How do you get this thing out of second gear?
Downhill. Or with a stiff tailwind. Cute little bugger though. I've seen lots of Metropolitans but I don't recall ever seeing a wagon before.

Shift to third gear!
When I hear "can't get my car out of second gear" or something to that effect.
I always think of Sammy Hagar's - I Can't Drive 55 :)

Same here.
One of my girlfriends in college had a Metropolitan 2door sedan. I only rode in it once, and my knees were almost up to my chin.
My little MGA roadster was roomy compared to that thing.

We have the standard 6 ft. Fence in the backyard, and a few months Ago, I heard about burglaries increasing dramatically in the entire City. To make sure this never happened to me, I got an electric Fence and ran a single wire along the top of the fence.
Actually, I got the biggest cattle charger Tractor Supply had, made For 26 miles of fence. I then used an 8 ft. Long ground rod, and Drove it 7.5 feet into the grund. The ground rod is the key, with The more you have in the ground, the better the fence works.
One day I'm mowing the back yard with my cheapo Wal-Mart 6 hp big Wheel push mower. The hot wire is broken and laying out in the Yard. I knew for a fact that I unplugged the charger. I pushed the Mower around the wire and reached down to grab it, to throw it out of The way.
It seems as though I hadn't remembered to unplug it after all.
Now I'm standing there, I've got the running lawnmower in my right Hand and the 1.7 giga-volt fence wire in the other hand. Keep in Mind the charger is about the size of a marine battery and has a Picture of an upside down cow on fire on the cover.
Time stood still.
The first thing I notice is my pecker trying to climb up the front Side of my body. My ears curled downwards and I could feel the Lawnmower ignition firing in the backside of my brain. Every time That Briggs & Stratton rolled over, I could feel the spark in my Head. I was literally one with the engine.
It seems as though the fence charger and the piece of **** lawnmower Were fighting over who would control my electrical impulses.
Science says you cannot crap, pee, and vomit at the same time. I beg To differ. Not only did I do all three at once, but my bowels Emptied 3 different times in less than half of a second. It was a Matrix kind of bowel movement, where time is creeping along and You're all leaned back and BAM BAM BAM you just crap your pants 3 Times. It seemed like there were minutes in between but in reality It was so close together it was like exhaust pulses from a big block Chevy turning 8 grand.
At this point I'm about 30 minutes (maybe 2 seconds) into holding Onto the fence wire. My hand is wrapped around the wire palm down so I can't let go. I grew up on a farm so I know all about electric Fences ... But Dad always had those piece of **** chargers made by International or whoever that were like 9 volts and just kinda tickled.
This one I could not let go of. The 8 foot long ground rod is now Accepting signals from me through the permadamp Ark-La-Tex river Bottom soil. At this point I'm thinking I'm going to have to just Man up and take it, until the lawnmower runs out of gas.
'Damn!,' I think, as I remember I just filled the tank!
Now the lawnmower is starting to run rough. It has settled into a Loping run pattern as if it had some kind of big lawnmower race cam In it. Covered in poop, pee, and with my vomit on my chest I think 'Oh God please die ... Pleeeeaze die'. But nooooo, it settles into The rough lumpy cam idle nicely and remains there, like a big bore Roller cam EFI motor waiting for the go command from its owner's Right foot.
So here I am in the middle of July, 104 degrees, 80% humidity, Standing in my own backyard, begging God to kill me. God did not Take me that day ... He left me there covered in my own fluids to Writhe in the misery my own stupidity had created.
I honestly don't know how I got loose from the wire ...
I woke up laying on the ground hours later. The lawnmower was beside Me, out of gas. It was later on in the day and I was sunburned.
There were two large dead grass spots where I had been standing, and Then another long skinny dead spot where the wire had laid while I Was on the ground still holdng on to it. I assume I finally had a Seizure and in the resulting thrashing had somehow let go of the wire.
Upon waking from my electrically induced sleep I realized a few things:
1 - Three of my teeth seem to have melted.
2 - I now have cramps in the bottoms of my feet and my right butt cheek (not the left, just the right).
3 - Poop, pee, and vomit when all mixed together, do not smell as bad as you might think.
4 - My left eye will not open.
5 - My right eye will not close.
6 - The lawnmower runs like a sumbitch now. Seriously! I think our little sesion cleared out some carbon fouling or something, because it was better than new after that.
7 - My nuts are still smaller than average yet they are almost a foot long.
8 - I can turn on the TV in the game room by farting while thinking of the number 4 (still don't understand this???).
That day changed my life. I now have a newfound respect for things.
I don't care what type of humor you like this is funny
I appreciate the little things more, and now I always triple check to make sure the fence is unplugged before I mow.
The good news, is that if a burglar does try to come over the fence, I can clearly visualize what my security system will do to him, and THAT gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling all over, which also reminds me to triple check before I mow.

