Well Colonel, after you've unloaded the truck containing your goods at your local Walmart and then checkered yourself thru the self-checkout, you go up to their HR department with your personal armor, print out your own nametag, sign the waivers of pay and Walmart liability, and then station yourself at the doors. It's all very seamless, and straightforward.

In hindsight even though I always said when I retired I'd be a Walmart door greeter, it probably wouldn't work. Wife pointed out, I haven't been in a store (other than Lowes) in probably over 3 years. They remodeled our Fred Meyer store about 5 years ago and I've never been in it, no idea what it looks like inside. I got a good wife, she does the store stuff. Van sat unmoved for close to two months, can't remember the last time I bought gas and still have 1/4 tank. Life is good.

We’re a lot the same. When people ask me what I do since I retired, I tell them I do whatever I want. And the most important thing to me is that everybody just leaves me alone. I’ve spent the last two days working on valve cover gaskets to fix a leak on my truck and it was the most relaxing thing I’ve done in a long time. The ole truck is 18 years old this year and is finally starting to require a little maintenance.

Thank you! My sons 2006 Nissan Maxima headlight went out and not only did the stupid bulb cost over $100.00 but we had to pull the whole front bumper pad off and dig through the headlight assembly after putting the car up on ramps to remove the inner fender well and then to try and not touch the glass bulb to get it in it’s proper socket and after all that pain, get the plastic bumper pad back on using zip ties because the crappy plastic push pins disintegrated but we finally after a couple hours got his headlight working again………..Whatever happened to sealed beams, low and high for a few bucks that took at most 10 minutes to change out……..

They engineer cars that way so dealerships can make money in the service department. They start with the small stuff like the small plastic plugs they use to hold down trim, deck lids, wheel well liners, trunk liners, etc. Pop them out once or twice if you need to get at a bulb or wires and they're toast. Especially the ones in the trunk. They usually make light bulb replacing a PIA. I've been wanting to replace the front light bulbs on one of our vehicles but, it's older and a PIMA so; every year, I get out the cheap toothpaste, and polish the covers. It does help a lot. While everyone else is blinding me, I'm still using older headlights, which aren't blinding. That's my contribution to society.....................

Granddaughter is very upset.
She had recently picked out a very nice wedding dress for her nuptials in March. Of course it needed alterations to fit.
She called the shop this morning to inquire about picking it up - but got no answer, and discovered the place was closed & out of business (filed for bankruptcy).
She even went by there and saw it was empty.
No wedding dress and no $2,200 (her dad’s dough).

That’s sad right there and I feel bad for her, and I’d be choking over the loss of $2200 too.
I don’t know, maybe that’s why I’m the insensitive male and have told my 3 kids that I’d pay them money to elope, get married at the court house, and leave me out of it. Number 2 son did just that. I’m hoping if my daughter gets married she will do the same thing. Or charge admission to the guest of the wedding maybe.
I attended a wedding in Tulsa in October and I can’t imagine what it cost. The parents were old friends of ours, and the poor guy has 3 daughters and this was his first one to marry.

Down right disgusting. There must be a legal way to get your Property back. I do not see how you could list someone else's property as a asset in a Bankruptcy settlement. It seems like it could be a stolen charge.

When my father-in-law passed away 40 years ago and we were cleaning his house out, I found his late wife’s 2 carat diamond solitaire ring hidden away inside the turntable compartment of his combo console.
Goodwill was supposed to pick it up the next day.

They are fast becoming our nannies, so I wouldn't be surprised to see two buttons labeled as such in future cars.
In my truck, driving in the rain the other day, the digital dash kept telling me that I had a dirty windshield, and the anti-collision disabled light came on and stayed on until I got home and turned the truck off. Next day, dry outside and I take my truck to town. Apparently the windshield fairy cleaned my windshield overnight because there were no more messages about a dirty windshield. If they're going to put anti-collision cameras in a vehicle that are disabled by rain on the windshield, why bother? It only rains here 9 months out of the year.

