Wonder how long before this type of tech makes it into the gun world. Imagine how airweight things could become if the strength is actually there?

I'm sure new technology will create lighter weight guns.
My titanium cylinder alloy frame S&W 342 is already ridiculously light.
It also kicks like a Missouri Mule

There is the reason why I think this would be a great thing for rifles, not pistols. I think we are already “there” with pistols, in that they can already be made even more lighter than is of value. I had one of those “Pug” 357’s once. Would rather shoot that 454 Cassul than that thing.
My wife’s AR9 is a plastic fantastic, aluminum, carbon fiber…. very light and great in that caliber. Would a 308 be as fantastic? Maybe, maybe not. As with pistols, you reach a point where a lil more weight is appreciated sometimes. I love 1911’s for this reason.
Someone needs to come up with a way to eliminate more recoil. Something like an extra tube under the barrel that has a sliding dam in it, that soaks up the energy. Otherwise as Barth pointed out the lightness costs too much to the shooter.

Yes. I think we have the knowledge. However, the application of that knowledge is hindered. A proper explanation of what I mean may award me with a tin foil hat badge.
