View Full Version : Firing pin Protruding?

I picked up a CW9 today and when i got it home to do a strip and clean I noticed that the firing pin was ever so slightly out of the slide. If I ran my finger on it I could feel the tip of the pin and it could move back and forth fairly easily. None of my other firearms have the pin slightly sticking out...anyone else have this? I searched and couldnt find anything...

Have you tried pushing it back to the rear. It shouldn't protrude unless you push the striker block down to let it pass. If you grab the back and pull it to the rear it should stay back and not protrude at all. Maybe the striker block is gummed up or otherwise stuck somehow.
A little Jocko brake cleaner squirted in the clean out hole might be in order if you don't want to take the slide down and look things over.

I have a similar problem with my P380. It seems like when I clean it, if I neglect to test it after reassembly, the firing pin will stick out and stop the round from chambering when I rack it. If I test fire it after cleaning, the issue seems to take care of itself. I haven't disassembled the slide for cleaning but I have sprayed it with Hornady One Shot every cleaning.

if I touch it the pin will drop right back into the breach area. I also noticed that when unloaded, when I cycle the slide and then shine a pen light down the muzzle is fully retracted back, and then when I pull the trigger it the pin pops out, and doesnt drop back in till the slide is cycled again.

Was this a new gun or a used one? Wonder if the strike spring is there?

Do you mean the striker block spring?? That would be bad.
The little spring that is under the striker block.... See the uppermost part in the first photo. The center one is the striker bock with its spring protruding from the right side. Without that the gun's safety isn't safe! With the slide off, just push down on it and if it pops back up, the spring must be there.

nope...the strike block is there and I can feel the it locking in place and doing its job. if I push down on it it returns immediately. It will also block the striker from moving forward. Also...where is your post about slide disassembly? I wanna take it apart and make sure where the striker and spring is clean. Thanks!

i will try and snap some pictures, but I am not sure if my camera will get that close to it!

Boostedxt, I think you are right about tearing it down and I would not shoot it until it's fixed. Some good instruction in this thread (http://kahrtalk.com/kahr-tech/197-how-detail-strip-kahrs-upper.html) and the link inside a post there.

To add to OldLincoln's info, that link takes you to a link to this... just use this link and go directly:

The lengthy instructions don't mention this handy and easily made tool...

I hope this helps.

I'd be looking at the striker spring gunked up or missing. I wouldn't be spraying One Shot or any other kind of lube in that striker channel. Just clean it, brake cleaner or whatever and leave it dry.

I took some compressed air and blew it out. The gun is brand new and never even had a round loaded into the chamber.

The striker spring is there....its all there!

It could be you just pushed the striker block down and the striker went forward as it should. You said when you looked down the barrel after racking the slide it was back where it belongs until you pulled the trigger. Sounds like theres really nothing wrong after all.
When the striker block is depressed the striker can move freely back and forth. When its up the striker shouldn't get past it unless the trigger is pulled or the stop is depressed.
I think its range time.
