I hear that…..am all of a sudden Jonesing for a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt.
(4.62” barrel of course)
Only have one other gun in that caliber, but it is an unfired Colt commemorative and just two boxes of ammo.

Tell your trophy wife I said it was ok. Get it and maybe we'll split a case of 45 Colt if we can find one. Just don't give her my address or contact info please.

We live in turbulent uncertain times.
The future looks potentially dark as the world struggles to find it's way.
I think we all want to feel young again.
To live in simpler times with basic clear values.
I grew up watching Westerns and find they embody these times and values.
When I watch them today I feel young again and good about the world :)
We all know the classics.
But IMHO there are lesser known movies well worth our time.
I just finished watching "The Way West" with Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, Richard Widmark & Sally Field.
What's your favorite lesser known underrated Western worth watching again in 2024?

I grew up watching any Western that was aired, due to my pop’s love of ‘em. Also read a few of his Louis L’Amour books, which he had stacks and stacks of. Yes, those hearken to better times.
I can’t believe how many times I try to start a movie or show these days, only to quickly lose interest. They’ll wait until the 2nd, 3rd episode, or part way through something that started out to be rather good, only to then slip in gayness, wokeness, etc. and I lose interest.

My dad and I were and are devout Louis L/Amour fans. He thought he had every book he wrote, had them numbered. I've found a few he didn't have. My son had to do a book report in school, teacher said not good they are all alike. Changed her mind when I sent her a copy of Last of the Breed. About time to reread them again, been a long time. I agree on TV, with the hundreds of channels, and Netflix and Paramount and all of them, sometimes I can't find a thing worth watching. Used to be able to search for old movies but that don't seem to work anymore. And now worst of all started on the 1st a local channel that had Rawhide, High Chapparal, and Cheyenne every morning, now has some foreign language show. It's just not right. I need my Rowdy Yates in the morning ya know? I'm sending a message to DISH right this moment.

I just happen to be watching The Rifleman, one of my favorites when I was a kid. Haven't seen it in a few years but they are finally showing it on one of the stations we get. My wife has been watching Wagon Train and has most of the recorded. We did the same with Wells Fargo, Alias Smith and Jones, and a few others. There's not much on TV anymore, but we do watch a number of old westerns on a couple of channels. I forget the name of it, but we watched an old John Wayne movie last night made in 1941 where he is a moonshiner. Watched it a number of years ago and it is still a good movie. Even watched True Grit a couple of nights ago.
As to the original post, one movie I can never pass up is The Cowboys. I think my mom brought me and my brothers to see it in the theaters when we were kids. Another on is Jerimiah Johnson. Love both of those movies.

My Western repertoire is kinda weird. Blazing Saddles, Kung Fu, The Harvey Girls (“…On the Acheson, Topeka, and the Santa Fe…”), True Grit, to name a few. Bonanza and Ponderosa were in syndication at 7pm I think, when I was a kid. F-Troop?

Colonel, good luck with the DISH service!
I think there’s still a few of those Louis books up at my pop’s place, in a back room stacked amongst stacks of all kinds of other stuff. I don’t think he will make it too much longer. When that time comes, I only want a few things outta there and those books are one of them.
Army, That was crazy! Liked the “flying squirrel” references in the comments. Hope they throw away the key.

Classic Westerns on TV -
The Rifleman
Wanted Dead or Alive
Branded
Gunsmoke
Bonanza
The Big Valley
Just off the top of my head
As others have said - Just about any John Wayne / Clint Eastwood movie.
And an underrated and little known personal favorite is Duel at Diablo.

Ah, James Garner… Loved Rockford Files too! If you asked me as a teen who my favorite actor was, it was him. Partially because of his being a tough guy (although he had played some goofy, whimpy role parts at times) with a cool car, but also because my Dad looked soooo much like him.
I’ve seen The Rifleman mentioned a few times. I was once sick with a nasty cold that had me in bed for about 2 weeks straight (I don’t go to doctors unless I’m about to die) so I binge watched every episode from start to finish. Being able to watch on demand would be one of the few benefits of living in “the modern age” in my opinion.

My understanding is that before the Iraq war the A10 was going to be decommissioned as obsolete!
After they tore through countless armor and supplied invaluable close air support during that conflict.
The real value of the aircraft was realized

I'm from the same era. My sibs and I can still sing parts of the F-Troop theme song, and we had many opportunities on our family trips to quote the medicine man on how the tribe got their name: "Where the Hek-awi?"
I enjoyed Rawhide (Clint Eastwood).
Don't know why my folks took us to the theatre to see From Noon Till Three (Charles Bronson), but I was smitten with Jill Ireland. We also saw Winterhawk (vague memories of that one), and Blazing Saddles. Mel Brooks claims that the "You're sucking on my elbow" line was left on the cutting room floor, but it was included in the version that we saw that day in the theatre.
Quigley Down Under & Unforgiven are modern flicks that I occasionally re-watch
Joss Wedon's Firelfy is my favorite space western.