I've found in my old age, that I have to discount double check and triple check everything. Electricity has never been one of my strong points to begin with. You're lucky to be alive after being defibulated. May have even helped your heart rhythm At least you know it works, although I'm sure you would have rather had another test subject. Better increase your homeowner's insurance. If you fry somebody, they'll surely get a NY lawyer, and they'll be on the street, albeit a bit crispy.........................

Many years ago my father in law built a work shop in his backyard and ran power from an outside outlet on the back porch up to the shop but was having problems figuring out how to wire the switches and overhead lights so I offered to come over and take a look since I thought I had this wiring thing figured out pretty good…….Now he was a great carpenter and a really smart guy but apparently wiring wasn’t one of his best talents…....I started by turning the wall switch off, (power is off so all is safe right) unfortunately I later found out that he had run the live current to the overhead light and then over to the switch for some reason…....Well I started unscrewing the wires in the light fixture thinking I was safe when suddenly I felt a major jolt and started smelling burning hair and I remember a taste like burning bacon…….:2eek:……When I could talk again I sounded like Joe Biden on a bad day but I was still breathing and was lucky to be alive to live another day…..I learned two very important lessons that day, electricity don’t play around and if you choose to mess with it, a multimeter is your best friend…….

Guys, it was written in jest. Jesh!
I worked with electrical circuits for decades. I always use a meter to ensure a circuit is not powered, before touching it.
Fact: More people are killed by household 120VAC, than any other voltage, because folks don't think it's as dangerous.

Yesterday I spent about 6 hours in the ER recovering from another a-fib attack. Oh joy.
Returned home at 9pm to discover the central a/c had ceased functioning and it was 81 in the house.
We keep it 76 daytime, 71 nights.
When we went to bed at 10:30 it was still 88 outside. But with ceiling fans on we managed about 3 hours sleep.
Still 80 inside this morning and 77 outside, so we opened up for a couple of hours.
It’ll be back up to 101 or 102 again today with humidity.
Got a call into our a/c service provider, but if they make it by today the rate will be double probably.
If necessary we’ll spend the night at our son’s home nearby.
A-fib sucks youknowwhat through a straw.

Ahhhh A/C.....2 years ago our sweet dog, "WRECK IT RALPH" [his new name then] fixed our A/C. It was late March and I looked out the window to see him pulling the A/C unit off the slab breaking the pipes etc. away from the house. There was still snow on the ground and apparently he was bored. It ended up cheaper having the unit replaced rather than fixed. The A/C contractor said it was the second one he had done in the past week due to dogs "playing".

I keep two backup window A/C's for emergencies like that... used them 3-4 times with A/C broken... sometimes for over a week. i put one in the Master Bedroom and one in the family/TV room that sort of cools the rest of the house... that and ALL of the ceiling fans running. I have a spare generator, too, that won't pull the central unit, but could run the window units.
Our A/C was out for over a week at the start of this high-90-degree weather. It would get that hot inside without the A/C's. We kept it down to low 80's and cooler in the bedroom. We just could last in this heat and humidity. I almost sold the window units unused after many years, then we've been glad to have them. It stays in the mid to high 90's here and we hardly ever get rain.
I haven't watered my grass since last year and it shows, but I don't have a sprinkler system and don't want one. They are a pain to keep running and I have a curved driveway which complicates the watering patterns. I have to drag hoses and hope that my well pump runs. I've been installing and repairing or "fixing" my pumps for 27 years now... can be a real pain when stuff fails.
My well is Artesian... 730 feet deep, and flows at about 2 gallons a minute, but needs a pump to sprinkle. The 2" pipe coming out of the ground is at an angle and there was no shutoff valve when we got here. There was a pump with a spigot and a piece of Romex with a plug on the end to drag in through the rear garage door and plug it in. This was listed as an irrigation system! :D
I added a shutoff and improved the setup with a newer pump and air tank, and installed an outdoor GFC weather-protected dual outlet. I bought a few electrical DIY books and do my own work... installed my generator hookup and designed my own safety disconnect switch.
I just turned 78, so I stopped trimming the palm trees at 20+ feet, but I still do everything else, including installing stuff on the roof... antenna and weather stations, etc.
I'm not looking forward to installing stuff on top of my Ford Transit Van with a high roof... over 9 feet, but I need to get after that, too!

