Hey all I have a chance to swap my stainless PM 45 newer style with a slightly longer slide for an older style with the shorter slide the oldest style gun is in excellent shape has a DLC finish and night sights that are still plenty bright.
Is there anything to be aware of on the older style PM 45s with the shorter slide from the functionality standpoint? I thought I read somewhere that the oldest style PM 45 but the shortest slide and some kind of a frame battering issue with a slide would shoe up the frame or the rails or something like that is that the case on all the older style guns or just some of them?
My current stainless PM 45 is my third one I've owned over the years and they've all been the newer style ones I never had any problems with them as far as reliability or problems go. I'm going to field strip it when I look at it tomorrow is there anything I need to look for as far as abnormal wear on the slide or the frame? In general of the oldest style PM 45s is reliable is the newer style with a slightly longer slide? Thanks for any help with this.

I've had my old style PM45 for a lot of years, never had any of the issues you mention. Many actually prefer the older style over the new tapered nose. If you want black go for it. I'm partial to the stainless myself but I have weird days sometimes.

Thank you for the fast response sir. I usually prefer stainless myself funny enough but I've always liked the black DLC look of Kahr arms guns. As I live in South Florida humidity here is bad most of the year and I think the DLC would hold up better.
Also I've never had a problem with any cons pistol I found eight to date off and on I've owned a P9 a PM9 a cm40 a cw40 couple of PM 45s along the way including this one and an mk40. The only problem I had is to see I'm 40 broke its mag follower a couple of times but the gun still function fine I didn't realize one of the Mac followers was broke till I got it home and took it apart to clean it.
Funny enough I've got a soft spot for a subcompact guns in 45 and the PM 45 fits that Bell better than anything else I'm aware of. I also picked up the other day a Glock 39 and 45 Gap which a couple of my local shops carry full metal jacket ammo for routinely and I picked up some jhp self defense sample online that should be here this week. With the exception of the Glock being slightly thicker than the slide it's almost the same exact size gun is a PM 45 although the PM 45 is thinner they're both very easy to conceal and I got to say a soft shooting is the PM 45 is I think the Glock 39 and 45 Gap is just a slightly smoother shooter both great guns.
I know the 45 Gap round is a bit of an oddball but it's available online and a bunch of commercial ammo makers still make ammo for it I also have a friend an older gentleman locally who's a very accomplished reloader so I just saved my brass for cheaper range practice oddly enough the Glock 39 is between a lot of EDC duty since it's past all its function test. I do prefer the Kahr arms trigger to the Glock.
Like I said I just thought I like oddball things but if I'm not bowl myself LOL I just thought it would be cool to have a Glock pistol and I'm round that was actually created by glock by speer. I have other handguns and common mainstream caliber so to speak so the ammo availability wasn't really a big turn off for me being as I can get it online and I didn't get target ammo locally. I previously owned a Smith & Wesson shield 45 and I actually sold the shield to buy my current PM 45 cuz it's a much smaller gun I think maybe it's the way the design by kahr with the offset feed ramp because the shield 45 is a great weapon don't get me wrong but it's much bigger than it needs to be for a single staff 45 especially when you compare it to a PM 45 on my Glock 39.
Anyway thank you for your help and you have a safe and happy New Year.

I forgot to ask in my last reply is there a particular reason why some people prefer the older PM 45 is because it's slightly shorter concealability maybe? I'm just curious I've read that on here a few times that some people like the older blood nose pm9s maybe it's just an aesthetic thing? Anyway thank you for the help sir I appreciate it have a happy New Year.

I don't see a concealment advantage, there's only like an 1/8th '' difference or less. Think it's just the look. Heard more about it with the PM9 than the 45. Most called the early version the blunt nose. The later model might holster a bit better being tapered. Otherwise, everything is the same.

Oh ok cool good to know thank you sir. As a side note I'd love to see a K45 a metal framed kahr 45 would be cool.

Wouldn't we all, wouldn't we all.
Some just like a "blunt" nose better than one that is tapered or narrowed. Same goes for 1911 enthusiasts. And I'm a blunt nose fan of them as well. A lot of companies, especially high end ones (and Colt on their Defenders), seem to be gearing toward a thinner muzzle with a break between 3/4" or 1" back from it where the full width of the slide is narrowed. The Kahr version of that is not nearly as drastic, with the bevel starting between 3/16" and 3/8" back and then tapering to the muzzle. I prefer the blunt nose myself, but I really don't mind my newer style PM45 because it's one that starts nearly at the muzzle with its taper.

DAO, my Dan Wesson Valkyre has the forward slide bevel/break, DW calls it a carry cut (urban legend has it that the Browning Hi-Power started the trend, though they have a much longer version). Supposed to make it slightly easier to re-holster.
Yep, I can see the benefits of it from that perspective. Just not esthetically pleasing to my eye. Nothing wrong with it, and I'm sure that some things I find purty aren't so appealing to others. You know, like Chevy vs. Ford, blonds vs. brunettes. Those sorts of things. :)

I have the same taste. It’s why I like the looks of the C model Kahr’s more than the P models. It’s what also drew me to some of the full “dust cover” or fully railed 1911’s in the past. Some that I wish I still had.