Not really a Western, but City Slickers was pretty good. And Jack Palance did play a good role in it, (perhaps his last?).
How about Johhny Yuma was a Rebel? Not the name of it, but lyrics from the theme song.
Also liked The Guns of Will Sonnett (No brag, just fact).

Back when I was in the Navy, spending long boring watches down in the engine rooms, naming all the characters in the Magnificent 7, was an often asked trivia question. I always struggled with the guy looking for the gold.

In the original “Home Alone” movie Kevin went to the grocery store and bought quite a bit of stuff which came out to be under 20 bucks and some really smart feller figured out that same amount in 2022 dollars would cost $44.00 and then one year later in 2023 that same amount of groceries would be $72.00……….It’s Bidenomics folks and it’s working…….

I just ordered an AR upper because it was on deep discount ($149) and I have enough parts to build a lower. Since the lower is the actual gun and I only ordered the upper, that doesn’t count as a new gun, right? Just have to make sure I catch the UPS man before the wife can see the box and ask me what’s in it.

I never was so lucky.....my old dog Kodi would rat me out all the time! Anytime I got something new Kodi would either stare at it or where it was was. Kodi would sit in front of safe [or where ever item was] and STARE at item or area. Once wife acknowledge Kodi and say "oh is there something new", Kodi would look at me and walk away! Anything new gets noticed immediately. They have subtle ways of telling you things. After a while, you learn all of their subtle communications. I've got a tapper. I've owned, shot and concealed carried handguns for decades.
Night sights have been pretty much standard on carry guns.
Electronic sights were mostly relegated to competition race guns.
But the times they are a-changin ...
New guns are being produced Optics Ready.
New optics have become smaller, lighter and more reliable than ever.
It seems the time for carry handgun optics has arrived.
I've been concerned about relying on optics with a carry gun.
And being an old school iron sight guy.
Worried about attempting to transition to optics.
Plus all the various features, reticles and colors seemed confusing.
Well I've finally taken the plunge and bought a HK VP9SK Holosun SCS Green Dot package.
The direct mount low profile sight is light, small and 100% co-witness with it's standard height iron sights.
Gun fits perfectly in my existing standard holsters.
Sight is solar powered with a 20K hrs rechargeable battery.
It seems to be made to always be on (no shake awake).
Triple recital options with auto brightness (that can be overridden).
I was able to just start using the optic without setting anything at all!
Watched a few videos on transitioning from irons to red dots.
Really like Jerry Miculek

Thanks for clarifying what OR means.
Glad you are happy with it Barth. Sounds like it hit the sweet spot for you in multiple areas. I like that it has standard height sights that co witness. Typically I’ve seen those skyscraper tall suppressor height sights needed to do so. Was a concern of mine (I’ve only tried out 2 with red dot’s in the past) if batteries ever ran out, or if the solar (had a 507c on one) crapped out, that the iron sights not be so tall. But… my go at the dots was not to my liking. I instead started training point & shoot, or instinctive shooting, not using sights at all. At defensive, cqc distances I’m good to go doing so. At longer distances I’m no ace, but can still hit a target using the sights. I’m amazed at the videos I watch of the competitive chooters, with dots, hitting tiny spinning targets and such and doing so at Miculek type speed. Even putting multiple shots on target at such speeds. Can’t imaging the cost of having to use sooooo much ammo, even if reloading. Again, happy you love it. Oh what a feelin!
And that VP sure looks sexy!!! Here's the one I had. Not OR, but made it a real soft shooter with the comp!

Correct - it is on all the polymer frame Kahrs.
It is kinda awkward for me to hold the witness marks in place with each other. Otherwise the disassembly procedure is simple.
Just follow the factory manual videos faithfully.

Yes sir, I was aware of that lil tick mark from past Kahr’s. I just thought it to look odd/unsightly to put it right in the middle of a serration. Again, not complaining too much though. What a deal!
I usually just look at the little hump on top of the slide stop/take down pin and align it with the corresponding spot in the slide. Thanks for letting me know that info though and thanks again for telling me about the good deal.

