Just read about this today, and saw some videos on Youtube showing that no velocity was lost, and that it reduced muzzle flip for quicker follow-ups, so for $175 plus shipping I was wondering if anyone here has done it, and their thoughts on it etc?

TIA...

I believe Ole Jocko magna ported his PM9. I had my K40 magna ported. They did a real nice job, looks good. I didn't notice a lot of difference in the muzzle flip myself. They say that inexperienced shooters will notice it more than people that shoot frequently. I don't shoot a lot myself but she still bucked quite a bit. It also might be much more noticeable in the 9 than the 40 also.

I have done a few and always was happy...except on the S@W 329 Mountain Gun in 44 Mag; it caused NO MUZZLE FLIP and all the ENERGY straight back into hand. It was brutal!

Hmmm, how is it shooting those ported fellas from low ready?

Do you get a bunch of hot gas in the face etc?

TIA!

With short barrel gun I don't feel the hot gas is an issue. The end of barrel is right there anyway. Smith and Wesson has used Mag Na Port for years on their factory sold guns.
It definitely helped reduce felt recoil. Look at all the gun makers that now port guns themselves. If it didn't work they wouldn't do it. I get a kick out of the internet experts that claim doom and gloom of getting flash in face in a defensive shooting incident. If you hold ANY GUN up close you are going to get powder, flash and noise up close! I think it was worth it on guns I have done. It worked well on my PM9 and the MK40.

Yeah, but hopefully the un-ported barrel pointed away from you when it's fired LOL!

With the porting, the ports are heading upwards etc, so if shooting from the hip for instance, or centered low ready (i.e. below your face), it seems you might get some additional gas?

That said, are you saying you've tested this and that it's no problem with the PM9 (or any short 3" barrel)?

Hoping for a yes!

TIA!

Those LDA's. Does the L stand for Light? As in Light Double Action? Or is it L for Long? I've always wondered about this.

The pistol is a reliable stainless steel pistol optimized in several respects for concealed carry. 4.25" Commander length barrel. Officer height frame. Any Officer or Government model magazine may be used. 2004 models differ slightly from this 2003 model. The CCW frame is significantly thinner than a standard M1911 and the use of very thin grips secured with O-ringed stainless Allen screws keeps the overall width to that of the slide. The pistol fits in "Commander" holsters. The grip safety and frame in that area have been significantly rounded and shortened (bobbed) and there is no beavertail. Since there is no hammer, other than a thin flat vestige, a beavertail is not necessary to prevent hammer bite. Standard modern small-pad M1911 thumb safety on the left side of the pistol only. Large ejection port with the front lower corner additionally radiused for reliable ejection of unfired cartridges.

The LDA is another one of those that everybody either loves or hates. I personally love it, I have 3. Scratch that I gave my youngest son my favorite for graduation. It's a long but almost no weight pull till it hits a wall and then it's like a single action 1911. It's a nice clean trigger pull.
Easy to stage up to the wall if one prefers or follow through. It kind of gives a person a margin of error in case you start to shoot something that don't deserve to be shot I guess.

Well. I've talked to a number of sub-compact owners who ported their barrels (typically 3" or 3.5"), and the majority didn't really feel any practical benefit, but noticed it's way louder LOL!

So, I'm going to pass on the hassle, and leave by PM9 just as Kahr shipped it.

Thanks for the replies folks!
