Last week, we took some friends out to a new restaurant, and noticed that the waiter who took our order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket. It seemed a little strange.
When the waiter brought our water and cutlery, I noticed he also had a spoon in his shirt pocket. Then I looked around and saw that all the staff had spoons in their pockets.
When the waiter came back to serve our soup I asked, "Why the spoon?" "Well, "he explained, "the restaurant’s owners hired Andersen Consulting to revamp all our processes. After several months of analysis, they concluded that the spoon was the most frequently dropped piece of cutlery. It represents a drop frequency of approximately 3 spoons per table per hour. If our staff are better prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to the kitchen and save 15 man-hours per shift."
As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he was able to replace it with his spare. "I’ll get another spoon next time I go to the kitchen instead of making an extra trip to get it right now." I was impressed.
I also noticed that there was a string hanging out of the waiter’s zip on his trousers. Looking around, I noticed that all the waiters had the same string hanging from their flies. So before he walked off, I asked the waiter, "Excuse me, but can you tell me why you have that string right there?"
"Oh, certainly!" Then he lowered his voice. "Not everyone is so observant. That consulting firm I mentioned also found out that we can save time in the rest-room. By tying this string to the tip of you know what, we can pull it out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our hands, shortening the time spent in the rest-room by 76.39 per cent."
I asked "After you get it out, how do you put it back?"
"Well," he whispered, "I don’t know about the others, but I use the spoon."

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery. If you had to do this to survive you were “piss poor.”
But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn’t even afford to buy a pot; they “didn’t have a pot to piss in” & were the lowest of the low.

The next time you are washing your hands & complain because the water temperature isn’t just how you like it, think about how things used to be. Here are some facts about the 1500s.

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June. Since they were starting to smell, however, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women, and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it … hence the saying, “Don’t throw the baby out with the Bath water!”

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof, resulting in the idiom, “It’s raining cats and dogs.”

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed, therefore, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That’s how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt, leading folks to coin the phrase “dirt poor.”

The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way, subsequently creating a “thresh hold.”

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while, and thus the rhyme, “Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old.”

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, “bring home the bacon.” They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and “chew the fat.”

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or the “upper crust.”

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial.. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up, creating the custom of holding a wake.

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive, so they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift.) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be, saved by the bell or was considered a dead ringer.

And that’s the truth. Now, whoever said History was boring?

Curtis & Leroy bought a mule for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the mule the next day. The next morning the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry, fellows, I have some bad news, the mule died last night."
Curtis & Leroy replied,"Well, then just give us our money back." The farmer said,"Can't do that. I went and spent it already." They said, "OK then, just bring us the dead mule." The farmer asked, "What in the world ya'll gonna do with a dead mule?" Curtis said, "We gonna raffle him off."

The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead mule!" Leroy said, "We shore can! We don't hafta tell nobody he's dead!" A couple of weeks later, the farmer ran into Curtis & Leroy at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store and asked. "What'd you fellers ever do with that dead mule?"

They said,"We raffled him off like we said we wuz gonna do." Leroy said,"We sold 500 tickets fer two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898." The farmer said, "Didn't anyone complain?" Curtis said, "Well, the feller who won got upset. So we gave him his two dollars back."

Curtis and Leroy now work for the government. They're overseeing the Bailout & Stimulus Programs.

Awhile back I read the autobiography from Mark Owen, Navy Seal and he said the Seals actually used dolphins to guard boats to repel divers etc. One dolphin [the watchdog one] was trained to ring a bell on side of boat and a second dolphin was trained to "headbutt" anyone close. He claimed you did not want to be headbutt by one. He learned about them during training off the Alaska coast. He said he was able to get near boat by throwing dolphins off by releasing his air tank bubbles in order to distract them. Part of the training was to attach a fake detonator to side of ship without being detected.

A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband is not in bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wipes a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee. https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t91/1/16/2615.png
'What's the matter, dear' she whispers as she steps into the room, 'Why are you down here at this time of night
The husband looks up from his coffee, 'It's the 20th Anniversary of the day we met'.
She can't believe he has remembered and starts to tear up.
The husband continues, 'Do you remember 20 years ago when we started dating, I was 18 and you were only 16,' he says solemnly.
Once again, the wife is touched to tears. 'Yes, I do' she replies.
The husband pauses The words were not coming easily. 'Do you remember when your father caught us in the back seat of my car'
'Yes, I remember' said the wife, lowering herself into the chair beside him.
The husband continued. 'Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, "Either you marry my daughter or I will send you to prison for 20 years'
'I remember that, too' she replied softly.
He wiped another tear from his cheek and said "I would have gotten out today."