Headache
“The doctor said, “Joe, the good news is I can cure your headaches. The bad news is that it will require castration. You have a very rare condition, which causes your testicles to press on your spine, and the pressure creates one hell of a headache. The only way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles.”
Joe was shocked and depressed. He wondered if he had anything to live for. He couldn’t concentrate long enough to answer, but decided he had no choice but to go under the knife.
When he left the hospital he was without a headache for the first time in 20 years, but he felt like he was missing an important part of himself. As he walked down the street, he realized that he felt like a different person. He could make a new beginning and live a new life. He saw a men’s clothing store & thought, “That’s what I need – a new suit.”
He entered the shop and told the salesman, “I’d like a new suit.” The elderly tailor eyed him briefly and said, “Let’s see … size 44 long.” Joe laughed, “That’s right, how did you know?” “Been in the business 60 years!” Joe tried on the suit. It fit perfectly.
As Joe admired himself in the mirror, the salesman asked, “How about a new shirt?” Joe thought for a moment and then said, “Sure.” The salesman eyed Joe and said, “Let’s see, 34 sleeve & 16-1/2 neck.” Again, Joe was surprised, “That’s right, how did you know?” “Been in the business 60 years!”
Joe tried on the shirt, and it fit perfectly. As Joe adjusted the collar in the mirror, the salesman asked, “How about new shoes?” Joe was on a roll and said, “Sure.” The salesman eyed Joe’s feet and said, “Let’s see … 9-1/2 E.” Joe was astonished, “That’s right, how did you know?” “Been in the business 60 years!”
Joe tried on the shoes and they fit perfectly. Joe walked comfortably around the shop and the salesman asked, “How about some new underwear?” Joe thought for a second and said, “Sure.” The salesman stepped back, eyed Joe’s waist and said, “Let’s see… size 36.”
Joe laughed. “Ah ha! I got you! I’ve worn size 34 since I was 18 years old.” The salesman shook his head, “You can’t wear a size 34. A size 34 underwear would press your testicles up against the base of your spine and give you one hell of a headache.”

The Rod & Reel
A woman goes into the Bass Pro Shop to buy a rod and reel for her grandson’s birthday. She doesn't know which one to get so she just grabs one and goes over to the counter.
A Bass Pro Shop associate is standing there wearing dark shades.
She says, "Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?”
He says, "Ma'am, I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the counter, I can tell you everything from the sound it makes.”
She doesn't believe him but drops it on the counter anyway.
He says, "That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod with a Zebco 404 reel and 10-LB. test line. It's a good all-around combination and it's on sale this week for only $20.00.”
She says, "It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I'll take it!”
As she opens her purse, her credit card drops on the floor.
Oh, that sounds like a Master Card," he says.
She bends down to pick it up and accidentally farts. At first she is really embarrassed, but then realizes there is no way the blind clerk could tell it was she who tooted. Being blind, he wouldn't know that she was the only person around.
The man rings up the sale and says, "That'll be $34.50 please.”
The woman is totally confused by this and asks, "Didn't you tell me the rod and reel was on sale for $20.00?
How did you get $34.50?”
He replies, "Yes, Ma'am. The rod and reel is $20.00, but the Duck Call is $11.00 and the Bear Repellent is $3.50."

A farmer decided he wanted to go to town and see a movie. As he approached, the ticket agent asked, “Sir, what’s that on your shoulder?”
The old farmer said, “That’s my pet rooster Chuck. Wherever I go, Chuck goes.”
“I’m sorry, sir,” said the ticket agent. “We can’t allow animals in the theatre.”
The old farmer went around the corner and stuffed Chuck down his overalls. Then he returned to the booth, bought a ticket, and entered the theatre.
He sat down next to two old widows named Mildred and Marge.
The movie started and the rooster began to squirm. The old farmer unbuttoned his fly so Chuck could stick his head out and watch the movie.
“Marge,” whispered Mildred.
“What?” said Marge.
“I think the guy next to me is a pervert.”
“What makes you think so?” asked Marge.
“He undid his pants and he has his thing out,” whispered Mildred.
“Eh, don’t worry about it,” said Marge. “At our age we’ve seen ’em all.”
“I thought so too,” said Mildred, “but this one’s eatin’ my popcorn!”

