I just bought a like new P9 for a screaming deal. It'll be my son's Christmas gift as his first handgun and his CCW.

I detailed stripped it, cleaned and lubed it and then function checked the gun and all 3 magazines. The two 7 rounders work perfectly and eject well. The 8 rounder ejects better than the two 7rd ones, but I have to slam it really hard to get it to seat. I've checked the dimensions of all three mag bodies all the way around and they're identical. The extended 8 round magazine pad does not hinder the magazine from seating. It's almost as if the mag release cut out is lower but it's not. Any ideas?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221210/9f56a4bb8568fd979a1d3658c51a57ba.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221210/a9581b28d57a1af37ec2908a61293bcd.jpg

Strange, one would think it would be the other way around. The release is obviously catching and releasing properly on the 7's. The 8 rounder has to have the notch slightly too low. It does the same thing with the slide locked back?

I don’t have any ideas but that pistol sure looks good.

Thank you gentlemen and great idea Colonel. I tried it with the slide back and there's zero difference with it locking. However, since there's no slide tension I was able to freely move the magazine in-and-out. I think the problem is the extended base pad is too tall. I'm gonna try gently sanding a little bit off the top and see if that makes a difference.

I discounted that issue as you mentioned in your post that the extended mag base pad did not hinder the mag from seating.
I'm sure you'll find with a little judicious material removal from the top you'll have a happy ending. Fingers crossed.
