Going to church in Chicago
When I heard Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were guest preachers at a nearby church, I decided to go there and check them out in person.
As soon as I sat down, Reverend Sharpton came over to me. I don't know why, maybe it was because I was the only white person in the church? He laid his hands on my shoulder and said: " By the will of Jesus the Lord Almighty, and the will of God, you will walk today." I told him I was not paralyzed.
Then Jesse Jackson came by and said: " By the Grace of God, and his Son Jesus, the Lord Almighty, you will walk today." Again, I said that there is nothing wrong with me.
After the sermon I stepped outside and lo and behold they were right...
My car was gone.

Don't forget the time Ward and June were in the kitchen one morning when June said to him "Ward, don't you think you were a little hard on the Beaver last Night?"

The shows back then were pretty slick about slipping in things for the more mature audience members to catch, but very rarely did the young ones (most ... not all) pick up the subtle hints.

Had dinner at Perry’s Steakhouse late this afternoon (for my 78th).
Luckily they offer a senior 3 course special (6 choices in each course) from 4-6pm, so we both ordered that. J had the onion soup, fried shrimp, & crème Brûlée.
I had the Caesar salad, 6 ounce filet, & “flourless” chocolate cake.
All darn good….as it should be even for the discounted Geezer Special.
We had a surprise visitor at the end of our meal, #1 son was entertaining bank clients (some Alabama cattlemen) in the bar area and popped over to our table for a few minutes.

Paddy had been drinking at his local pub all day and most of the night.
Mick, the bartender says, ‘You’ll not be drinking anymore tonight, Paddy’.
Paddy replies, ‘OK Mick, I’ll be on my way then’. Paddy spins around on his stool, steps off and falls flat on his face.
‘Damn’ he says and pulls himself up by the stool and dusts himself off. He takes a step towards the door and falls flat on his face, ‘Oh bloody damn!’
He looks to the doorway and thinks to himself that if he can just get to the door and some fresh air he’ll be fine.
He belly crawls to the door and shimmies up to the door frame. He sticks his head outside and takes a deep breath of fresh air. Feeling much better, he
takes a step out onto the sidewalk and falls flat on his face.
‘Be-Jesus… I’m in bloody trouble,’ he says.
He can see his house just a few doors down and crawls to the door, hauls himself up the door frame, opens the door and shimmies inside.
He takes a look up the stairs and says, ‘No bloody way....’
He crawls up the stairs to his bedroom door and says, ‘I can make it to the bed’. He takes a step into the room and falls flat on his face. He says ‘Damn it!’
and crawls into bed.
The next morning, his wife, Jess, comes into the room carrying a cup of coffee and says, ‘Get up Paddy. Did you have a bit to drink last night?’
Paddy says, ‘I did, Jess. I was bloody pissed. But how did you know?’
‘Mick phoned .. . . You left your wheelchair at the pub.’

Years ago I used to put my gun in two zip lock bags and take it in the shower with me. I determined it was a wasted effort when the wife pointed out that without my hearing aid in I couldn't hear the lawn mower if it was running outside the shower curtain. Gave up the practice, feel kind of nekkid in the shower but of course I am nekkid. No pictures, there was a recent photo of Pelosi and that's more than enough to pray for blindness.

A man walks out to the street and catches a taxi just going by.

A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown ostrich behind him.

The waitress asks for their orders. The guy says, “A hamburger, fries, and a coke,” and turns to the ostrich, “What’s yours?”

My deceased wife had a Home Economics book from the mid 1950's. She loved it because it had recipes on how to make a lot of things people buy in jars today. Even has a section on how to pluck a chicken and remove the pen feathers. Near the end there is a section on presentation. How the wife should stop working before her husband comes home, put on a nice dress and greet him at the door with a smile. We used to laugh about it all the time. This photo reminds me of it. June Cleaver was an example of how that book wanted a wife to be.

One year my wife wanted one of those Dyson vacuum's for Xmas so I got it. She loved it. All the materialistic wife’s gave me a rationing when they asked her/me what she got for Xmas. Years later, we are still very happily married. Every one of them beaches are divorced and have turned into fat cows. Karma is a thing!

It will be 43 years in February. Now my brother on the other hand has been "dating" the same gal for 30 years. They both have their own places and when asked he says "he don't want to rush into things".

