I looked at a couple of Glocks today... I sold my G17 and G26 about a year ago to fund my Kahr purchases. I hated the Glock trigger and still do! I also didn't like the thickness of the Glock.

I love the Kahrs! I now have 4 of them... P380, PM9, PM45 and P45.

The PM9 (with Big Dot sights) is my American Express Gun. I recently put a Crimson Trace on it and am pleased. I have two of the 6 round mags and two 7 round mags or it. One of the 6 rounders has a nice base plate on it that I got from a guy on the forums. I use it when I carry IWB in one of my homemade holsters. The stock 6 rounder is used for pocket carry. The PM9 has been 100% reliable since day one!!!

The P380 is a great little gun. I pocket carry that when I can't carry a gun. It is also a decent little back up gun. No concerns with reliability with this gun either.

I walked into my local gunshop and my buddy behind the counter showed me the P45 that I have. A good customer of his bought it and then had health problems. He sold several of his guns back to the shop he bought them at. I bought it with the intent of selling it when I got a PM45 but now I'm thinking I will keep it. I've had a couple of malfunctions with it. Accuracy is crazy good with this gun.

The PM45 had a couple of malfunctions when I shot it recently. One was a failure to chamber...and I was shooting 230 ball! I was surprised. Accuracy was excellent and the recoil on both of the 45s is almost pleasant. I like the .45 ACP in these guns.

So... why was I looking at the Glocks?? I was interested in the Glock reliability. I don't like their feel and did I mention that I hate their triggers? If I get one it will be a blue box G36. I got to have the slim frame. The blue box model will cost me less than $500. I'm still debating.

Until then I will...

Carry a second gun. The gentleman from Thunder Ranch says "2 is 1 and 1 is none!" Pretty good thinking. The second gun is an "Atlanta Reload" (sometimes called a New York or Chicago Reload) where you simply draw a second gun instead of reloading the first.
Train with dummy rounds. A failure to feed or a stove pipe is a bad thing. It is a lot worse when you have to stop and think about what it is and how to fix it. If I train with the dummy rounds I will have the wife or other training partner load them in my range mags and they will raise their ugly heads when they please and I will have to deal with them. I've trained hundreds... maybe a thousand people to shoot the pistol in my life and I'm always amazed at the similar actions they take when their guns don't go bang. Puzzled look... cant the weapon... another puzzled look. That is why you have to practice IMMEDIATE ACTION! TAP-RACK-READY!
Maintain my guns. Weekly disassembly, inspection, wipe down, and lube.
Replace all my springs in the .45s and keep an accurate round count afterwards. I will then replace the springs on a regular basis. I am thinking about having a new set of springs that I put in the guns for carry only. Shoot 200 rounds with them in the guns and then take them out when I go to the range. Just a thought.
I took my Kahr .45s out tonight and they are beautiful weapons. Great balance. It is like they were built for me! I can't think of a thing I would change. Seriously.

I love the caliber. I LOVE the triggers! I love the size of the pistols. I love everything about them.

Part of this exercise was to force me to think this through. I will hold off on the Glocks for now. I will shoot the .45s some and if necessary send them back to Kahr for service.

Let me hear your thoughts.

Thanks,

Rick

Well, your 9's have been 100%reliable, so until you feel 100% with the 45's, carry the 9's and use the money that you didn't spend on the Glock for ammo and range time. You won't like the Glocks any better the second time than you did the first. IMHO, Dusty

I carried a G36 for years and it served me well, but after I bought a CW9, I retired the G gun to the safe. Glock makes a good product, but there are bettter guns on the market.

I keep a Glock in my truck all the time, but always have a PM9 on me.

I love shooting my Sig. I love carrying my PM45. I trust both, but the Sig has earned that trust over 15+ years of boring perfection and the Kahr has had to re-earn it after some problems and parts changes.

I tell myself I'm going to carry the Sig more, but I usually just end up taking the PM45 because it's so convenient.

After I acquired my PM45, I had no interest in my G36. I sold it to fund another Kahr purchase. It's heavier, thicker, and bulkier than my PM45. That said it's still a nice weapon. Shot well and was accurate. I stll own a G27 so I wouldn't say anything bad about Glocks. My main focus is on carryability. If I can't carry it, I don't own it. So I think Kahr is the number 1 carryable weapon on the market, all things considered.

I have a g36 and a pm45. The g36 is just to bulky for me to ccw comfortably, I ccw the pm45, but I'll keep the g36 cause its just so trouble free.:33:

the g36 should make one hell of a home defense gun. Nothingout there cmpares to the kahrs in size and weight, that to me is one trait kahr has over darn near any mfg-er.. After that the glock family seems to have all other bases well covered..

Since I have full sized S&W and SIG 45's for HD, I think the G would make a serviceable paperweight.

Not as well as the S&W or sig, not as heavy.

Gee, you must have some high winds in your house. You're certainly right about the S&W 4586 though - it's almost as heavy as a 1911 because it's all SS. However the P220 is lighter than my compact M&P and XD 45's - less than 2 oz heavier than a G30.

It appears that neither one of us should have a problem with paper blowing around.

Same story here. I did carry the G36 three or four days last week and back in the safe it went. The CW9 is just so damned easy to carry.

what made me look past the glock in the first place was, the thickness, weight, harder to conceal then pm9, and the trigger having very little pull to go off...

glock may have reliability and cost over the pm9...but the pm9 has been very reliable to me and i like its trigger pull

I will continue to work with my Kahrs. I looked at the Glock and there was a total of three things that I didn't like.

First of all I love the Kahr trigger and hate the Glock trigger.

Second of all I love the Kahr grip and hate the Glock grip.

Third of all the Kahr just carries like a dream and the Glock isn't terrible but it isn't a Kahr.

Three strikes and the Glock is out. I'm going to spend some more trigger time with the Kahr. I will continue to take the precautions that I listed initially carrying a second gun and being meticulous on cleanliness and lube.

Thanks again,

Rick
