I can so relate to that. Bass Pro during the pandemic told me when I was buying a Sig that I was limited to 1 box of ammo. A 50 round box for $10.95, or a 500 round box for $109.50. I bought the big one. Haven’t bought any ammo that cheap since then.

You have to wait till they fly down to a lower limb, but I bark 'em out of their trees like squirrels. They're double-stunned from the branch's vibratory shock and the fall to the ground, so it's pretty safe to get an ear-hold.

From that job I went to work at Hogan Motors a Chrysler Plymouth dealer and we had a couple of Superbirds and 340 Dusters and the Hemi Cuda's. I remember the owner had our body shop pull the wings and special nose sections off the Superbirds because they could not sell them. Everyone thought they were to ugly. I bought my Chrysler 300K there. It had the 413 Ramcharger engine, that car hauled!!!

I remember when I was a kid, barely.........I used to write letters to all of the main companies in the racing business. I would tell them how much I loved their product, and could they please send me some decals/stickers and I would be happy to put them on my car. Free advertising. They probably knew it was from some dumb ass kid who just wanted some stickers, and they were right. I had a whole manila folder and box full of decals/stickers. Moon Eyes, Hooker Headers, Hedman Headers, Isky Cams, Holley, Hurst, Edelbrock, oil companies, etc. Lots of them were really hard to get, even if you bought the product. Damn, a Nova with a 427, that would be scary. Sure be nice to have a 427 Camaro. I had a 68 Camaro but with the small block. They were still plenty fast with a small block......I was 16 yrs. old and hitchhiking after school, trying to get a ride downtown. A guy that I had seen around pulls over and says he'll give me a ride. He had a real mint Nove, nice metallic brown paint job, said 307 on the side up front. Ash tray hubcaps with rims that matched the car color. Bench seat. Minimal gauges and controls. Shorty Hurst shifter. We got rolling down the road and at about 25 mph. he got on it. Kept me pinned to the seat until he let off the gas in fourth gear. I must have had a grin on my face by the way he was looking at me. I said that it couldn't be a 307 and that's when he told me exactly what the car was. It had an L-88. It was/is one of the fastest cars I've ever ridden in. A real sleeper...............looks like an older person's car. The car sat level, but it had suspension work done. It was later on when I actually got to drive one, it was just as powerful then as it was the time before.

Damn, a Nova with a 427, that would be scary. Sure be nice to have a 427 Camaro. I had a 68 Camaro but with the small block.
I drove a 66 Nova 3 on the tree 6 banger about a million miles and even with the little 6 it didn’t handle very well and thinking about that car with a 427 big block and useless brakes is insane……It is scary to remember that the Nova and Camaro were unibody cars with a front frame clip that was mounted to the body with only 4 bolts……..A small block was way more motor than either of those cars needed to go fast and maybe be able to turn left or right…..A light weight front clip car with a massively heavy iron big block would only go straight but it would get your heart beating real fast, especially when you tried to turn or stop……:w00t:

My wife had a new 1962 Chevy II Sport Coupe with the little 4 cylinder engine and 2 speed Powerglide in her senior year of high school She still drove it when I met her our last year of college.
Her mom took it over after that, but some hoods stole it then wrecked the poor thing to put it out of its misery.

I stupidly sold the 66 Nova when we moved back to Atlanta from Charlotte because I didn’t want to rent a tow trailer, one of the many stupid things I’ve managed to do over the years…..The left front fender had a dent that I may or may not have caused coming in hot to the garage after a few malted beverage’s with my softball buds after a game and the right side front fender had some rust damage but the guy that wanted it said he had fenders and a hood from a 67 Nova so I said perfect, no problem …….…I still feel bad to this day even though I sold that car for only $1000.00 to the guy because I knew that 66 Nova fenders and hoods were slightly different from 67 Nova fenders and hoods and the two year models were not interchangeable, why GM did that, I don’t know because they look identical but are not exactly the same and I knew it and God knew it and I’ll probably burn in Hell forever for not telling him because I’m sure he figured it out after I was long gone with his money……

The Lone Ranger was ambushed and captured by an enemy Indian War Party.
The Indian Chief proclaims,
"So, YOU are the great Lone Ranger" ..
"In honor of the Harvest Festival, YOU will be executed in three days."
"Before I kill you, I grant you three requests"
"What is your FIRST request???'
The Lone Ranger responds
"I'd like to speak to my horse."
The Chief nods and Silver is brought before the Lone Ranger who whispers in Silver's ear, and the horse gallops away.
Later that evening, Silver returns with a beautiful blonde woman on his back. As the Indian Chief watches, the blonde enters the Lone Ranger's tent and spends the night.
The next morning the Indian Chief admits he's impressed.
"You have a very fine and loyal horse, but I will still kill you in two days."
"What is your SECOND request???"
The Lone Ranger again asks to speak to his horse. Silver is brought to him, and he again whispers in the horse's ear. As before, Silver takes off and disappears over the horizon.
Later that evening, to the Chief's surprise, Silver again returns, this time with a voluptuous brunette, more attractive than the blonde.
She enters the Lone Rangers tent and spends the night. The following morning the Indian Chief is again impressed.
"You are indeed a man of many talents, but I will still kill you tomorrow."
"What is your LAST request ???"
The Lone Ranger responds, "I'd like to speak to my horse, ... alone."
The Chief is curious, but he agrees, and Silver is brought to the Lone Ranger's tent.
Once they're alone, the Lone Ranger grabs Silver by both ears, looks him square in the eye and says,
"READ MY LIPS!!!! FOR... THE... LAST... TIME...

