As mentioned in another thread, my wife of 34 years passed away in April. She had stage 4 lung cancer and was on Hospice, so not a surprise. Still difficult to deal with. We had always been dog lovers, our last one passed away in October of 2021. With my wife in and out of the Hospital, we decided not to get another dog, but she wanted me to get one after she passed.

So... I rescued a 4.5 month old Standard Poodle, I wanted a not shedding dog, but he is the largest house dog I've ever owned. I did not really want a puppy, lots of work, but it turned out to be just the right thing. He has kept me occupied, and I now have someone else to talk to. Here he his Pretty Boy Charley!
After Grooming, relaxing on the couch and finally he took a selfie, while we in the back yard.
Smartest dog I have ever owned, easy to train. But gets bored and gets into trouble.

My condolences for your losses. We also rescued a dog. They are the greatest. Smarter than we give them credit for. They also help heal wounds. Good for you. I wish more people would rescue.

Fine looking pup, friends have one similar and it's like petting a nice wool blanket, very smart and sociable dog. We're breaking in a new Mini Schnauzer puppy. (I kind of wanted a Rotweiller) and we'd decided not to get another dog after or little border terrier passed a few months back, but then stumbled on Molly. Never seen such a chewing pup before. No shoe or toe and anything is safe. Damn sharp little puppy teeth. She's really smart and will be fine if I don't bleed out before she stops the biting.
I'm sure Pretty Boy Charley will make a fine mate. Enjoy.

Dogs are awesome !

We got a new baby this year when my Shepherd of 15 years passed last year. WOW though.....they are busy! I got another shepherd who is growing like a weed. He just turned 1 and is about 85 pounds. His "nick name" has become WRECK IT RALPH. He started off the summer with pulling the house A/C off it's slab and breaking all the Freon pipes [oh and thanks FJB Freon is no longer made in the USA and "only" costs $150 a pound, up from $15 a pound]. Here is a picture of him standing watch over our deck to intruders! [He is going to start school soon for tracking and rescue.]

we had a neighbor one time that had a Schnauzer and that thing was like a Rotweiller. If it got away from him when he was walking it watch out. But it was a smart dog. When it heard a car coming it would go to the side of the road and sit down.

We adopted a female Rottweiler Doberman mix back in April we named Gypsy which was somewhat against my will because even though my wife wanted her badly I wondered if we would be able to handle such a big dog like that but as it turned out this is the most loving, sweet non aggressive dog I’ve ever been around…..She was abused as a puppy mill animal and at 3 years old had already had 5 litters of puppy’s and then some SOB threw her and her last pups out on the side of the road and drove off……..Somehow she ended up with the Doberman rescue people and we were able to adopt her and give her the forever home she deserves and I’m amazed at how she is a 110 lb monster love machine after all she’s been through in her short life and all she wants is love, more petting and cheese…….

They say God created man in his image but I really think God created dogs in his image because they like him are always there for you providing unconditional love and forgiveness and all they want in return is for you to spend more time with them…..

Kenemoore, I’m so sorry for your loss but it looks like you have found a great new partner to keep you company and I’m very happy for you…..