Moved to North Dakota this fall. We heard that summers are fun and winter is beautiful. We think there is no more beautiful a place in the whole world!
December 8 - 6:00 PM It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses print. So romantic, we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow!
December 9 - We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had! Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks.
This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life!
December 12 - The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment! My neighbor tells me not to worry- we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible. Bob is such a nice man, I'm glad he's our neighbor.
December 14 - Snow, lovely snow! 8 inches last night. The temperature dropped to -20. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came back this afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish I wouldn't huff and puff so.
December 15 - 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska, after all.
December 16 - Ice storm this morning. Fell on my ass on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour, which I think was very cruel.
December 17 - Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. God! I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.
December 20 - Electricity's back on, but had another 14 inches of the damn stuff last night. More shoveling! Took all day. The damn snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but. they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I have to shovel or the city will have it done and bill me. I think he's lying.
December 22 - Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white **** fell today, and it's so cold, it probably won't melt till August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up to go out to shovel and then I had to piss. By the time I got undressed, pissed and dressed again, I was too tired to shovel. Tried to hire Bob-who has a plow on his truck-for the rest of the winter, but he says he's too busy. I think the ******* is lying.
December 23 - Only 2 inches of snow today. And it warmed up to 0. The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she, nuts?!! Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago. She says she did but I think she's lying.
December 24 - 6 inches - Snow packed so hard by snowplow, l broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the son of a ***** who drives that snow plow, I'll drag him through the snow by his balls and beat him to death with my broken shovel. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling, and then he comes down the street...at a 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I've just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents...but I was too busy watching for the damn snowplow.
December 25 - Merry f---ing Christmas! 20 more inches of the damn slop tonight - snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil. God, I hate the snow! Then the snowplow driver came by asking for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says I have a bad attitude. I think she's a fricking idiot. If I have to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to feed her through a chipper shredder.
December 26 - Still snowed in. Why the hell did I ever move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves.
December 27 - Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes froze; plumber came after 14 hours of waiting for him, he only charged me $4,400 to replace all my pipes.
December 28 - Warmed up to above -20. Still snowed in. The ***** is driving me crazy!!!
December 29 - 10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I ever heard. How dumb does he think I am?
December 30 - Roof caved in. I beat up the snow plow driver, and now he is suing me for a million dollars, not only for the beating I gave him, but also for trying to shove the broken snow shovel up his ass. The wife went home to her mother. Nine more inches predicted.
December 31 - I set fire to what's left of the house. No more shoveling.
January 8 - Feel so good. I just love those little white pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed ???

I've tried in the past to explain to a few people how you need to prepare for winter in the north. They didn't listen either. I've had a well pump crack on me, when the temps stayed in the negative with a wind chill for 2 weeks at a time. Luckily, I don't have sidewalks, and can snow blow at my leisure. A far cry from city life where I had to do sidewalks and the alley way with nowhere to go with the snow. Having neighbors putting snow on your property. Having to dig out plowed in cars parked on the street. Having neighbors give you that look when they're out shoveling, and you have a blower. It took me twice as long to do what I had in the city with zilch for property/land, compared to now, even with a 60 yd. lg. driveway. You need to keep all of your equip. in tip top shape..........................

I still have fond memories riding with my Dad in a 70s Pontiac Bonneville station wagon.
With the tailgate up, I'd sit on the tailgate facing forward holding on to the luggage rack with the wind in my face.
Good Times!

Ducks in heaven
Three guys die together in an accident and go to heaven. When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: Don't step on the ducks. If one starts quacking, they all do it, and the noise is terrible."
So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first guy accidentally steps on one.
Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest woman he ever saw. St. Peter chains them together and says "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this woman!"
The next day, the second guy steps accidentally on a duck, and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing, and with him is another extremely ugly woman. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first guy.
The third guy has observed all this and not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly woman, is very, VERY careful where he steps. He manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to him with the most gorgeous woman he has ever laid eyes on--a very tall, tan, curvaceous, sexy blonde. St. Peter chains them together without saying a word. The guy remarks, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"
The woman replies, "I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck."