Butch The Rooster
Sarah was in the fertilized egg business.
She had several hundred young pullets and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs.
She kept records and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced.
This took a lot of time, so she bought some tiny bells and attached them to her roosters.
Each bell had a different tone, so she could tell from a distance which rooster was performing.
Now, she could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells.
Sarah's favorite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen but, this morning she noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all!
When she went to investigate, she saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.
To Sarah's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring.
He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job, and walk on to the next one.
Sarah was so proud of old Butch, she entered him in a Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges.
The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Peace Prize" they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well.
Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making.
Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention?
Vote carefully in the next election. You can't always hear the bells.

]Jeff walks into a bar and sees his friend Paul slumped over the bar...
He walks over and asks Paul what's wrong. "Well," replies Paul, "you know that beautiful girl at work that I wanted to ask out, but I got an erection every time I saw her?" "Yes," replies Jeff with a laugh. "Well," says Paul, straightening up, "I finally plucked up the courage to ask her out, and she agreed." "That's great!" says Jeff, "When are you going out?" "I went to meet her this evening," continues Paul, "but I was worried I'd get an erection again. So I got some duct tape and taped my ***** to my leg, so if I did, it wouldn't show." "Sensible" says Jeff. "So I get to her door," says Paul, "and I rang her doorbell. She answered it in the sheerest, tiniest dress you ever saw." "And what happened then?" (Paul slumps back over the bar again.) "I kicked her in the face."

4 channels on a Sylvania 19” color TV. When cable came along we had that flat rectangular channel changer corded to the set, that you zip back and forth to change channels. If you’re on 3 and want to go up to 36, you move the little bar through all the other channels on the way. Kind of like the address book someone posted earlier.

I had a tv like that only larger. Big ole metal chassis. Ran hot. You could feel the electricity that thing was pulling. When the picture would start to flip, you could adjust the horizontal and the vertical. You could only do that so many times until the adjustment knobs were turned as far as they would go. Then I figured out if I kept a fan blowing on the back, it would stop. That worked for a while. Then there was something important to watch and it started flipping again. I was tired of it. I moved the fan and reached into the back and was able to get a bit more turn out of the hor/ver knobs while watching the picture. Last thing I remembered was a loud noise and I was waking up about 20 ft. away from the tv, against the wall, and my arm was killing me. I must have touched a capacitor. I figured I was lucky to be alive. It threw me like a ragdoll, slammed me against the wall and I couldn't use my arm for a few days.................my neighbor asked me if I knew why a large tv was sitting on the front lawn. I told him that it started on fire, and I had to throw it out of the second-floor window. :p

A good firearm/TV related story.
When I was a kid probably 7 or 8 we were at my uncles house. There was my 3 younger male cousins, me and my two younger sisters. The house was laid out so one could go from the living room, to the kitchen/dining room, down a hall to the bedrooms and back into the living room. A loop as it were. Well my uncle, my dad and my grandfather were sitting in the living room watching an old western movie. Us 6 kids were chasing each other around the loop.
My uncle had just finished cleaning his 22 semi auto, I of course don't recall the make or model but I'm pretty certain it was an auto.
Anyhow, I didn't hear it of course but my dad told me my uncle made the comment that the next time the bad guy came on he was gonna drill him. He then apparently dropped the slide (we all know what that does) and shot a hole dead center of the tv. The world stopped, all of us kids froze like stop action.
To my uncles credit he drilled the bad guy dead center proper. I happened to be entering the living room at the shot and saw the results first hand. For a couple seconds everything was fine, then the picture sucked into the hole and went away. Of course everyone in shock and mom, aunt and grandma extremely not happy.
While this is going on suddenly the picture came back out of the hole and worked perfectly as before. They had to replace the glass front but apparently it didn't damage the picture tube. They watched that tv for many years after that.
Years later my uncle got out of guns, he didn't have many. I bought most of them but didn't get that 22 whatever it was.

Ours was a bit smaller screen with really rounded corners. TV kept business hours coming on after daylight and signing off at 10pm with the national anthem and big flag waving, followed by signal screen then black. Dad & I watched Friday night fights sponsored by Gillett (Look sharp, Feel sharp, Be sharp!). I remember standing for the anthem and dad saying you don't have to stand. I replied I want to. Those were good days for a kid playing with his Range Rider cap gun and holster. Work life came shortly after.

