I have tried real Hard Ringo to be the good Shepard Tried real hard and go along with the Red Dots. But way too many years of honing point and shoot skills. However just put a BIG DOT on my Beretta APX carry. Seriously, I think this is a much better alternative. It is big, easy to see, easy to find target. JMHO. (and it sure shows up well at night, and no batteries to boot)
Oddly enough, this is the Pico sight by Big Dot.

I like a red dot on my AR carbine but never could warm up to one on a pistol yet myself. I like to level the front sight to the rear sight, put it on target, and pull the trigger.

At the moment my eyes still let me do that, but I have been thinking about a red dot on my main house pistol. But I usually have a crimson trace railmaster with a green dot laser so I don’t know that I need the red dot sight but I am still thinking about it.

The only thing I have any optics on are rifles, and those that have them are for hunting big game where shots at 300+ yards are expected. I do have an old Redfield on an old Mossberg .22 that came with the rifle. I need to break that one out and put a few rounds through it just for fun once the snow quits falling. We just got 4-5 inches the last couple of days and have anywhere from 10 inches to 2 feet coming up in a couple of days.

No optics on handguns for me either.
The Ruger Max 9 I bought recently has a slide ready for a reflex type sight if a plate is removed, but it is gonna stay on.

I like to practice with a Laserlyte muzzle laser, and it’s satisfying to try point shooting and having the laser print right where I aim; gives me great confidence. Sights? Pfft. In a crunch, I probably won’t even notice the sights.

Agree 100% on practicing point shooting. If I am trying to hit the bullseye, I'll use the sites. More times than not I just practice point shooting because odds are if I need to shoot there won't be time for lining up sights.

That is the main key, practice with what you believe is a realistic distance you would encounter in a defense situation. And I feel that distance will be 7 yds or less. A distance that you do not even need sights. Your focus is on the bad guy or target. The gun, from so much practice automatically goes to the target, there is NO aiming. There is no time. The sight I placed on the Carry will only be used for targets past 7 yds or further, more like 15 yds. (which I personally believe is a unrealistic distance in most shooting or attacks). Look at pocket guns, for years they did not even come with sights. And really not needed to begin with.
For years, I watched people shooing these small guns and almost 99% seemed to be target shooting them. A total waste of ammo IMO. I believe that is how companies started putting sights on them. People wanted them to assist in their target shooting.
Look at any sport, example baseball. A pitcher is focused on the catchers mitt. He has no sights other than his eye's, arm and hand. The fast draw to the target alone with honed skills of point shooting is much more a advantage than a Red Dot or even a sight.
I would love to see a study done of actual shooting. How many people actually used a sight at all when, in that split second from fear of death? I doubt many did.

Regardless of what others believe in the distance a real gun fight will happen. I have focused on the, what I believe is that distance from the chart below. The internet will now have you believe that you also must train at 60 yds as well. It could happen in a mall right?
A Police officer or Military Soldier in combat may benefit from a Red Dot. A enemy attack and shooting at multiple distances for example. I do not know. But I do not train for that. Heck ammo is expensive enough.

I have Big Dots on a couple firearms. Always liked them. I would like to try a set of Speed Sights, but they currently do not make them for any of my firearms. They look like they would really help with eyesight issues.

Have the same rifle. They work great on AR's. Military now uses them. Son wanted a stock Mil Spec AR only to train with as that is what they are issued for different qualifications. So he now has both sights. Have to say I like it. Like them on shotguns as well. He also prefers the Red Dot. The thing is to be skilled with both. Of course the Military Red Dot is about a grand. Same principal. I will be getting one as well. But might put a small scope instead.

I won a P365 380 with a factory mounted new generation Romeo dot. It's like cheating BUT when the SHTF I question my ability to find the dot quickly and execute the shot. At distance, the dot is extremely accurate. How many distance shots will I need? I never want to find out. I do really support the use of lasers and have one on a bedside P365 as well as my 340P

I would love to know more about the cop that shot the mall shooter in Allen, TX. He had mere seconds, the bad guy had a chest rig, the cop shot him in what looked to be his eye, and he went down immediately. Next time I am in Allen, I will note what they carry.

I have a couple of EOTechs with magnifiers on long guns. The only dot on a pistol is a 4moa on the BUL SAS race gun. 340 is correct about finding the dot. Takes a bit of muscle memory to pull the pistol up and quickly find the dot. With both eyes open to sight, it’s easy to lose the dot while focusing on the dot with both eyes. But it’s also not a problem using the weak eye. I’m cross eye dominate but can focus on the dot with either eye.

My only red dot. Just to see what all the fuss is about LOL!
It's 100% perfect co-witness.
So if it craps out who cares...
