago but it has not replaced my other carry guns. In fact, today I plan on carrying the K9 and I continue to be trying to locate a K40 or MK40, stay tuned...
Anyhow, with 180 grain JHPs downloaded to the low end of the 40S&W range, the 180-grain round is what I consider the same as a 45 with a 185-grain bullet, OR as a "9mm magnum". So, my G27 is a 9mm, 40S&W and a faux 45ACP. What's not to like?

Update: I have since acquired a very clean MK9. I stumbled across the MK9 as I was looking for a K40. I've posted elsewhere that the shop discounted their sticker price of $650 to $475. I jumped all over it at 475 bucks. Might be a bit high but the MK9 was just too sweet to pass up. I'm sad to say that particular shop is closing down at the end of the year, owner says he's tired of dealing with rules, regulations, etc. Anyhow, my search for a K40 continues. Plenty of them on auction web sites but I strongly prefer buying local. Stay tuned...
Forgot to mention, I got the MK9 to my range and she loaded, fired and ejected about 50 rounds of 115 grain JHPs charged with Bullseye and Power Pistol. No issues...she is absolutely in the EDC rotation. (One more posting and I can show a pix of my Kahr collection: PM9, K9 Elite '98, MK9, CW45.)