I'm a firm believer in not rushing things. We dated a couple years, were engaged for a little over 10 and been married for 36 now.
My grandfather (a wise man) said get everything you think you might want, cars, house, GUNS, and then after your married hold on tight and try to keep everything you got.

I once took a picture of the driveway after about 2 feet of snow fell. The driveway is about 100 yards long, so I took the picture from the front of the house up towards the road. I posted the picture along with an ad for free snow on Craig's List. The closest CL near us is Colorado Springs. I directed the ad to the folks living on the front range who complain every winter about not getting enough snow. I stated to bring your own shovel, truck/trailer, and to please clear the driveway, front of the house and garage, and to shovel our turn around area first before hitting the rest of the 8 1/2 acres.

I received over two dozen responses that were all positive as to having a great laugh, until some jackwad reported the post for some reason. I'll do it again this winter if we get a good dumping.

Leadville is said to be the highest "city" by elevation in the US. It's not a city but a town on the east side of the Continental Divide. Old mining town that no is known more skiing as Ski Cooper is there.

And I agree about anyone moving to Colorado now days. I'm waiting to win the lottery and by ranchland in the middle of nowhere in WY or MT. This state has gone the way of most red states, as it is run by city folks and not those in the small towns or rural areas. And most of those in the cities (Denver and Boulder) are foreigners, mainly from CA and TX. Oh, can't forget all the folks who moved out here, without a job, because of legalized weed. That really helped things.

Here at the house, water boils at 196 degrees, so yes, a pressure cooker would come in handy. It is amusing to see folks from sea level try to cook pasta or rice and not understand why it takes so long.

No AirBnB for him, strictly family.
Turns out he gets altitude sickness up there once in a while, so he bought an oxygen-generating machine that he uses if needed.
Don’t think I’ll ever go up there, as my wife hates the cold weather. She even complains about being chilled in our house during the summertime when the A/C is set at 76.
She likes her beach time, so we do that at South Padre Island at the southern tip of Texas. I don’t mind going down there….

I spent the entire month of February, 1983, in an old ratty, rundown condo beach house on South Padre while running a survey crew planning a route for a new water line to serve the island. I can definitely say that February ain't the time to have to be there. All I remember is the nicest thing I could say was that it was only the "kitty litter box of the world". That experience ended my desire to ever go to the beach again. I do remember running/walking the half mile to the nearest bar a couple of nights a week and a couple of times saw phosphorescent plankton rolling with the tide onto the sand. On the waves it looked like rolling lightning, then when you stepped on it in the sand you would leave glowing footprints. Really wild experience. After asking a few of the "locals" at the bar about it they were wondering what I'd been smoking ... and If I would share. They wouldn't even get off their drunk asses to walk a hundred yards out to the beach and see for themselves. Unfortunately, Algore hadn't invented the internet for the peasants yet so I had to wait several years to google it myself. It was a cool experience (seeing the plankton stuff), but not cool enough for me to ever go back. Rather be at the shooting range.

No kidding about going to any Texas beach in February. We only go in the summertime - either Port Aransas of South Padre (which has improved immensely over the past 40 years).
In fact much of that part of the state has come into the 21st Century, over what it used to be….. hurricanes notwithstanding.
Never have seen the phosphorescent plankton though, maybe it is just a wintertime phenomenon.

Coulda been. I do remember trying to lift what I was thought was a jellyfish with a stick, and the stick carving a rainbow across the sky when the jelly slipped off. That and the growling that the jellyfish did.

I've seen the plankton light up many times. Not on the beach but in the open ocean. After sailing thousands of miles over 15 years onboard 5 ships while I was in the Navy, the novelty wore off. It was pretty amazing, though. And no drugs were involved.

I saw that many times too, on the fantail of the carriers I was on, at night, usually smoking a cigarette. I read once that in a total blackout situation, a few pilots were able to find their way back to the flight deck using the green glow trail that was coming off of the back of the carrier.

Yeppers, we've all lost former running buddies and acquaintances over the years. "There but for the grace of God go I". Makes me wonder sometimes, ok most all the time, why them and not me?

I'd love to sail on a carrier, with or without plankton off the stern.

70 years ago I & my family did a driving vacation around Puerto Rico. One overnight stay in Lajas on the south side of the island we went to nearby Phosphorescent Bay (a “bio bay”) for an evening ride in a glass bottom tour boat. It was fascinating to see all the fish swimming around making light trails.