Several years after WWII ended an English middle school invited Royal Air Force ace war hero Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader to speak to the students about how in spite of losing both legs in a crash 10 years before the war and even with rudimentary prosthetic legs of that time was able to fly his Spitfire fighter during the Battle of Britain and shoot down 22 German Luftwaffe fighters…….He said well it got pretty hairy and at one point I had two Fokkers on my left and one Fokker on my right trying to get me but I shot one down but then saw two more Fokkers coming up behind me for the kill shot…….At that point the teacher stopped him saying Captain Bader even though this is a most interesting story I must ask you not to use profanity in front of the students……….Captain Bader said I’m sorry you thought that but you see a Fokker is a type of Luftwaffe fighter plane but to be perfectly honest and true with this story the Fokkers were actually flying Messerschmitt 109’s
I had never heard the story of RAF Group Captain Douglas Bader before someone sent me this joke but after Googling him it was true that he flew Spitfire fighters with basically sticks for legs because the RAF was so desperate for pilots at that point in the war and even with his serious disability was able to not only fly but become a fighter ace……It’s worth a read to Google this guy because he was a real life bad ass…….

This is exactly how I look when I am filling my car in MN. Yes I am aware that gasoline and fireballs from a gun do not mix but they do mix well with a carjacker doused in gasoline and the fireball from my gun.

The University of Florida Biology department recently completed a 2 year Federal Grant funded study to try and figure out why alligators in Florida swamps and inland waterways don’t attack and kill Manatees “Sea Cows” for food because it seems they would be an easy target for prey since they both share the same water and have no real natural defense against predators like alligators that can’t seem to figure out how to take one down…….
The Biology department’s final report determined that the real reason gators don’t kill Manatee’s is that they haven’t evolved enough to be able to drive a speedboat with an outboard motor due to their very short arms………..

Thanks dao, Robert Tuck is another hero I had no knowledge of………Men like Bader and Tuck had the stones to do whatever it took to save the world from the Nazi’s because they knew what the outcome would be if they didn’t act from strength which is so very different from what we are seeing from our Commander in Chief today……….
Yeah, we could use some Tuck's luck about now. Maybe in the midterms?

Silly me, I thought alligators lived in fresh water while manatees lived in salt water. But what do I know? I’ve only lived here for fifty years so I’m just a newbie transplant.

Manatees can live in either salt water or fresh water but mainly like slow current fresh water rivers where they spend more than half of their day sleeping on the bottom only waking up to feed…….I wouldn’t mind being a manatee, heck I already look like one……

I did, but my stubbornness helped keep my common sense from leaking away.
There are saltwater crocodiles, but I think saltwater gators are rare. Manatees may even venture into fresh water, like the St. Johns River, which mixes with ocean water here.

Sgt-Maj
An old Marine Sergeant Major found himself at a gala event hosted by a local liberal arts college. There was no shortage of young liberal ladies in attendance, one of whom approached the Sergeant Major for conversation.
“Excuse me, Sergeant Major, but you seem to be a very serious man.. Is something bothering you?”
The Marine replied, “Negative, ma’am. Just serious by nature.”
The young lady said, “You know, you should lighten up a little. When’s the last time you’ve had sex?”
The Marine replied, “1955 ma’am.” The young lady said, “That’s why you’re so serious. C’mon, I’ll make sure you lighten up.” She takes him to a private room and scwaas his brains out. As she’s panting, she says, “You sure didn’t forget anything since 1955.”
The Marine looks at his watch and says, “I hope not, it’s only 2130 now."

I worked at an Arco station in 1973 for a couple years. Regular was 28 cents a gallon and premium was 32. We were the highest price in town and people would drive off ticked due to high price. Unleaded was brand new and we seldom even unlocked the pump. Only one customer with his Mazda Rotary bought the stuff.
This was all full service too. Wash windows, check oil, tires, whole ball of wax.

Yeah, it may have been closer to early 1974 during the oil embargo crap ... and the beginning of the enviro-whacko attacks on our own oil and gas industry. I got married to my first wife in early January of 1973 (well ... actually still married to her), so that particular time period kinda gets mixed up.

I remember the embargo thing, kind of like the Covid thing. Oil tankers far as the eye could see sitting out in the bay. Gas rationing. Limit to 8 gallons. Heck I worked there and the tight wad Greek SOB rationed me too, not like I could afford to burn up fuel much but still.
A year or so later I was working for a fence company and they were rationing. Owner was totally ticked. Had to have the trucks of course and they want to ration you to 8 gallons. He said it was fine for folks just driving around but guys trying to make a living. He was right of course.

This was shortly after the gas shortage. I worked there so I could get gas without rationing or waiting. This was back in Massachusetts.
Funny. I worked at an Arco also, but in 1975.

I worked in a Sinclair station while going to trade school in 73-74. I got stuck working on Sunday's. The owner came in one after noon the do the till. He came out to the pump island all pissed. “ where the hells the money “. Well we opened at 10:00 am and I was so swamped I couldn’t leave the island. I was making change out of my pockets. He said you can’t do that. I told him to schedule 2 of us for Sundays then. He didn’t, to much of a cheep skate. We were a 2 pump station, 4 cars being pumped at a time and a limit of 8 or 10 gallons per vehicle.
