As a kid I remember having Neiborhood rock fights.
We would throw rocks at each other until someone got hit real bad.
That would end the festivities for the day.
But the next day we would be at it again ...

Absolutely no one wore helmets or elbow/knee pads riding bikes or skateboards.
I didn't even wear a helmet riding my motorcycles.

I lost a front tooth during a rock fight. Told my mom it was a basketball. Sitting in the dentist chair, the dentist cried BS. He pulled what was left of the tooth, never did replace it. Don't have many teeth left. Don't care much for dentist. Figured if one hurt just yank it. When they are all gone I'd get me some of the fake ones, not the wood one's like George Washington but the tupperware ones like a Glock.

We used to play GLADIATOR where we would ride our bikes at each other and have wooden "spears" to jam in opponents spokes to flip them off the bike.
As a back up, we carried our slingshots and a pocket full of what we called "ADAM PEARLS". When the ADAM PEARL hit, it exploded on impact. They were about the size of a marble. :boink:

Our favorite thing was to play Evel Knievel on our bicycles. We had a good hill in our back yard to pick up speed. Set up a ramp with the biggest piece of plywood you could find then see how many of your friends that you could jump. All this in shorts and no shirt or helmet. Crashes and scars were badges of honor. The last friend being jumped that had a tire mark on him received honorable mention. My cousin broke his femur and ended up in traction at the hospital for 3 weeks then a cast for 6 weeks. Dummy didn’t know how to build a proper ramp.

When they are all gone I'd get me some of the fake ones, not the wood one's like George Washington but the tupperware ones like a Glock. Reminds me of the time I went to the dentist. Always had an aversion towards dentists. Comes from going to a dentist when I was a kid. My particular dentist had the nickname " the butcher ". He would slap a male kid if they started crying from the pain of him drilling into a nerve. He should have been a nerve doctor. He could find one every time. These days, he'd be in prison. Decided to go to a sedation dentist. A little Hydroxyzine and a Lorazepam, and la la land. A little oxygen clip on your finger to make sure you're still alive. First visit I had a cleaning, wisdoms removed and a root canal. Second visit, all of my metal fillings replaced by porcelain stuff. They can do so much more these days when you're out. He did what normally would have been 5 or 6 long visits, in 2.......................After the first appointment, I had no clue what was going on. I don't remember much. That's one of the pros of sedation dentistry. The wife helped me to the car, and of course I had to light up a smoke immediately. The wife was not happy. Dropped the smoke at least 5 or 6 times in the car. We were stopped at a light, and I opened up the car door and spit out about a cup of blood. The wife said I should have seen the look on the faces of the people in the car behind us..............

I remember seeing the Green Monster at a strip about 15-20 miles from me back in '63-'64, when I was 10 or 11. I'm pretty sure he got near 500 mph on that short track. All I remember is it looked and sounded like a giant cigarette lighter and blew your ears when it went by. Very memorable.

My picture was probably around 75 or so. I don't think that one was called the Green Monster, the monster was much larger, taller etc. This thing was pencil thin and ultra streamlined. Their biggest issue was keep the wheel bearings lubricated. Watching his crew load him into that thing was entertaining. Whenever he ran, they shut everybody else down and he started out about 2 or 3 miles back from the regular starting line. Just a blast to watch him. Al Teagues was another gun one to watch and a great guy to talk to as well. We were baling wire and duct tape, those guys were big dollar top end stuff.

