My Mom tricked me. She said when I grew up, I could do anything I wanted.
It was a lie.
When you grow up, you can only do anything, you can afford.

An old farmer had three beautiful young daughters just starting to date so every Saturday night he would open the front door with a double barrel 12 gauge in hand so the boys would understand he was all business when it came to his daughters….
Saturday night came and there was a knock at the door and when he opened it there was a nice looking young man who said, Hello my name is Joe, I’m here to pick up Flo, we’re going to a show so I hope she’s ready to go…..The farmer figured the boy was clever and ok so he told them to have a good time……A short time later there was a knock and it was another boy who said, hello my name is Eddie and I’m here for Betty, we are going out for some spaghetti so I hope she’s ready……Again the farmer thought the kid was ok and told them to have fun….
Soon there was another knock at the door, the farmer opened it and the fellow said, Hello my name is Chuck and the farmer shot him dead…….

Yep, Metropolitan. When I was about 6 a neighbor lady had one in baby blue or turquoise, and white. In looking at that picture I was thinking about what it would look like if you removed the rear license plate, and painted the spare tire cover light brown. Terrible, aren't I?

Dude… YOU ARE MY HERO! If I can ever have/own/run a f.e.d. down the quarter, you can wrap me up and toss me into the flames. I’ve always been a lover of gassers, “slingshots”/f.e.d.s and anything else loud and in yer face. I really want an old truck as a retirement thing, but really, really, really hope there is a budget for a mild f.e.d. I will sit in the garage, drinking whatever my liver allows at the time, late at night, with old country or rock playing, fondling it while the rest of the neighbors are asleep. Call me nuts!
Btw, I’m sure I’ve shown you some of the one’s I’ve built/ran (Vette’s/‘Birds/Camaro’s). Yeah, I can not afford those these days either. At least that’s what the wife says.

You are lucky my friend. You still have it. I bet many here are scratching their heads over cars sold that were $20k, $30k, $40k when sold that now are worth/selling for double, triple, quadruple, etc. You are one of the lucky one’s. Kudos my friend!

I sold our 1967 Malibu coupe (283) with 70,000 miles in 1973 for $1,000.
The 1958 Olds 88 inherited from my grandma parked next to it had 50,000 miles on it when I sold it for $100 a couple years later.
That was our first house - bought it new in 1971 for $23,500 and sold it in 1976 for $30,000.

Thanks 340, that video was sweet, enjoyed it greatly! Sadly Dodge is calling its new Charger a “Six Pack” because it has a straight 6 turbo charged engine…….Nice try but it just ain’t the same as a big ole snorting 440 V8 with three 2 barrel gas sucking carbs making the go pedal something to love………I guess a straight 6 gas burner is better than the alternative all electric Charger that nobody wants or can afford……….

As you know, back in the 60's, a lot of the Pontiac GTO's had 389 Tri-power engines(Tri-power was their version of the 6 pack, 3 two barrel carbs). A couple of the guys in my High School had them.
Back in those days, I was poor, drove a lot of $100 cars. Always in the market for something else. Anyway, I once looked at a Pontiac Tempest, a 66 or 67, that had a straight six, with 3 deuces. On old guy had ordered from the factory like that, so he could pull his boat trailer. I passed on it, he was a house painter by trade, and had painted the car with a brush. Looked okay from a distance, but up close, not so great. It was pale yellow, with dark green interior. Wish I had of bought it now. Not sure how rare they were, but is the only one I have ever encountered.

Oh that brings back memories, my wife’s high school car was a white 66 Chevy Nova, 6 cylinder, 3 on the tree that I drove to work so she could drive my truck since it had air conditioning…….I had a love/hate relationship with the Nova but I learned a lot about working on cars because I had to…..I once put a clutch in it by myself on a rainy night while it was parked on the street with cars whizzing by……I sold that rust free car for a thousand bucks if I remember correctly when we moved back to Atlanta because a U-Haul car trailer was too expensive and we were so young and poor back then..…...I often kick myself in the a$$ for letting that one go……..

Loved Abe Vigoda as “Fish” on Barney Miller which was a very funny, trend setting TV show much like “All in the Family” was back in the day….You couldn’t make either show today with the”woke” folks getting all butt hurt over everything they think is an insult to something or some gender fluid group……..Fish explained everything that went wrong in his life as “I’m Old”……..I’m feeling it too……….
Yeah, scary to think that we're now getting to be about the same age and maybe a little older than that old man was then. That was a great show. Jack Soo, Hal Linden, Ron Glass, Max (Wojo). Can't remember his last name but the others are still in my memory banks. Can't recall the Inspector's name either. About the only character I didn't care for was Levitt.

An elderly, but hardy cattleman from Texas once told a young female neighbor that if she wanted to live a long life, the secret was to sprinkle a pinch of gunpowder on her oatmeal each morning. She did this religiously and lived to the ripe old age of 103. She left behind 14 children, 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and a 40-foot HOLE where the crematorium used to be.

With the only single additional option being four-wheel drive.
So it's a standard cab, I4 motor, 5sp manual transmission with crank windows and manual side mirrors :D

I was always a fan of manual myself figuring the electric stuff would quit at the most inconvenient times. When I got my van for construction, it had the electric windows and locks. It was awfully nice to just hit the switch and all the doors were locked. So far with that first van and my current van and my wife's cars we haven't had any problems, but I still see it coming.
My current van a 2000 F word, has the electric mirrors. I really do like those as I back into my spot at home to access the cement to roll off the ramp. I can adjust that side mirror down so I can see better where I'm going.

