Hello,

I recently bought a new P9 and ran into issues almost immediately. I will say that I took it straight out of the box and started shooting (Winchester 124 grain FMJ) without doing the prep procedure stickied here, I'm used to Glocks and Springfields. Ran fine for about 80-100 rounds, then the slide started prematurely locking back, at first every couple mags then eventually after every round. I stopped shooting, eventually got around to cleaning and lubing it then taking it back to the range, same issue. The slide release lever also stopped working when the slide locked back, it just wouldn't do anything and I'd have to push the slide forward manually.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Personally, given the fact that you did not do any pre prep and know the gun has tight tolerances, I would resume breaking it in. Watch for limp wristing and riding the slide. My first 380 did the same thing without a proper break in. I just keep shooting it and now runs perfect.

Has anyone else experienced this? What, not cleaning or following instructions? I'd also use some better ammo. WWB is on the weaker side. Helps if you have more power.

Big Ditto on that one!

Could you provide a little more detail? If the slide is locked back, how are you able to push it forward? Are you having to hold the slide release lever down and push the slide forward at the same time? Are you trying to release the slide with an empty mag? This doesn't sound like a break-in issue, but something doesn't add up.

I agree. The slide lock spring may have come loose and is out of adjustment. It's very difficult to release the slide with an empty magazine. I think it's designed that way so you know your empty.
I'd look closely at the slide lock spring orientation.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. The P9 is generally a very reliable pistol. I’m with Bawanna, sounds to me like a slide lock spring issue, either out of adjustment, broken, or maybe the slide lock is on top of the spring instead of under it (if that’s possible if it’s out of adjustment).

Sorry you are having problems with it but if I were you I would take it apart and give it a very thorough cleaning, oil all the spots in the instructions and use some good gun grease on the slide and very carefully put it back together using a little dab of grease on the slide stop pin and spring then rack the slide a few hundred times while watching TV then run 100 rounds of any name brand +p carry ammo down the barrel “yes I know it’s expensive” but it will break in your pistol which after that should run flawlessly but if not return it to Kahr on their dime and they will correct any problems and make it right for you…….