The only cow in a small Iowa town stopped giving milk. The people did some research and found that they could buy a cow just across the state line in Wisconsin for $200.
They bought the cow from Wisconsin and the cow was wonderful. It produced lots of milk all of the time, and the people were pleased and very happy.
They decided to acquire a bull to mate with the cow to produce more cows like it. They would never have to worry about their milk supply again.
They bought the bull and put it in the pasture with their beloved cow. However, whenever the bull came close to the cow, the cow would move away.
No matter what approach the bull tried, the cow would move away from the bull and he could not succeed in his quest.
The people were very upset and decided to ask the Vet in a neighboring town, who was very wise, what to do. They told the Vet what was happening.
“Whenever the bull approaches our cow, she moves away. If he approaches from the back, she moves forward.
When he approaches her from the front, she backs off. An approach from the side, she walks away to the other side.”
The Vet thought about this for a minute and asked, “Did you by chance, buy this cow in Wisconsin?”
The people were dumbfounded, since no one had ever mentioned where they bought the cow.
“You are truly a wise Vet,” they said. “How did you know we got the cow in Wisconsin?”
The Vet replied with a distant look in his eye, “My wife is from Wisconsin.”

Old and Young Aliens
Two aliens landed in the Arizona desert near a gas station that's closed for the night.
They approach one of the gas pumps and the younger alien addressed it saying,
''Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace. Take us to your leader."
The gas pump, of course, doesn't respond.
The young alien became angry at the lack of response.
The older alien says, 'I'd calm down if I were you.'

The young alien ignores the warning and repeats his greeting. Again, there's no response.
Annoyed by what he perceived to be the pump's haughty attitude, he draws his ray gun and says impatiently,
"Greetings, Earthling. We come in peace. Do not ignore us this way! Take us to your leader or I will fire!"

The older alien again warns his comrade saying, "You probably don't want to do that!"
" I really don't think you should make him mad."
"Rubbish," replies the cocky, young alien. He aims his weapon at the pump and opens fire.

There's a huge explosion. A massive fireball roars towards them and blows the younger alien
off his feet and deposits him a burnt, smoking mess in a cactus patch.
He refocused his three eyes, straightens his bent antenna, and looks at the older,
wiser alien who was standing over him shaking his big, green head.

"He damn near killed me! How did you know he was so dangerous?"
The older alien leans over, places a friendly feeler on his crispy friend and replies,
"If there's one thing I've learned during my intergalactic travels,
you don't want to mess with a guy who can loop
his pen*s over his shoulder twice and then stick it in his ear."

How many have ordered custom knives?
I never have, but recently discovered a custom knife maker, about 35 minutes away. He has a web site, and I really like this model, different scales and pins are available.
https://flatrockforge.com/?product=saluda
It comes with a leather Scabbard, in an email I mentioned that I did not need the scabbard, because I was going to use it as a kitchen knife, I don't care for the large Chef's knifes. He sent me a photo of a Smaller 5" chef's knife in AEB-L stainless. Called the Petty Chef. Alleged to be sharper than a Mother-in-law's tongue. I ordered one, will be a few weeks. I had never encountered AEB-L Stainless before, supposed to have been developed in Northern Europe for razor blades. From what I have read, it is somewhat of a Unicorn Knife steel. Easy to sharpen AND good edge retention. Review to follow upon receipt.

Not the best knife, but the funnest knife I ever had was a double edged butterfly knife that I sharpened up both sides razor sharp. Every time I pulled it out, someone would always want to play with it. I warned them it was sharp and they would say, "I know what I'm doing". The first little slip their finger(s) would be bleeding and they wouldn't realize it. They would be surprised when I told them to give me the knife back before they cut their fingers off, as they couldn't believe they were bleeding. It was that sharp. Then I would flip it around pretty fast and fancy, like in the movies. Anyone else who wanted to try kind of hung their heads.

I first had a single edge one that I spent many hours practicing with over a couple or three years before I found a double edged one. I think while at camp a number of years back, we had a knife throwing contest. The others all had fixed blade hunting knives and I didn't. This is when I discovered that butterfly knives weren't made to be throwing knives, especially into trees. I wish I can find another one again, but pretty sure I got this overseas in PI. The pretty ones make a great BBQ knife, and the double edged ones tend to discourage those who have never used one, or rather those who think they can use one.