Navy is now assigning females to quarters in a separate private "OFF LIMITS" area on all aircraft carriers. While addressing all personnel at Pearl Harbor, the Admiral advised, "Female sleeping quarters will be "out-of-bounds" for all males. "Anyone caught breaking this rule will cost you $50 the first time." And the Admiral continued, "Anyone caught breaking this rule the second time will cost you $150. Being caught a third time will cost you a fine of $500. Does everyone understand this? Are there any questions?" At this point, a US Marine from the security detail assigned to the ship stood up in the crowd and inquired: "How much for a season pass??

Yes. I have my own cheap Singer sewing machine... at least 40 years old. I pull it out once in a while to sew some project... longer "throws" from good flannel sheets and will be making window sunshades for privacy, too, for my new Ford AWD Transit T-350 High Roof Long Wheelbase(not extended) with the twin turbo EcoBoost engine... 0-60 MPH in less than 7 seconds!
This will be quite a project if I live long enough to complete it! :)
We'll finally be able to stand up in our travel van... after over 30 years of scrunching down and banging our heads on the passenger van's A/C vents and control panels.
It's kind of empty now, but will have twin beds, minimal cooking(coffee for sure), hassock potty, and overhead storage.20999

My Mom's Singer looked exactly like that, but was in pale green. I remember them buying it; was a huge upgrade over her previous treadle-powered, iron-framed machine. I remember messing around with the treadle and accidentally driving the needle through the end of my finger.

Funny I've been looking at bigger vans too, mostly Mercedes, haven't really looked at Fords, didn't know they had AWD. That's a plus. You think the EcoBoost engine would pull a relatively light boat trailer pretty good over a mountain pass? I probably wouldn't go with the high roof, I don't stand up much, wife don't generally walk around much in the van. I'd like the little longer wheelbase like yours to haul a little bit longer wood and stuff. Looks great and your looking fine too. Looks like another nice day for you too. Give me all the good and bad details. Nothing electric I hope.

03-20-2024, 02:29 PM
They have low, medium, and high roofs... mine the latter. I almost got the medium as it has about 6' floor to ceiling in back, but wanted more storage for overhead cabinets. The high roof allows about 6'8" floor to ceiling beams. I'll take up about 2" with insulation and flooring... eventually.
Yeah, AWD and the EcoBoost is more than capable of hauling stuff in the mountains but requires at LEAST 87 octane. This engine is strong and quick... sub 7 seconds in 0-60 in tests with 310HP and 400 pound-feet of torque!
It will run you about 70K with a LOT of options for a 2023 and about 3K more for a 2024. The '23's have more options that are no longer available on the '24's.
I have the 148" wheelbase because I didn't want the extra length of the extended version... about 28" longer, though that pretty much eliminates having a shower in the van. The twin beds will take up a lot of space.
This van is 1 foot longer, but over 2 feet taller than my Savana, but it's a rocketship when you punch the accelerator.
I got white for reflecting the sun's heat and planning on "stealth camping"... looking like a contractor van when parked somewhere overnight. :-)
Ford Transit has had AWD available for 4-6 years now, so not new, and it's been around in Europe even longer.
Got to run, but check Transits out and the FordTransitForum for even more consumer info.

:D Man! It has been a long time since Disco was a thing. I remember "dancing" to that music in the 70's while stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX.
Yeah, we're doing okay and married 38 years Friday the 22nd. Desiree wants to go to PF Chang for Chinese food, so we have reservations for tonight... don't want to try Friday night!
It's a bummer that we're in debt again, but I'm so happy to have a taller van with a bit more room for stuff. I like my stuff inside out of the weather. It's going to take a lot of work and more money to get this one travel ready, in addition to replacing my 15KW generator that became a smoke generator a few months ago. I need to replace that, build a new shed for that, and get ready for hurricane season, too!
At least I got the windows 3M-tinted and that helps with the heat and sun coming through those large front windows... none in the rear, unless I add some small ones for ventilation over the beds.
So much to do... insulation, flooring, walls, ceiling, battery power $ystem, $OLAR, coffee/cooking area, swivels for the seats, and cloth seat covers to replace the vinyl ones. Wifey didn't get heated seats, though. I WAS ordering those, but took this deal to get something now while it was available. I had to cancel my order from February last year because Ford had cancelled it, anyhow, with all of the shortages and recalls on stuff. I feel very lucky to have found this one unexpectedly on the lot with most of what I wanted and some stuff that I didn't, but at least I'm not waiting any more FOR a van. :o
Ford has many more dealerships and they are a bit cheaper for maintenance than the diesel-powered Mercedes Sprinters.

Wow! that brings back a old memory when I was a kid. My fist mistake. Had a Buck being chased by dogs and headed right for me. I starred that it for a few seconds then went to reach for my shotgun. Dang that sucker saw me, bolted off to the left into extremely thick brush. While he was in the Brush, I ran ahead and cut him off coming out. Nailed him at that point.
Another memory. We were hunting that morning. My brother had already taken a nice buck. Later we had lunch on a old logging road. I feel asleep and started snoring. Well this caused a Buck to come out thinking it was a deer grunting. I was quickly awoken at the sound of a gun shot. "My brother came over said that the Buck was just a few feet from you and staring at you. I had to wait the longest time before he moved away and take him down."
And in all these years they haven't learned much. Still as likely to bolt in front of a car as to wait for it to pass.
