It will ship with insurance from my FFL in SW Ohio to your FFL. Not sure exactly how to price this as I don't see very many of these for sale used.

Asking $1,100 + $35 shipping, or trade for a nice, 16" round-barreled 357 lever carbine, preferably a Henry side gate. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220917/eacddb324f3454389eb0c3d5f47af16d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220917/76c404a776cd2c04e96728d0ba6a6692.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220917/d59d62318ede3ad40485d189b754f9a3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220917/258190689f790defbde73118f4702a02.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220917/710d9cdaeae97743ea10e90dac3808fd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220917/c012369fa258f0f690482fd66bbc335f.jpg

That would make a damn good carry piece for someone. I do not care for the fish scale serrations on the slide, but I do like checkered front straps.
If I did not already have a Dan Wesson Valkyrie, I would be a likely customer. Good Luck with your sale.

First thing in the morning and you hit me with this? I've been looking at exactly these. Wish my piggy bank was just a bit more flush, I'd be all over this with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
My son has one and I've been trying to talk him out of it for years. Timing is just a bit off.
I have a Dan Wesson but I still want this. I'll be frantically looking for loot.

This will get scooped up pretty quickly I fear. Good for you though.

Good thinking on the Henry, I have a couple and they make a heck of a nice rifle. Mine are a 22 for the wife, slickest 22 lever gun I ever held, and mine is a 45/70 sidegate. Been looking for a 357 or a 44 to fill the gap myself.

If you think you have something for even a partial trade plus cash let me know.

And yes about the Henry's! I've fired most of the other brands, both newer production and vintage, and the Henry's are still my favorite. I used to call the owner of Henry every 6 months and beg him to make a round barrel, 16-in carbine. He laughed at me every time I called but said keep calling back! And then several States passed the hunting laws with straight wall cartridges and now we've seen the progression over the past couple years to what he offers now.

I bought their standard 22 carbine back in the early 2000s had a second stock cut to the youth length, and used it to teach all of my kids how to shoot guns and rifles in particular. I've used it as my primary rifle teaching non-shooters gun safety and rifle shooting as well and it's amazing how everybody loves a good cowboy gun! My two youngest have argued for years on who would get the 22 someday. I took care of the argument by giving it to my youngest son on his 21st birthday.

I can retire from LE in mid January 2023, and their side-gate Big Boy 357 is my grail gun. The wife will have it engraved with career dates and so forth.

Thank you guys! I have now gotten used to shooting a 45 at defense range and am as comfortable as can be with the caliber. This will be another hurdle for me, as I have long disliked carrying a gun with a thumb safety. All of my 1911's have (to this point) been for range fun and for fondling. I plan to practice first with my laser, snapping the safety off as I draw & fire... in hopes that I can match the speeds I've acheived with the CW45. As some of you know, I LOVE 1911's, for their cool factor (looks) and hope to get comfortable carrying such a pretty gun. Thanks again!

BirdsThaWord
09-23-2022, 05:59 PM
BTW, looked it up... 10 oz lighter than a conventional 4.25 1911, and 10 oz heavier than the CW45. Should be the best of both worlds! Won't pull my pants down, yet should be less snappy than the CW. I will give a report!

Bawanna

It kicks a bit (shot my son's). But not horrible. Use the thumb safety as a thumb rest. When the adrenaline flows the tension will kick the safety off. Most naturally operated safety ever designed.
Harder to remember to put it back on really and that's not critical with the grip safety and proper finger control.

Training for a new manual of arms: a labor of love. :)

I have no doubt you'll feel like you've been carrying it for a long time Bird. As the Colonel says, and I'm paraphrasing, the most intuitive safety ever devised.

I've been carrying a 1911 for a good long while now. My EDC is a Dan Wesson CCO, but sometimes on the weekend, I will carry my Government model. What a weight difference!
With practice, the safety manipulation will become automatic.
Now, whenever I shoot a gun without a safety, my thumb still looks for it (got a mind of it's own).

Bawanna, I'm glad everyone's happy! I know several people on this forum and others, including you, have given me excellent deals on firearms so I like to pay it forward.

Birds, I also know how awesome it is to have a wife that supports your shooting habit! So if I can help you help her, and be a good enabler at the same time, I'm a happy camper.

I may have a holster laying around for it as well. If so it'll go with the gun when I drop it off at the FFL.

You'll find your adapt to the manual safety faster than you think. Like others have said, I used mine as a thumb shelf so it became automatic to know what its status was. The hardest thing for me for the brief time I carried the 1911 was going from a traditional Sig double action or a Kahr to a single action gun. Sometimes when I rushed the draw and presentation I would fire before I expected to due to the lighter trigger. That was a definite learning curve!

You have a beautiful gun coming your way and I know you'll enjoy it! May you never have to use it in anger or defense and may it bring you a lifetime of pleasure.