I've got a boatload of knives.
Some, for me anyway, are stupid expensive (Microtech).
But for an EDC pocket knife?
My all-time favorite the Spyderco Pacific Salt H1 -

I have one MicroTech. Like new used but unbelievably expensive. I sure like it and carry it in my bag all the time. Seldom use it. I'd be dead if my wife knew what they cost.

I've often wondered why some knives can be so expensive. The only good thing about that is it's kept me from jonesing on them too much. My arguable best knife is a Tops BOB knife, which is for my bugout bag. It was only a bit over a hundred bucks 8 or so years ago. Very nice knife, and the curiousness comes when I compare what this is and how much it costs, to a small folder like a Benchmade that's only a fraction of it's size.

In my mind, it makes sense for a nice folder to cost more than a fixed blade. More metal, bearings, screws, locking mechanism, etc... Plus knife folks focus on fit and finish, centering of the blade when closed, and more.

Love me some knives.

The best pocket folder I have ever owned hands down,
Hogue RSK Mini

That knife looks so much like my Benchmade Mini Barrage 585 it’s hard to believe they aren’t related…..I love the thing, perfect pocket size but big enough to do anything I will ever need……The Best Buy I ever got on a quality knife was at a Walmart sporting goods counter and seeing a Buck 119 with a 6 inch fixed blade and old school black hard handle for $19.99 about 10 years ago……I still have it and it came with a real nice leather belt sheath and is all the hunting knife I’ll ever need…..I’m thinking it was either mis marked or a close out because I’ve since seen it priced much higher…….

That's one of several bad things about vans... but I DO have a twin turbo capable of under 7 seconds 0 to 60 MPH!

I got all of my "RV" stuff out of my 19+ year old Savana today. Tomorrow I'll shampoo the carpet and dig out the two rear passenger seats from my "storeroom" living room, and put them back in... an 8-pax van again!

After I change the oil and filter, and get the 5-wheel rotation and balancing under my Sam's Club road warranty done next week, I'll be ready to sell it.

On the other hand... our A/C stopped cooling today... ambient temperature 78°. We got a new compressor/condenser motor last Summer and in September got a new compressor... AND another new motor, too, as the dumba$$ repairing it left a wire untaped and ruined the motor. They offered to only charge us HALF the price of the new motor as the guy had f'd up! We paid... and now, it doesn't work again!

At least it's cool/cold at night and I have a fan rigged to suck the air out upstairs and the windows open downstairs. I didn't feel like pulling the two window units out of the storeroom until tomorrow, if it's hot again. I'll call the emergency A/C line then, too. They were closed today... 3:30 PM, but I left a message on the answering machine.

I thought we had a few things covered... new A/C outside unit in September and a new washing machine in February... but the water heater is over 14 years old... 12-year warranty... so not bad.

We do have THREE vehicles and are paying $1,160 every 6 months each, so some urgency is needed in lessening that! Insurance has skyrocketed... but not so much for the house... yet!

I've got to build a new shed for the generator coming in Monday or Tuesday, too, AND get the old one out of the way! I just don't have enough to do... to procrastinate... with hurricane season coming!

My new inverter-based Duromax XP16000iH will use LPG or gas and I need a few tall LPG tanks for that, since it uses about 2 gallons an hour. I will have 8 five-gallon cans of gas, but not use that unless I have to. LPG doesn't go bad as quickly as gasoline. I won't even put the gas into the 10.6(!) gallon tank until I have to. I've never had an outage longer than 28 hours since I got the old generator.

Wish you weren't on the opposite end of the continent. I'd take a look at that 19 year old Savana. My 24 years old F word van is still doing fine and I actually like it but I'm still a GM guy.
I've looked at the vans like you got online and I just can't wrap my head around a V6 in a full size van. I know you say yours hauls the mail but I'm struggling. I'd love the 6.9 V8 they put in the GM pickups and I think some vans.
Plus the price of vans like yours and all new stuff far as that goes is insane. Like buying a house back in the day.
Guess my old van's gonna have to go a ways longer. Don't actually drive much these days anyhow. Sometimes go a month without leaving the driveway. Just the way I like it.