I remember that. Learned to drive in a GMC pickup with 3 on the tree. My dad insisted I learn manual first. I told him I'd rather learn driving then we'll work on the stick. He didn't buy it. Loved that truck especially after I learned how to side step the clutch. Straight 6. Wish I still had it.
Little story......when I worked in the industrial supply warehouse the owner was a real swell down to earth guy. He'd be right out there sometimes with us getting dirty, setting up shelves etc. He drove a Ford Tempo or something ordinary. His wife convinced him he had money and should drive a nice car. He showed up in a Jaguar. One of them ones with the hood about 15 ft long. Real low slung. Anyhow after a short time it had a tire leak or something and he asked if I'd drive it up to the service state we used 2 or 3 blocks up the road to get it fixed. I was like yeah! So I go out and for the life of me I couldn't figure out the shift pattern, I found reverse, and a lower gear but was lost. I had to go back in and ask. He ended up taking it himself. A week or so later he asked me to come out to the car with him and he fired it up and asked if it was supposed to sound like that. It sounded like a Diesel with no oil, knocking bad. I told him now way, turn it off. It's seriously messed up. Towed it away and the nest day he showed up in a Ford Taurus. Loved that guy. Truly one of the good ones.

Don't forget, the straight front axle, and drum brakes with manual steering.
LOL, how could I forget?
I had to get the truck rolling to turn the steering wheel!
No radio at all.
I'm not even sure it had a heater?
Don't remember one.
Air Conditioning was Wind Wings!
Gauges were just Speedometer, Odometer, Gas and a Generator light.
That thing was a tank and nearly unstoppable.
Regularly would drive off into the open desert and have my girlfriend on the bench seat.

My son’s 1959 ride 25 years ago….
Greasy side down.
I had a 59 too, much rougher than that. I put a wood flat bed on the back. Was a 6, but put a 327 in it. Wish I still had it.

My brother and I used to borrow our dad's pickup all the time. It was a 283 with 3 on the tree. Needless to say we used to tear up the streets with it and "took out"
the transmission on a awesome shift to 2nd. Amazingly we convinced Dad to let us IMPROVE his truck by replacing tranny and adding a Hurst Mystery Shifter. We also added a pair of bucket seats. Surprisingly he liked it!

Was driving that 1960 F100 at night on the freeway in the San Fernando Valley with my teenage girlfriend at my side.
Forgot to mention there were no seatbelts it the truck either.
Had cars on either side of me and suddenly saw one of those big wooden spools for cable in my headlights right in my lane!
With no where to go, and no time to slow down, it was Brace for Impact!
The spool exploded as the F100 blew right through it!
The frontend was already dented up, but I couldn't see any real damage from the impact.
Try that in a modern vehicle!

The only truck I ever owned was one of the above in a custom paint job, nice wheels, bench seat and a 4 speed. 2.6 liter 4 cyl. Rated at only 105 hp., I swear it had much more than that. That thing motored. A collaboration with Mitsubishi. The only problem with them was the imported steel. They rusted more quickly because of the thinness of the metal....................I was at the tavern one night, having mugs of Octoberfest and shots of Yager. My truck is parked right out front looking all clean and shiny like I kept it. I'm contemplating life and looking out the large glass front window when all of a sudden, some guy comes flying out of the adjacent parking lot in a Toyota Land Cruiser and my truck disappears right in front of my eyes. The guy accelerated and hit it, pushing it down the street about 25 yds. He was trying to get away, but his whole front end was off the ground on top of my truck. Someone grabbed his keys out of the ignition. He couldn't even hold his arms on the steering wheel. Just plastered...............My truck was totaled; he didn't have insurance of course. They took his license away immediately until he showed financial responsibility. The jail was right across the street, so it was convenient for LE. I got pretty much full price for the truck, which was older by then. I had a friend in the autobody business, who fixed it up well enough to sell. I came out ok cash wise, but I lost a truck that I really liked. I'd buy another one, but I'd rustproof the @#^* out of it.

Oh man. I forgot about that on my 70 Chevy truck. You wrestled the steering wheel, and it did not have a hydraulic clutch either. Stop and go rush hour traffic gave a workout to the left leg. Now that I think about it that’s probably how I got my hernia.

I learned to drive at 11 years old in my dads road service truck, a 56 Ford F-100 3 on the tree and a 352 V8…..I must have put a thousand miles on that old truck driving it around the building and once in a while down the street when nobody was watching…….I wonder what happened to it and I would give anything to have it again and fix it up along with my mothers 60 T-Bird, pink with a white top and black & white seats…….I’m sure they and all the other cool cars from back in the day went to the crusher and were made into Kia’s and dishwashers and such and I suppose that’s the circle of automotive life but I sure wish I had them all back again……

I got my first car at 10. It was a 1950 Plymouth. I paid $10 bucks for it from money earned at my job working Saturdays at block factory. All us neighbor kids would load bricks from out of the oven onto pallet stacks. I bought car and drove it home and parked it in driveway. At Dinner Dad asked everyone "who's car is that in driveway", I raised my hand. He looked at me and said "park it behind the barn from now on". It was an all black 2 door. I ended up blowing up the engine. All of us kids in the neighborhood had cars and the Kennedy's let us drive them in their gravel pit which was next to a Town Forrest which had plenty of roads for *exploring [*racing each other]. Next up was a 56 Chevy then a 56 Nomad. Went through MANY cars in those early days :-] Car was like the one in picture.

