Saw this on another forum….
Member says an acquaintance passed away and the widow asked him what to do with her husband’s collection. He posted these pics of the estimated 750 guns packing their 2 car garage:

Those handgun boxes are full of mostly unfired guns.

Can you imagine at an average of just $200 per gun that is a chunk of change.

Gonna take a lot of time and effort to find homes for all those. Hard to comprehend. Would need a staff to help with annual cleanings etc. Wow. Love to be able to look at them all but would sure give the wants and gotta have this I'm sure. I don't see a single gun in the photo's that would be worth anywhere close to 200 either. Nice stuff, no junk that I can see.

The guy who took the pics was able to buy these two Rugers at a fair price.

Just hope nobody cheats or low balls the widow. I hate it when that happens.

And my wife thought I had too many firearms and ammo...you know...before the avalanche.

A warning to all. Make a list of all of your guns and current values and date it. Up date the prices every few years so that who ever deals with it in the end has some idea of the value. We never know when it will happen to us.

Exactly. I did that 2 weeks ago. I was shocked at the value I bought at, which were all good deals, and replacement value is 25% higher today for the things that are still available.

That looks like the collection that was at Ahlman's last time I was there. They had a woman bring in her deceased husband's collection for them to sell. I believe it was well over 500 guns

Can a person just walk through Ahlmans and look at all those? Or is that the warehouse?

When I retired, I took ALL relevant information, passwords, financial contact info, account numbers, and correct phone numbers and put them on a password protected jump drive (https://www.verbatim.com/subcat/usb-drives/professional-usb-drives/store-n-go-secure-pro/products/). All that information was them removed from my home computer and any cloud storage.
Included in that is a record of every firearm I currently own as well as the price paid. There is also a picture of each of them showing the serial number with my my DL and carry permit.
None of that info shows up on my PC. I make one of these for each of my two children.
In my gun safe, I have records of every firearm I have ever bought or sold with names and numbers. On the inside door of my safe is contact numbers of friends who I trust to handle the ones my relatives may choose to get rid of. Fortunately for me, my collection is small and none will be sold. There biggest problem will be hauling out the 50cal. ammo cans of loaded ammo of each caliber.

No....that is not the warehouse, it's the part of the store.

That's a heck of a store. Kind of like wandering the Cody Museum but you can buy anything you drool on. That's huge.

It's amazing what's out there.
I watch a semi local auction co. site, and some of the collections they put together have a lot of nice stuff and very large collections. They do a half dozen a year. Lots of ammo, powder, reload supplies, sporting goods and equip. They do ship but most of it is picked up. Their main auction house is about 2 hrs. away, so that would be doable if I saw something I had to have. Unfortunately, people are paying retail prices or more for firearms.........It would be nice to check that collection out. I would imagine that if you can't touch everything in one day, they probably have a tent you could set up and sleep over.

Well I'll be hornswaggled. Yall are only about half way. Directly north of my home state of Missouri. That's Missouri, not Misery. Haven't been back in many years, got a ton of relations back there. Get myself together and might have to take a road trip via Ahlmans. Be easy, I90 to Ahlmans turn right and south to MO!

What County did you hail from?
My Dad was from Graham in Nodaway County in the NW part of the state, Mom was from Flat River (now Park Hills) in St. Francois County south of St. Louis.

We're mostly in Pike County. Bowling Green, not too awful far from Hannibal.

+1 for what 340pd said: document your collection well and password protect your docs and don't have that info floating around in vaporland, even if you think its secure. Put it on a password protected thumb drive and put one in your fireproof safe and the other with your kin or the Trust attorney. In the name of the file I have password hints that only my son would know. I have a friend that I had to dope-slap into unconsciousness because he had tens of thousands of dollars in his collection with little documentation. Just research it, it's easy to do.

Food for thought.
Since my wife passed, I have no one, I trust to leave my small collection to. I only have a few rifles, some shot guns, and a few hand guns. My younger brother is a convicted felon, so he's out, and I don' trust his off spring. I myself am childless.
So here is the question for you FFL experts, can I leave all my "stuff", ammo, guns, holsters, etc... to the local American Legion? Can an organization that does not hold an FFL, "own' firearms? The Legion would be my first choice.

Not sure...a post might be limited to 15 rifles? I would do a Trust and leave them to a friend.

My dad was from Bolckow, in Andrew County, just south of there. There are TONS of relatives in Saint Joe. He was in Army as an MP at Fort Leavenworth during WW2.
He had stories of hauling prisoners from both coasts on the train.

I have been through Bolckow a few times long ago.
My dad’s family farm (now owned by my brother) is close to Bolckow, southeast a bit almost next to Cawood (which may not even be on the map anymore - like Pumpkin Center up on the highway to Maryville).
My great-aunt lived in Barnard.

I have given a number of 22 rifles to the local state hunters safety course. They also really appreciate ammo. If you have shooting buddies, might be a good idea to gift some of them off to them. If nothing else find a gun club in your area and ask them if they know of shooters in need.

Thanks for reminding me of Ahlman’s. It’s only 55 miles from me. Looks like a quick Saturday road trip this weekend. It’s only gas money.