Yeah, I know. It must be 3K miles up there! My GMC has 8 doors... a real PITA for pull-in parking... and parking in our tightly filled garage... shelves full of stuff on the sides and overhead on the walls. Opening the side doors is like an airlock with opening one door, then the other, then trapped between the two until you reverse the process. A slider is much better.
Yeah, we were out of debt... WERE... and we're burning through savings on needed things and stuff for the new van, and putting off home renovation... mainly due to my procrastination, but the van is a big debt... for a few years.
The Transit probably weighs just a little more than the Savana... about 6K pounds empty, but can carry about 3,500... 9,500 GVWR. I don't plan on loading it up that much with wood paneling and tiling and stuff as some do... and no underbody tanks of anything but gasoline... about 30 gallons of that, max. Going to keep it simple, but better than tent camping with height to stand up.

My Dad was a BIG Nascar fan, where we lived, Charlotte, Rockingham, and Darlington were all within 2 hours. We went to six races every year. A buddy of my dad, bought a well used school bus, and eliminated about half the body. Cut and moved the rear to about half way. The back end became a deck, with benches, grill, large cooler. We used to complain about not having a porta-jon built in. Built a deck on top of the front half of the bus. It became the Nascar Bus, took it to all the races, we used to park near him and watch the race from the upper deck. It was fantastic. Someone, once had a few to many, and rolled off the upper deck. Had to install rails after that.

Funny thing bout them VW's. My grandfather a body and fender man hated them worse than anything. Instilled that hatred in my. In high school I wouldn't even ride in one. Years later a friend was a VW mechanic and had lots of them, helped him sometimes working on them and kind of shifted things some. I think I ended up having 2 or 3 of them. Fastest car I ever owned was one of my VW's. It was a 1600 pumped up to about 1850. Had a 4 barrel Holley on it for a while but found it ran best with 2 2 barrel Webers. At the local drag strip we put my engine in one of his ugly sawzalled baja bugs, put wide short tires on the back. People looked like why did you bring that here. Until the tree lit up. It turned in the 13's. In fact second run in bracket we broke, went too fast and hit high 12's.
Often wish I still had that car, but my friend has passed and the clutch might be an issue these days.

When I was around 6 our neighbor drove an early 60’s VW bus and a beatle and I thought they were the coolest cars on earth…….My father said that anyone who owned one of those foreign cars was obviously a red communist and told me not to talk to them…….

The early 60’s was a strange time to grow up in but we had great music, drive in movies and really good TV cartoons to watch in the afternoons after our school teacher showed us how the best way to survive a thermonuclear blast was to get under our desks and place our hands over our heads……

I often see older gentlemen, out with metal detectors. I thought they were looking for loose change, never thought about lost firearms. Hmm....wonder how much a metal detector cost?

When I first scrolled down to the post all I saw was the black box and the caption "I'm this old". First thought was "Yep, we're all getting close to that age"

Then I scrolled down and saw the rest .... but that first sight and thought really stuck in my remaining dozen active brain cells.

That car looks so cool now but back then it was ho hum. I actually bought one that someone had shoe-horned a V8 into. I told the guy when I picked it up that I was expecting a turn key car. He assured me it was. Fast little bugger. But the next morning as I was heading to work the oil plug fell out of the pan. I made it to town, about 3/4 of a mile away and called him to tell him to come pick it up. He refused at first but I told him I'd cancel the check as soon as the bank opened. He came and got it, with a plug and oil. And my check.

A guy in my little hometown, had an Opal, with a shoe horned V8 in it. Looked like a mini-corvette. It was very good looking, not sure how it preformed.

A guy in my hometown had an Opel GT. He would go and visit his girlfriend, and we'd get a bunch of guys together and pick it up and move it. Then we would wait for him to come out and see his car gone. The look on his face, priceless......................