Democrat Kittens for sale
A little girl was selling kittens out of a box. The sign next to the box read: Democrat Kittens—$1. A gentleman snickered as he walked by. The same gentleman walked by the little girl a week later, and the box now read Republican Kittens—$1. The gentleman asked the girl, “Why the name change?” She replied, “Well, they’ve got their eyes open now.”

An Arizona Highway Patrol officer stops a Harley rider for traveling faster than the posted speed limit:
He asks the old biker his name.
“Fred.” He replies.
“Fred what?” The officer asks.
“Just Fred.” The old man responds.

The officer is in a good mood, thinks he might just give the old biker a break and write him out a warning instead of a ticket.
The officer then presses him for the last name.
The old man tells him that he used to have a last name, but lost it.

The officer thinks that he has a nut case on his hands but plays along with it.
“Tell me, Fred, how did you lose your last name?’
The old biker replies.
“It’s a long story, so stay with me. I was born Fred Johnson. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, and residency, and finally got my degree, so I was Fred Johnson, MD.

After a while, I got bored being a doctor, so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream! I got all the way through school, got my degree, so then I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS. I got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant and she gave me VD, so now I was Fred Johnson, MD, DDS, with VD.

Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. Then I was Fred Johnson, MD, with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Johnson with VD.

Then the VD took away my Johnson, so now I am Just Fred.”

The officer walked away in tears, laughing

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.
No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- And maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death,
-by his parents, Truth and Trust,
-by his wife, Discretion,
-by his daughter, Responsibility,
-and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 5 stepchildren;
- I Know My Rights
- I Want It Now
- Someone Else Is To Blame
- I'm A Victim
- Pay me for Doing Nothing

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

So..when I was in the US Navy. Certain guys were always working to get out of work. Hiding, long head calls etc... These individuals were known as "Skates.
Often time, your buds would jokingly accuse you of "skating".
Well... Looks like my companion, Charley Poodle, is a born skate. Here he is, in his natural habitat:

Ah... the good old days when you got cereal to eat for breakfast... with the box to amuse you and possible toys and puzzles inside. ******* Jacks, too! My favorite, I guess, was the little plastic submarine with a metal lid on its bottom that you used to fill with baking powder and then drop it into the water where it would sink to the bottom until a bubble large enough to float the sub back to the surface where it would roll over and release the bubble, then back to the bottom again... boring after a while, but a kid can marvel at something so simple.
It was cooler back then and we got by with window fans, if lucky, but still sweaty nights in Mississippi.

Once per weekend, Mom took all four of us kids down to Gemco where we each chose a box of cereal.

My oldest brother - Mr. responsible, delayed-gratification, future super geek - always chose 'sensible' cereals with no prize, but rather box tops that he'd collect and mail in for nicer items.
The rest of us took whatever cereal had the most sugar and best toy.

To this day, I have a white scar across my left pointer finger from hacking Quisp spaceship parts out of the plastic mold frame with my mom's kitchen knife.
Instead of taking me to the doctor, she just wrapped it up tightly and splinted it with a popsicle stick. Mercurochrome was probably involved.

After the bleeding stopped, I used scissors to liberate the remaining parts and completed the spaceship. It was a pull-along (they included the string), and the alien bobbed up and down.

I'd pull out a large salad bowl and pour an entire box in the bowl.
Add milk and that was breakfast!
My dad said he would fill a cart with groceries.
And me and my two brothers would eat it all in a few days.

An entire load of bread or box of crackers, whatever was left ...

came from SSI Government food but I ate it anyway along with corn meal mush which was meal and carnation canned milk with a big glob of bacon drippings cooked up in a black skillet which was pretty good eating……We grew tomatoes, squash and corn in the back yard and what we didn’t eat made good soup for the winter but I will never forget eating a big bologna and cheese sandwich for lunch at school every day made with Sunbeam bread which made me strong…….

I actually saw an E-Truck or whatever it’s called last week, it’s so stupid looking I can’t believe anyone paid good money for that crazy looking thing…..Wow, all I can say is this world’s chain has come completely off its sprocket and there are people out there with way too much money and not too many brain cells left………

Speakingof those things…. somebody with a sense of humor has already come up with an accessory:

Put cap roll on edge. Hit with hammer. Deaf for 2 days. Rinse and repeat. What fun..................When that got old, weave powder parts of caps back and forth on a hat pin puncturing the powder spots. Pull out pin and carefully wrap tightly with tape. Homemade fuse, ka boom. For nighttime, cut the heads off of about 100 farmer matches. Carefully wrap in aluminum foil into a ball. Wrap ball with tape. Throw against hard surface and either a light show, a smoke bomb, or an explosion. Those were the days. Homemade fuse was string, coated with Elmers's glue, sprikled with powder.

