This has really turned out to be a great home defense gun. Old Beretta 1200f (same platform as the military Police 1201fp) inertia, few parts. VERY light and soft shooting, barrel cut to 20". I place a over sized bolt handle and finally found a way to mount a Red Dot on a vented Rib. (Meadowbrook-Great Customer Service.) Also the Burris has a excellent cover pictured in the bottom pic. This gun has very few parts and is utterly reliable with any kind of ammo.
By the way, Meadowbrook sells the mount separately or you can buy a package deal with a Red dot of your choice.

That's a dandy looking shotgun. I've always preferred a pump but then I started shooting trap long long ago using an over/under. Then I tried my trusty pump for old times sake and guess what, I forgot to pump. It's been long enough I'd probably be ok now but that auto would fill the bill nicely.

I'm a pump and side-by-side guy myself, though I did carry a Beretta auto when I was in the sandbox. 8 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber at all times. For hunting and home defense I prefer an Rem 870, and for nostalgic reasons I break out my dad's old Stevens side-by-side to hunt with now and then.

When friends ask me what shotgun to purchase. I have always said, get the Mossberg MDL 88. Yep, a $199.00 shotgun. IMO one of the best value deals in the world of shooting. Check out this torture test.

I have that shotgun and it’s as rugged as it is simple. Paid $175 for it (and $50 of that was a gift card I got for Christmas.) As they said though the recoil is substantial, probably because it is so light. It’s the only shotgun I own except for a 1925 single shot 16 gauge used by great grandad as his squirrel gun.

I've always had the Mossbergs. The department of course wanted the Remingtons. I much preferred everything about the Mossberg myself. I'm a big fan of their old 22 rifles too. Had about 10 before the flood.

One of my favorites is the Mossberg 500 18 1/2" barrel and in 20ga. Also have a slug barrel for it.

That's exactly what I have. Mine is a 12, have a 32'' and an 18'' with rifle sights. Also have a 28'' modified barrel. It will do most anything I guess.
Often wished I had a 20 to go with it but never happened. Don't shoot shotgun much these days, actually haven't for years. Back in the day I shot pretty much every weekend. Both days. Trap and Duck Tower, had a blast.

I've always been a Mossberg pump guy.
500 with a pistol grip and Federal Tactical slugs for a first gun.
Then upgraded to a 590 Shockwave with a 14" Heavy Barrel.
Added a 590-A1 aluminum trigger group, Vang Comp speed safety, SX Big Dot front sight, 400 lumen tactical light and Mesa Tactical side saddle.
With gunsmith pump action and trigger job.
It's loaded with full power Federal LE12700 1325 fps buckshot.
I've patterned the gun with various loads and that Flight Control Federal stuff is amazing!
Lots of rounds, big variety, never ever malfunctioned - what a surprise LOL!

Nice scatters there King! Was looking at the shorty shells featured in the American Rifleman and got me wanting a semi-auto. I’m skeered of cycling issues though. Don’t want to get something I have to put a buncha bux into to get it to run the shorties. Gotta do more research. Looks like you got your stuff figured/sorted out well.

Here is a under rated shot 20" barrel that I fell in love with. Started using it for deer hunting about 4 years ago. And I have put a lot of ammo through this gun. A lot of buckshot doing all kinds of different patterns with different loads. It is very quick to pull up for a fast running deer. I prefer the single trigger because it is fast and the GREAT thing about this is the ability to change out chokes. I have a number of after market chokes that I use. Turkey/Deer etc. You can really reach out with the Chokes. Lol, even use a Fastlane to shoot 20ga. Inertia simplistic. No fancy engraving, utilitarian, No ejectors just extractor. Nice Turkish Walnut stock.(Beretta/Mobile chokes)

My 88 has run as it should from the first shot. My problem with most every long gun is my short arms. The only 2 add/changes was an adjustable, recoil reducing butt stock and a slip on Limb Saver.

Have you thought about cutting the stock down? I know a few folks that have bought the Bantam.

Doesn't Mossberg make a junior size also. Used to be you bought the Junior and when the time came they would send you a full size buttstock. Might be too short. Probably a bunch of them out there laying around. I too prefer a short stock, most factory stocks are too long for me.

Youth long guns generally fit me correctly. At the time I wanted a home defense 12 gage and I knew that the adjustable recoil reducing butt stock for the 500 would fit the 88. I looked at cutting the stock one but I felt it wouldn’t work for me. At that time there wasn’t much for replacement butt stocks for shotguns. Now days I could go a number of different ways.

Gosh I love this gun. Had it out this PM. What a versatile shotgun. I shot just about everything. All kinds of buck shot, bird shot, and a lot of 20ga buck. The four Buck did really nice groups with a Improved cylinder choke. at 7-10 yds. (Federal Premium Personal Defense 4 buck 24 pellets using a 20ga adapter) Also shoots the Shortie slugs with tight groups with a modified choke. We were shooting a lot of 00 buck of various brands at 25 yds and great groups. I took some pic's will post later this week. Recoil is mild on this gun even with high velocity 12 ga 00 buck. Also easy to shoot from the hip like a Shockwave. 20" barrel.

Here is a interesting target. Using the 12ga Stoeger OV with a 20ga shell, quickly followed by a Shorty 7 1/2 , at 7 yds. Interesting in that some will say a inertia OV will not fire the second round. This Stoeger has no problem. Went on to shoot more different siizes of 20 ga.
I am going to buy a 45 colt adapter and see how well that shoots.

In 2005 my running bunch took up heading out to West Texas (about 330 mile drive for us) for 4-5 days annually to dove hunt. I started out shooting my older Beretta AL2 12 gauge and did only fair, then tried to shoot SxS guns but really stunk. I knew a previous shoulder injury was really limiting flexibility chasing moving targets and had even considered chopping the stock on the AL2 - I knew that would be a bad move to tamper with an original P. Beretta gun. I ended up in 2011/2012 buying a Mossberg 500 "Bantam" - 20 ga with 22" vent ribbed barrel, choke tubes and the junior length stock for reduced LOP. My shot to kill ratio immediately jumped from about 35% to over 50% from being able to actually move as fast as the targets for a change.
I never understood why shotguns, generally have a 14.5+/- inch LOP, and are most likely used on erratic moving targets ..... then rifles generally have a 13.5+/- LOP and used mainly on either semi-stationary targets or moving targets having a little more predictable movement.

Here is a previous outing with the Stoeger with a Aguila shorty Mini slug at 25 yds. The top shots I was shooting the head. First attempt, standing position. I have not shot very many of these shells. I did have a new order come in see how they perform.

The little gun that can.
Anyone have a bug out shotgun. I love the single shot midland.
9mm at 25 yds with bead sight (Midland 12ga 18" barrel weight 4 1/2 lbs. The camo wrap does a few things. Provides camo and a super grip that is firm and soft. I use this gun for long treks into the swap for deer and turkey and it performs.

Lol, weighs only 4 1/2 lbs equipped with Mobile chokes. get great groups as good as any I own with buckshot at 25 yds.

Excellent, We have been shooting the Panther M4 heavily for the past few weeks, just a terrific firearm. . As I mentioned I love a short barrel for Woods and swamps. Hard to find a 18" with chokes. (Turkish Winchester)
The only down side of the Panther M4 is like the Bellini M4, on the heavy side. It is going to my son who loves it. I just ordered a new Winchester. (Turkish)
Ordered this for Buckshot. Most of the deer I shoot are within 30 yds. (We cannot use anything but buckshot in the South)