Now somebody be a good enabler for me and help me find that 357 Henry Big Boy side gate or X model I'm looking for!

The Henry is one of the ones I'm doing a lootless search for. I'll keep my eyes peeled as well, easy since I'm looking too. Either a 357 or a 44 and I'm not particular about round or octagon barrel, I kind a like octagons myself, not sure why. Maybe it looks old and I like old stuff.

Colonel, I love lever guns from all the great Westerns, especially Once Upon A Time In The West, Eastwood and Duvall of course, and most of Selleck's movies. I have a stack of Lamour's books ready for when I retire from the current profession and move to the next one that hopefully allows more free time.

That said, I prefer the lighter Trappers and carbines, and while I appreciate the historical calibers, I need to stick with the ones I already own...38/357/22/30-30.

I grew up VERY poor, but my dad always had a new Lamour on hand once he finished his last. Looking back, I’m happy he had that small outlet or relief from his tough life. All he did was work, work, work to (barely) keep a roof over our heads and the lights on. I picked one up a few years ago, when visiting him as he has lost his eyesight pretty much completely and they were stacked in a back room. I started reading it and LOVED it. Lamour really could paint a picture with his words. I know one day I will go up to his place to clean it out after he passes. Those books will be added to my library and I will hopefully get to read them all one day.

I also lean towards the Trappers and carbines. I have I thought every Lamour book he ever wrote I thought. Inherited from my dad. I think there are still a few I don't have. One of my kids in an earlier life had a teacher tell him he couldn't do a book report on Lamours book since they are all the same. I sent her Last of the Breed (great book) and she changed her mind.

My Henry 45/70 was probably a poor choice but I fell in love with it. My son has the same gun, I've shot his and she bucks a might, never shot mine yet. Goes well with my Quigley Sharps knock off. Great fun for a few shots till the shoulder turns to hamburger.

Thanks kenemoore! Both excellent and to the point instructional vids. I am going to wear out my laser trainer getting that stuff downpat!!!
My only alteration will be to do so shooting instinctively. Hopefully I can get as spot on doing so as I have with the CW45. I will use the sights some at the range though, just so I know where they are for my poa vs poi, just in case I have some shooting to do that’s further out than the close quarters stuff (in case I’m that “good guy with a gun” in that mall shooter scenario). Thanks again!

Took the S&W to the range today, along with a few others. It shoots great, feels great in hand, but…
After practicing drawing and firing at home using the laser trainer cartridge, I have decided it is to go with the other 1911’s as a nice range gun. After hours and hours of draws and laser fires, I still have a 5-10% failure to grip the grip safety well enough to engage. Secondly, because of my dunlop, it must be carried very low in waist. This makes it a bit of a struggle to unholster quick enough for my liking. I am going to stick with the CW45 as my summer carry and the M&P as my winter carry. I know you guys who mean well will give good advice on how to make the 1911 work (I did get fluid at thumbing off the safety), but I am just not feeling it and doubt I ever would. Nice gun though for sure!
On a side note, today was also the first time taking my new to me (bought here from a forum member) CM9. I can not hit the side of a barn with it. Definitely a belly gun. I am going to keep it as a back up in the safe though. Good running little gun.
Also shot the compensated Beretta 92. SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! Accurate as can be and shoots uber soft now.
Also shot a Gold Cup I got a while back. It was nice too. I would have to say Beretta was the highlight of the day!

If that S&W needs adopting put me at the very top of the list. I've been searching since I could'nt make this one happen. Still don't have enough rubbles but I'll find a way to get some.
That gun deserves better than languishing in a dark safe.

BirdsThaWord
10-13-2022, 02:58 PM
Lol! Certainly wouldn’t languish. I was just looking at scandium to see how it looks uncoated, as in bare to polish. It is definitely (as is) a real looker. That and it was my b-day gift. The wife might sour if I turned around and sold it. BUT… maybe time might change such things. I do make a promise to you though that if it is ever going anywhere that you will get a pm. If you haven’t gotten hold of one by then already.

So back in the day, LEO's would tie a wet rawhide string around the grip safety. Made the draw a hair faster. Now some folks pin it. Just saying. They also make grip safeties with a "bump" built in, makes them stick out a bit.

Never heard of the rawhide deal! Yeah, I know what you mean as some of my 1911's have that "memory bump" too.

So glad you're happy with it!
I found a while back I won't carry a single action gun, especially a 1911. I learned to swipe the safety off without issue, but I've always either carried a DA Sig or Kahr style trigger, and I would sometimes fire the SA 1911 trigger prematurely. I just wasnt comfortable enough with the light, short trigger unless I carried one full time to include work.
Enjoy it and maybe you'll pass it on to Colonel!!