My favorite was the little metal mortar shell you could throw. The goal was to see how many layers of caps you could stuff into the "chamber" and it would still go off.

Do ya’ll remember something called “Poppers” they were little metal balls you threw down on pavement and they would ignite with a sound like a .22 going off…..They came in a metal tin like air rifle pellets but the top cover edge was real sharp so my friends little brother Davie had a tin of poppers and decided to throw the whole tin down as hard as he could on our driveway and guess what, they all went off at once blowing the tins cover off and hitting him right in the neck, I’ve never seen so much blood in my life, we all figured he was a goner for sure……..Somebody rode him home on the handlebars of their bike so his mom could take him to get stitched up and somehow he lived but had a real nasty neck scar when the stitches came out……Go figure, sell 9 year old kids something explosive and what could possibly go wrong…..Those were different times alright but we sure had fun…….

From examining crackerballs at the age of 8, I assembled my own larger ones using the flash powder from plentiful firecracker duds, some brown grocery bag paper, and small pieces of flint rock. I twisted several layers(?) around the powder and rocks. This wasn't compact and easy to throw down, so I used a about 2 feet of 1" steel water pipe to smack the bomb. There was quite the boom and my hand got numb and I was a temporarily deafened and got a lot of smoke, but DANG! had to make another one!
We were poor and our single/divorced mother could watch us all of the time or afford a babysitter. We had to amuse ourselves... mid-50's then.

By age 11 or 12 I got a real chemistry set with all of the proper ingredients for real gun powder... and hydrogen gas generation... with several acids and other things. I was able to replenish the sulfur, saltpeter, and charcoal at the drug store, too! What fun until my younger brother poured all of the chemicals together on the set's box and ruined everything.

I've always liked guns, fireworks, and other neat stuff. I'm luck that I never got more than a small burn from poking a lighter punk into a small amount of flashpowder. Whoosh! And Ow!

I'm a LITTLE more careful nowadays! I have tried to avoid things like that stuff that you can shoot to blow it... and other stuff up! Plus I live in the 'Burbs now and I try to be a good neighbor. :p:amflag: My celebrations with noise makers have been limited to blowing off about 4 shotshell 209 primers in my old flare pengun from SEA... pretty pathetic.

JohnR

I fired six primer-only .38 rounds on last News Years Eve. The sound was lost among all the neighborhood fireworks and other bang stuff.

We lived across the street from our high school (Terry Parker, which Wyntrout knows). Back then it wasn’t fenced in, so my brother and I used the parking lot as our playground, with model airplanes and fireworks. My favorite thing was to drop a lit firecracker down a steel fence post that had no cap on it. It went THUP!, like a mortar sounds in a WWII movie. I also taped a bottle rocket to a balsa glider, and the damn thing flew pretty well. I also shot out the street light with a bb pistol, juvenile delinquent that I was. I tried to knock squirrels out of the backyard trees, but it didn’t have enough power to do more than tickle their bellies.

A friend of mine got a hold of a VERY LARGE explosive of some type. Lit it and dropped it down a neighborhood sewer. Sat and waited and we thought it went out. He went over to check, and it went off, blowing his hat and glasses off and we could hear the echo coming out of every sewer hole for blocks. His father used to work for the railroad, and he used to get what was known as track torpedoes. They had a lead strap on them and were supposed to be put on the track as a warning to the train that there was a problem up ahead. They were loud enough to be heard over the train noise. We used to put about 20 or 30 on the tracks downtown and when the train hit them, it sounded like World War three. We also made a homemade explosive using pipe with welded ends. Buried it 4 ft. underground and ran cannon fuse through a piece of conduit. We put an old tire on a rim on top of the hole along with a large boulder that took 2 of us to lift. It was near some railroad tracks. We lit the fuse, and it seemed like we waited for ever. After like 2 minutes, we thought that the fuse probably went out due to lack of air. We wouldn't be able to check it until we were sure it was out. Then it went off. Mushroom cloud above the trees. It was so strong; we didn't check the damage until the next day. It had left about a 4 ft. diameter hole. You could tell it blew straight up, as we had hoped. It had lifted up a section of track and we found the tire and boulder in the cemetery, about 75 yards away. That was the last time we fooled with anything. That's the kind of stuff that they could put you away for...........A friend worked at a foundry, and they used to have smoke devices that they used to test airflow in ovens. We got one and dropped it out of a moving car right in the center of downtown. There was so much smoke, it filled a whole 5 block area. Basically, the whole downtown. It stopped traffic for quite some time. You couldn't even see your hand in front of your face.............................

