My first car was $200..........63 Impala......bought it before I had my license. By the time I got my license, it was a 327 ci. 4 speed, 4:11's, Holley 750, Edelbrock high rise, solid lifters, head work, race cam, Hooker headers. air shocks with Camino springs. Springed out clutch that took 2 legs to hold in. Nothing major but around 450 hp. Slowed it down after that one and got a $400 65 Galaxie with the 352-truck engine. 52,000 miles. A great outdoor movie car. The bench seat would go all the way back to the back seat. Fell asleep in that car numerous times. No power steering or brakes. Learned to drive stick in the old man's 66 Galaxie 500 with a 6 and 3 on the tree. Always liked that 3 on the tree....................

The car was custom painted burnt orange.
Had the factory spoiler on it.
Came with a Muncie 4sp, POSI, front disk brakes, Glass Packs, Gabriel Highjackers, US mags ...
Loved that car.
DMV suspended my license within 7 months of purchase
That's a much funnier story you will not get to hear...

Car looked very much like this one -

I had a Black 68 RS for a few years. None of that trick stuff on it. Beautiful black paint job. Couldn't take it anywhere without some ass door dinging it even when I parked away from everybody. Had it two or 3 years I guess, think I only put about a 1000 miles on it if that. Mostly lived in the garage and admired.
In high school I had a 66 Mustang. Drove it all the time. Great car, blew it when I sold that one.

My first was a '62 Impala. But it was much tamer than yours, with a 283 and a slush box. Sure had a lot of good times in that car. And at that stage of my life.

On the east coast we had the A@M Raceway.....street racing at it's best! We all used to go their Friday nights to street race. I remember a State Trooper who's motto was....."if you can out run me you won't get a ticket". He had a HEMI Mopar.

I grew up in a small high desert town in California called Lancaster.
But about 60 minutes away was Van Nuys Boulevard

Oh man, you brought back memories of the party weekends of my youth. Good times even though I could have gotten thrown in jail. But, local cops were cooler back then too. As long as you weren’t bothering anyone and there were no complaints, they let the party continue and just said be careful. And if you were with a girlfriend they for sure would not bother you. People watched out for each other then too where I lived. It’s not like that anymore.

Love the '67 Camaro RS - top of my 'would be cool' list. Best of the Camaro tail ends, imo, and that clean, unhidden, single-lens front. So elegant.
But I'm not so high on Mack Brown, for leaning on the pollsters on behalf of his Longhorns, and displacing my beloved Aaron Rodgers-led Cal Bears out of their Rose Bowl bid. What rankles most is that the Austin branch of my extended family didn't even care; they've been to so many big bowls. My Bears, on the other hand, last sniffed the Rose Bowl in 1959. Mack Brown's reputed to be an upstanding, likeable gentleman, but *ugh*.
Mack Brown is not on my Christmas card list because he rested on his lazy laurels by mailing it in after losing to USC in the 2010 Rose Bowl.
That plunged the Longhorns into 12 years of darkness. A pox on him. Most Longhorn fans feel the same way because of his ungracious departure after being fired.

Having said that, tough luck for Rodgers and his complaining, especially after getting mud holed 45-31 by Texas Tech (whom Texas had whupped 51-21 regular season) in the Holiday Bowl that season.
That enabled the first of huge back-to-back thrilling Texas Rose Bowl wins by arguably the best college quarterback ever, Vince Young.😄
However, Cal got revenge and has scoreboard over Texas with a two game winning streak 2014/2015. 🤮

Anyhoo…. My driveway in 1971: 1958 Olds 88, 1967 Malibu coupe…..

Yup, Yup, really sad on so many levels.
Seems like those days are gone forever... :(

Yeah, pasture & barn parties were a thing when I was in high school. No problems out there.
Even some faculty members were invited - guess they came for the free beer.

A couple of years ago a high school kid in the house behind us was pretty dumb to throw a kegger one Friday night while his mom was on shift at a local hospital.
It wasn’t really noisy, as most of them stayed inside, but inevitably some other neighbor complained.
The sheriff deputies raided the place about 11pm and the kids spilled out of that place in all directions over wood privacy fences like a bunch of cockroaches when a light is turned on…including my back yard. They left both my side yard gates open in their hasty departure. Lol
About an hour later I could hear the very irate mom chewing out her son from way over on their street.
That house was totally dark for a couple of months, then it was sold.
Lesson learned for that young dude.

We used to drive down to Santa Monica beach and bodysurf at midnight!
Lights off and no fires the cops would leave us alone.
After watching Jaws we all stopped doing that!

. . .especially after getting mud holed 45-31 by Texas Tech (whom Texas had whupped 51-21 regular season) in the Holiday Bowl that season.

Exuberant Cal team who had broken the 45-year Rose Bowl drought (~the~ Big10/Pac10 rivalry bowl), only to get dumped in the ratings by Brown's calling in favors with his voter friends. The team dejectedly mailed it in to the Holiday Bowl. A team loaded with NFL talent, including:
Aaron Rodgers, Marshawn Lynch, JJ Arrington, Justin Forsett, Garrett Cross, Craig Stevens, Ryan O'Callahan, Lorenzo Alexander, Brandon Mebane, and lots more.
Dark times in Cal Bears history. Pox on Mack Brown.
