I started out just carrying a mag in a pocket. Then, moved on to traditional belt mounted mag holders.
Since I have developed love handles, I have found horizontal mag holders to be much more comfortable.
I started out with canvas ones, I found on Ebay, but this leather model, is now my go to. Recently got one for my K40 too.

I have a double vertical paddle mag pouch which works for my 1911's and my PM45. Rarely ever wear it these days. My favorite is a Single vertical looks much like your's pictured only vertical made by Beardog, a member here. (who hasn't checked in for quite a spell, I might have to investigate). He did a great job on it and it's my go to if I go anywhere. I understand your fondness for the horizontal and have considered looking for one. Feel kind of the same about a scabbard for my belt knife. Horizontal or canted would be kind of nice.

I carry a spare magazine in my left back pocket in an Elite Survival Systems magazine pouch. Used to carry it loose but it kept getting sideways in my pocket, which made it hard to get out. The mag pouch keeps it vertical.

For today as an example -
Was carrying my HK VP9SK Holosun SCS OWB cross-draw with a flush 12 round mag.
I like vertical ballistic nylon twin mag pouches.
And carry twin reloads on the other side.
Also my trusty Ruger LCP in a pocket holster as a BUG.
Naturally always have an edged weapon too.
My favorite is a Spyderco Pacific Salt H1 with a serrated 3.8" blade.

No.
Same here.
That’s why I was happy to upgrade from 6+1 in my old LCP to the new 10(12)+1 LCP Max for more boolets

My pockets can get pretty full, depending on which part of the metro area I’m traveling through.

Both my belt and pockets are pretty full with items I use every day. Since the spaces on my belt are pretty well spoken for (as well as commonly wearing a tucked in shirt) I've been happy with the Galco PMC (pocket magazine holster) for my 45. I use an Ammo Armor magazine protector for my 9mm, but the Galco is much easier to access and stays oriented in the pocket... I'd purchase the Galco for my 9mm, but I rarely carry it.

So you Mexican Carry the big Smith? LOL :D
About 30 years ago I got my first concealed carry permit in Florida.
Did my research and came up with a short list of potential carry guns.
Went to the local range, bought a target for each gun and rented/shot them.
Colt 1911 45, Beretta 92 9mm, HK P7M8 9mm, Sig P220 45 and a Ruger Super Redhawk 44 Mag.
The Colt FTF, Beretta grouped like a shotgun, HK shot poorly, Sig and Ruger grouped sweet!
The Ruger was 7.5" barreled Hand Cannon.
And clearly ridiculous for a carry gun (Sorry Harry).
So Sig P220 was the winner.
Didn't make big money at the time and couldn't afford a new P220.
So I trolled the used gun cases looking for a gun for around $500.
During this process channel 44 was playing Dirty Harry week.
Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, Sudden Impact ...
I've always been a Stainless man (I like the shinny).
And came across twin S&W 629 4" guns @ $350 each.
I thought, maybe, just maybe, I could figure out how to carry it.
Tried OWB on my back hip.
But twice at restaurants folks noticed.
And I had to have uncomfortable conversations with the managers :(
Switched to an Extra Large Fanny Pack by Eagle.
Had to invert the gun just so it would fit - LOL!
No room for speed loaders.
Carried that way for about 2 years.
Gun was practiced with and loaded with Federal 44 Mag 240 gr Hydra-Shoks.
Still have a box or two around

Usually carry a bug in the pocket, but no extra mag for the hip gun. One extra in the car door handle and one extra bedside.
I just make sure Army is with me whenever I go anywhere. That dude has it all covered!

I only carry spare mag depending on where I go. Nowadays I pretty much WON'T GO to Murderapolis.

I think, I may have been to, too many training classes. They have scenarios where your strong side arm/hand is disabled by whatever, then make you try and draw your weapon with your weak side hand, not an easy task. Made even harder if you are thick in the middle. Since then I always pocket carry a revolver in my weak side pocket. (I used to carry my PM9 in pocket as a backup, but found that on more than one occasion, the mag release had been depressed, so I would only, have had one shot). I carry an extra mag, because I'm an old die hard 1911 guy, and only have 7 rounds. I also have a knife and flashlight.
But, I think I read somewhere, most civilian encounters are 3 rounds at 3 yards or less, and over in 3 seconds. One of my friends asked what I was afraid of? The answer is no human.
*The horizontal mag holders are from a custom holster shop, so not cheap, around $60 each. Takes about 6-7 weeks to get one made. I don't know what the site rules are on advertising, but if you want the maker, send me a PM.
I usually carry an extra mag.
Typically one that clips to my belt and designed to be carried IWB, though I carry them OWB. I have a bunch of Houston's and JM4's like this. They come in three different sizes. I carry them OWB so that the flap covers the outside of the mag. And because I don't like having two things inside my belt at the same time. The Houston's don't have that flap so I usually only use those on small mags. I also have some leather molded ones I use for my 1911s.

Left rear pocket for mag. Right front pocket for P380 or more frequently now CT380.
Mag rides in a Clinger Holster mag pouch, it stays upright and doesn't print or become uncomfortable sitting.
If I want two mags I have 2 pouches.

Weak side OWB.... I always carry an extra magazine especially being that most of what I carry are lower capacity.

Yes, always. Weak-side (3:30), OWB, vertical, leather mag carrier for a single mag. I am a southpaw, and my CCW (which I wear OWB, strong-side) has right-handed controls.

Hi!
Personally, I always carry an extra magazine when I'm carrying a pistol. It's like having a spare tire for your car – better safe than sorry.
Pocket carry is a popular option for some but it can be bulky depending on the magazine size. For instance, I've tried to carry mag this way, and when I needed to run - the mag slowly rose higher in my pocket and almost fell out... .
Belt-mounted mag holders are classic and offer easy access.
As for me, horizontal mag carriers are a great option for those with a bit more "tactical tummy" like you described, and they often conceal well under clothing. Leather can be a nice choice for durability and comfort.

No, but I store a spare 7-round Kahr magazine in a Snag-Mag pocket-clip sleeve (keeps the top round in place) in a car lockbox.
The odds are against me ever pulling my carry, but it's a reasonable concern that I'd be on foot in the wake of a major (California) earthquake or perhaps some other traffic-disrupting event, in which case I wouldn't mind toting a spare magazine on my walk home.

I always carry a 7-round reload opposite side in a simple, vertical, Kydex belt carrier. That works with my P40 or P380. I do have to make sure I switch to the correct mag carrier.caliber if I switch to the P40. ;) My pistol resides at 4 o'clock in an IWB Crossbreed MiniTuck. I always carry my Gerber FAST Draw clipped in the weak side pocket, even when I can't carry a pistol, as in casinos, but at doctors appointments I put the pistol/holster in my brief "clutch" document carrier.
Around the house and quick trips to the convenience store for lottery tickets, I had to stop using the Uncle Mike or whatever soft holster, as it was really worn and the dye seemed to be really irritating my skin... itchy rash! I now use my C.O.P. Kydex IWB holster with a metal clip, but have taken to wearing a light nylon "web" belt with the COP in between the belt and my shorts, not inside the shorts... more comfortable and my shorts don't sag on the gun side now... plus I can carry my phone in the back pocket without the shorts really sagging!
I dont' need a reload for the P380 around the house because I have a .40 S&W or .45 within a few feet of where ever I am... with reloads.
