I have heard a lot of people over the years claiming that the moon landings were a government hoax.Personally,I believe that we made it and phooey on the Russians.I propose a new endeavor for NASA.I know that they have looked at Mars with more than a little yearning but I think my idea may appeal to them even more. Why not try a trip to the Sun? I know that the first thing out of some of the naysayers mouths will be that the spaceship will be burnt to a crisp long before it reaches its` destination but I have a solution for that.We could go at night.

I think if they time it right it would work perfect. Those rocket scientist are really smart at figuring that timeing stuff out so it could be pretty easy.
They'll have to get some of them flash cubes for their cameras so we get some good pictures.
Your a wizard Dietrich. Where would we be without guys like you thinking up these good ideas.

Brilliant, simply brilliant....Think of the money we could save on sun screen alone...I could even take my shades off....

That might be a negative. Without sunscreen what would Wynn offer to smear all over the bikini clad bodies down at his beach. He'd have to think up a new scam. I know he only does it as a public service of course.

After the first landing I saw the interview with a 100 year old former slave. He said there's no way we did that, his reasoning.... they'd fall off! He was long on common sense just short on scientific knowledge.

That's just the kind of forward thinking, problem solving we need in this country right now. Maybe you should email your resume to NASA. :D

Didn't NASA get changed out to a Diplomatic position? They go to third world and Middle East countries to help build up self esteem, and promote science. Thought thats what I heard.

I'm kind of with Stephen Hawking on needing to get into space and not leave all of our "eggs in one basket".

Right now, WHEN, not IF the Sun goes nova, we're all toast... mankind is gone... if we haven't already destroyed ourselves with nukes, chemicals, or biological weapons... or even "improvements" gotten out of hand. If a large enough asteroid, meteor, or any other cataclysm befalls our planet... we're all toast.

We need to continue our progress into space... and it's criminally foolhardy to be dependent on anyone else... other countries to get into space.

Just hoisting weapons into orbit or snagging a good-sized asteroid to turn it into a kinetic energy weapon has gotten too easy with too many not-so friendly countries trying to get into space. Too many fat and DUMB people are content to let the government control their entire lives with all of their "needs" taken care of by the increasingly tyrannical federal government. The bunch in control now would like to tear down the producers and get everybody on the dole, so they... the elite... can "take care of everyone", as they best know how.
If capitalism is destroyed and any attempt to profit from labor is stopped, who will grow the food or make the stuff we all have become accustomed to?? pretty soon we'll have to import everything that the government can't force people to make, because there will be no incentive to excel in anything because you won't wind up with anymore than the unproductive ones awaiting the government's benevolence.
Once the elite are firmly in power, their vision will require trimming the number of unproductive people to feed... as has happened with every Marxist/Communist attempt at "Utopia". That was even attempted in this country... trying to adopt radical Eugenics programs that were popular for a while in Europe.
The people are just not a high enough caliber for the Elite... they want to improve their subjects. Goodbye useless old people, chronically sick, infirm, etc. Everyone will be measured against the Elites' ideal and the ones that make the cut will be provided for. The others will get less support or cut off completely from any benefits... maybe even "eliminated".
Look at history... there are plenty of examples where the "Elite' weren't content with just providing for their subjects, but wanted to "improve" the quality of them as well.

Gee, how did I get to this point??

I'm really worried about a total shift to focus on an entitled populace and cutting back on defense and entrepreneurial development that keeps our country dynamic and prospering.

We already don't promote achievement in education or sports when it comes to the government school system. They encourage mediocrity and selfishness with all of the anti-competitive promotion of "self-esteem" and "diversity".

Too many children are floated along until they get to college and find they can't read or write well enough to keep up with or even qualify to gain entrance along with the motivated students who didn't just sit around listening to how great they were and having everything given to them.

I grew up an avid science fiction reader from the time I discovered that reading was fun... by the end of first grade. I think about the future of our country and our human race, and I'm really worried... about the near future and the distant future. I can't see us progressing as a race on our present course.:(

End of "rant" for now. :typing: :blah:

The sun's a bit small to go supernova by a factor of 20 or so. For a nova you need a binary system which we ain't got. If you're still around in about five billion years, you might want to run out an pick up some SPF 1,000,000 sunscreen though. The sun will be about ready to become a red giant, and it's atmosphere will extend beyond the orbit of earth.

As far as the anti-capitalist sentiment in DC, remember we can neuter those guys in less than six weeks, if the voters will get off their lazy behinds, and vote for anybody without a d after their name.

I didn't say Super, and I don't think Humans will be around a few thousand or even a few hundred years from now... decades?? Before I'm through with this "mortal shell".

An alien race of explorers might happen along any day now and decide that we need eradication like cockroaches.

Dang! I almost fell out of my chair reading the Wiki' entry on novas... way too much information. I couldn't stay awake long enough to see if there was a binary system close enough to affect us.... ZZzzzzz....:rain:

Dang! Can't even get a large page of smilies with this malware warning crap! :(