Ads aside, those things happened. Nice that soldiers got to experience a little peace, and holiday spirit that the pols that start the wars enjoyed with their families. Far behind the front lines. When you think about it, less than a dozen people in history were directly responsible for the deaths of countless millions.

The Collie....
Just pulled in my driveway after a breakfast run to Mickey D’s and I noticed my neighbor had put up a sign in his yard advertising: 'Talking Dog For Sale.' I walked over to inquire about the whereabouts of this priceless pooch, when he informs me he’s tied up in the backyard. Slowly making my way past the back corner of the house and into the backyard I notice a nice looking Collie.
"You talk?" I said. “Yep" the Collie replied. After I recovered from the shock of hearing a dog talk, I said, “So, what's your story?"
The Collie looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping, I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running... but the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."
I was amazed. I walked back around front and ask my neighbor how much he wanted for the dog. “Ten dollars" he said.
“Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on Earth are you selling him so cheap?"
“Because he's a liar. He's never been out of the yard."

I had one similar to that when I was in construction for a big company. Pain in the backside but did the job.

A salesman friend had one, cost so much per minute, regardless of who, called who. Every once in awhile, I would call him on it, and say, "fifty cents", and hang up.

I was cleaning out an old file cabinet awhile ago and found an old cell phone bill from Cellular One; it was for $4.99 for one months bill and it included 30 minutes air time. Go over 30 minutes and it was .50 cents per minute!

Decades ago, my Motorola "brick" cost me $750 and after three years I got half back to buy a new one. Cost per minute for incoming was 50¢ but outgoing was free for the first 120 minutes /month so we all carried a beeper that told us who was looking for us. We learned to talk fast.

Now it makes sense! I always wondered why some people carried both. I didn’t have a cell phone till ‘96, and it was for my wife to call me at work, because calling me at the office number was undesirable for some reason.
I remember our first bill. The monthly service was maybe $32, but the junk fees and taxes jacked that way up, and I was pissed. No one told me about all the fees (my wife got us the service).
I sure do miss the simpler times.

Back in the cell phone early days, I had 2 phones on same number. I had the bag phone mounted in car and had small flip phone for when not in car. There was company [I believe in Georgia] that you would send phones to and they somehow calibrated them onto same number. I think it cost a $100 bucks. Later days phone companies got it to be ill-legal. The logic of 2 on 1 was just like extension phones in your house. Most houses had more than one phone.

Wife wouldn't let me add onto my man cave so out in the sawdust shop the other day I built me a rack to get some of the toys leaning up against other stuff out of the way. Worked out pretty good. Still need the addition, more wall space to hang Kahr posters and stuff ya know. Maybe room for a recliner.

You should anchor that Colonel. And put some sort of barrier across the front of it. We do live in earthquake country afterall. Looks great though!

It's surprisingly solid. It is attached to the metal cabinet. I did plan to put something across the front but ain't got there yet. Baby steps ya know? If we have a really big earthquake, it'll be a mess in there. We had one pretty good one while I was working at the bench in there. Concrete floor and felt like it rolled. My chair was rocking side to side. But somehow everything stayed where it started. Never could figure it out. At first I thought the neighbor ran into the house with his motorhome. He came over shortly after and asked if we were ok.

I have only experienced one earthquake.
That was in 1958 when we lived in Taipei, Taiwan.
Was in class at the old original Taipei American School when the overhead light fixtures started swinging wildly and the floor was rolling.
We kids looked outside in the grassy courtyard to see the water sloshing out of the “moat” around Senior Island in the middle of it.
Then the quake subsided after maybe five minutes.
Really a weird sensation.
During the Nisqually quake I was working from home. Looked out the window and saw the street moving up and down. Or maybe it stayed put and my house was moving?