:D Wow!

I thought that I was pretty bad when I made a contraption to fire bottle rockets at people as I drove back to college... after 4 years in the USAF including service in and around Vietnam.
I got the tube to my younger sister's baton that she no longer used and with a length of coat hanger attached to it holding a cartridge case at the base of the tube... far enough away for the bottle rocket to be inserted with the bottom of its stick in the case and the fuse exposed just below the base of the tube, I had the tube stuck through the opposite vent window and aimed at a slightly upward and forward angle so that I could light the fuse with a fireworks punk igniter and fire it at a target of opportunity as I passed it. 1958 Chevy Impala with the triangular vent windows that used to give good breezes. I also had an aftermarket A/C that came with the car, I think.
Anyhow, I had some fun on the way back to college, though I feel a little guilty now. I don't think that I hurt anyone and I hope that I caused no fires. Those bottle rockets were a bit unreliable and unpredictable in results.
That same season... December 1968/69?? My brothers... 2-3 younger ones... me being the oldest... stood on a deserted country concrete bridge and flung lit BR's in the air... underhanded... at each other. Those would either ignite and fly at the others, or land on the bridge and ignite and still slide or fly at them... what fun! We were maybe 100 feet or less apart.
That was more fun that just shooting them into the air.

"When we invest in... ...reduced population... ...more of our children can breath clean air and drink clean water." Kamala Harris.

Don't click on this unless you don't mind Kackles talking like she's addressing kindergarteners, it's really pathetic.

Sheesh. Yes, reduce population. Then add to it by having more kids.

I won't listen to her, but I'd be interested to hear someone explain exactly what she means by investing in reduced population. That is if anyone can actually make sense of the drivel that comes out of her mouth.

The US population would decline if they didn’t keep importing new people. The birth rate was below replacement rate.

Last Kiss
Back on January 9th, a group of Pekin, Illinois bikers were riding west on I-74
when they saw a girl about to jump off the Murray Baker Bridge.
So they stopped.
George, their leader, a big burly man of 53, gets off his Harley, walks through a group of gawkers,
past the State Trooper who was trying to talk her down off the railing, and says,
"Hey Baby.....whatcha doin' up there on that railin'?"

She says tearfully, "I'm going to commit suicide!!"

While he didn't want to appear "sensitive," George also didn't want to
miss this "be-a-legend" opportunity either so he asked ...
"Well, before you jump, Honey-Babe...why don't you give ole George here your best last kiss?"

So, with no hesitation at all, she leaned back over the railing
and did just that ... and it was a long, deep, lingering kiss followed immediately by another even better one.

After they breathlessly finished, George gets a big thumbs-up approval
from his biker-buddies, the onlookers, and even the State Trooper, and then says,

"Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had, Honey!
That's a real talent you're wasting, Sugar Shorts.
You could be famous if you rode with me.
Why the hell are you committing suicide?"

"My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl."

It's still unclear whether she jumped or was pushed.

Trump will never see the inside of a prison cell because he will win on the appeals all the way to the SCOTUS.
The democrats know that, but they just want to humiliate him.
Given that the Clinton cabal with all their blatant corruption & unindicted criminal activities walked, and the current jackass in the White House given a pass for his lawbreaking because of his dementia, then Big Mouth Donald deserves to get one of these….

Not directly. Its simpler and more despicable. We need to clear our heads of conspiracy hallucinations and look at what is actually happening right in the open. The repeated Orange Dictator rant can have only one goal, and its not to make regular voters believe it. In fact its so counter-factual it sounds ridiculous to any normal person. But who might buy into something like that? They're dog whistling hoping the unbalanced John Hinkley Jrs types are listening.

By the way Hinkley was inspired by the Travis Bickel character in Taxi Driver. Now they're even using the actor who portrayed Bickel to parrot the same message. They're losing, the lawfare tactic has already backfired, its their only hope at this point.

George HW Bush was CIA head as we all know. One major contributor to his 1980 campaign was the head of Vanderbilt Energy, a Texas oil company. That was John Warnock Hinkley Sr. I'm sure it's pure coincidence that his son shot Reagan when HW was next in line for the presidency.

Trump was convicted of a NY State crime. Presidents can only pardon Federal Crimes. Cannot pardon himself.

The catch though is that the felony is dependent on the federal election law. I've read legal opinions that basically say that he can pardon the felony conviction, which makes the lesser charges moot.