I high school I'd buy cars for around $300.
Drive them for a while.
Fix them if I could.
Or junk the car for $100 and buy something else.
They were basically disposable and I went through a bunch.

You got me beat! But, I bought a 68 Firebird ram air 400, hood tach, working dealer installed clock and 8 track with Eagles Hotel California in it, with cold blowing a/c and front disc brakes for $2500 from the original owner. Left a note on the windshield, “I know it’s not for sale, but if you ever want to sell your Firebird I would LOVE to own it and would take super good care of it. Please save my number”. Little old lady (yes, it was green) called me a year later. Said she was getting a bit too old to handle it and wanted something modern. I went to meet her, struck a deal at $3k. Went to the bank and applied for a loan. That night I went back by to show it to my brother (she had it parked in the parking lot at the condo’s she lived in). I noticed where the “Firebird” emblem was on the drivers front was cracked, paint was scuffed and a tiny dent. I called her and asked her what happened as that had not been there when I went and looked at it. She said, “I’ve had that car for X years and have never been in an accident. Today somebody pulled into the spot next to me and bumped it when they did”. I said mam that’s going to cost me to have it fixed. Can we take some off the $3k. She said yes, I’m sorry. I meant to call you. We settled on $2,500. I put a ton of miles on that car and only sold it when I needed a truck for work. Sooooooo wish I still had it. Had no idea back then what it would be worth today.

The new Florida Building Code says you don’t have to write it on the door, for the one-holer bathrooms.
Makes sense, really - if you gotta go, and someone’s hogging the men’s room, why not use the “other” one?
BirdsThaWord

Agreed! I’ve used one holer’s in the past at bars/eating joints plenty of times. Why wait when there’s a perfectly useable one right there and the door can be locked to prevent a woman from getting weirding out.

One time we went to a very expensive steak restaurant and after a few malted beverages I needed to go but the bathrooms had weird signs like bulls and heifers on the door and somehow I made a mistake and entered the heifer bathroom and was confused at first because there were no urinals on the wall which seemed weird and about that time a lady came in and I realized that I was in the wrong bathroom and slithered out the door to the correct bathroom but I gotta say that the girls room smells way better and the floor ain’t sticky……..

Since I retired, and on a tight budget I often shop at Alidis. They have great bathrooms, but if and when I have to go, the Men's is always occupied by someone taking a monster squat. I just use the Women's, at that point in time I identify as a female. Never been busted so far.

Ahhh old cars.....my car from the mid 70's was this Chrysler 300K. I drove it from home state of Massachusetts to Minnesota in 1974; in only 23 1/2 hours. Have to say made pretty good time and gas was cheap then. I balanced and blueprinted engine put in 4:10 gears and high stall speed torque convertor. Made a great sleeper/street racer that surprised many. 413-425 h.p.

Once in Minnesota went more suttle with cars for awhile. 56 Chevy with 19000 actual miles, 56 Ford with 312 and about the same miles, then onto a 65 Chevelle SS with 300 h.p.327. Lastly in the 80's a 20th Anniversary Mustang GT350 with built 302 Stroker motor and nitrous. Mustang had to go before license did. Got carried away on Mustang.....had roll cage and full frame under it.
Quite the mill in that Chrysler jeep! Sleeper is putting it mildly. I'll bet it was tons of fun!
A buddy of mine had a 64 or 65 Chevelle 4-door that he bought for work. It had a 3 on the tree with a 283 in front of it. He could spin one tire till the cows came home. It's a wonder I'm still alive after riding with him in so many of his cars. I always told him he'd tear up a steel ball. Or lose it. We hit 100+ many times in his '67 Camaro. He still has it and it's looking fine to this day. Probably on his 8th or 9th motor in it now.

Love the '67 Camaro RS - top of my 'would be cool' list. Best of the Camaro tail ends, imo, and that clean, unhidden, single-lens front. So elegant.
But I'm not so high on Mack Brown, for leaning on the pollsters on behalf of his Longhorns, and displacing my beloved Aaron Rodgers-led Cal Bears out of their Rose Bowl bid. What rankles most is that the Austin branch of my extended family didn't even care; they've been to so many big bowls. My Bears, on the other hand, last sniffed the Rose Bowl in 1959. Mack Brown's reputed to be an upstanding, likeable gentleman, but *ugh*.