Dude don’t even think about climbing up on top of the van, get yourself a Home Depot 5x8 box trailer to pull behind, much easier and a whole bunch safer than falling off the van roof……..Trust me on that one, much earlier in life I was installing a turtle top carrier on top of our Astro van for a Florida trip and I managed to fall off (there might have been a few malted beverages involved in this incident but I ain’t saying) but I broke two fingers and jammed my knee in the fall which made the rest of that trip much less than desirable for sure…….

We have spent the last 4 nights there in his guest room.

We get our dog a squeaker toy about twice a year, as it is a sacrificial toy at most. I think the longest one lasted was maybe 15 minutes, until now. Found one made by the kong brand of dog toys. He's had it about 2 weeks now and keeps it with him at all times. He can't figure out how to kill the thing, but he doesn't chew on it any more. If someone steps on it, he grabs it very quickly and takes it away. I can't figure it out.

Our 150 lb rescue female Rottweiler, Doberman mix of a sweetheart baby dog we named Gypsy has a Kong toy we call her “Boogie” which we stuff with wrap cheese every night at bedtime which causes her nub tail to vibrate until she can attack and clean out every ounce of cheese in that thing, she has chewed on boogie for two years now and it’s still like new, they should start making tires out of that material, they would last forever……

Yup, the Kong stuff is tougher than most dogs. I don't know the brand, but we have the silicone whiffle balls and they only get destroyed if left in the grass and the lawn mower happens to hit them, or they deteriorate in the sun. Our Yorkshire Terror keeps it clinched in her teeth most waking hours.

Hopefully catch a few fish, work on my tan a bit, hang out on the beach and not do much of anything. Maybe not a lot different than home? I sure hate packing up to go.
Anyhow, be kind to one another. Army's in charge, try not to fire anybody.

Small venue and only a few good places to set up for a shot.
With multiple requests denied for additional SS support before the event.
And an innocent bystander clearly saw a man crawling up a building with a rifle.
Yelled at LE and pointed at the man for SS without notice.
Four shots fired, two dead and Mr. Trump survives a head shot by moving his head slightly while the bullet was in flight!
How in the Wild World of Sports did the SS let a man with a rifle have a clear <200 yard shot at Mr. Trump?
This appears to be a way beyond an Epic Fail by the Secret Service.
It looks very much like a Deep State JFK style assassination attempt.
IMHO, Mr. Trump needs a private security detail (possibly mercenaries) to protect himself from the Secret Service / FBI.
The silver lining to his historic event, a day that will live in infamy, is this should all but guarantee a Trump victory.
Now we need to see if he can survive to serve as our President

Barth I think you are spot on, there is no way in hell any half decent security detail wouldn’t have locked down that building and had a man up there which turned out to be a perfect roof top sniper firing position…….Trump should hire his own security because the SS completely failed to protect him………How deep is this state?
I'm waiting to hear what Dan Bongino's take on this is.

I walked right in and walked over to front door and looked out at the long line. I next decided to walk over to agent with my drivers license in hand to identify myself. He went on to tell me they had dogs trained to go for knee cap in order to disable any attackers, so that they would be able to question and not kill. Dr. Jill personally picked Kimberly Cheatle to be head of the Secret Service because she wanted to be sure SS was fully DEI compliant and wanted to have 30% female agents in the future…..Ms. Cheatle was formally head of security for PepsiCo, so she has much experience keeping those nasty Coke and Dr. Pepper bad guys under surveillance but seriously, security for a former/future President is a totally different ballgame….…If I’m DJT I would want 6’6’’ dudes around me that can rip phone books in half just by looking at them rather than a scared 5’6’’ Rosie O’Donnell look alike that can’t find her holster without a GPS and a road map to secure the weapon……..Just an old man’s observation….

Nah, they used to have ALL kinds of stuff for sale in the back of comic books and magazines. I remember all of the war surplus guns available for mail order. My favorite was the Lahti 20mm anti-tank rifle at $129.99 with shells a buck apiece, I think.
I went into the USAF in 1964 and before I got out and could take advantage of those guns, the GCA of 1968 had been passed and the cheap gun deals were gone.
But, yeah, there was a lot of wacky stuff like those ads, too.
The Sea Monkeys were a big disappointment... nothing like the pictures in the ads... more like something you would find in a mud puddle!

Back in the late 60’s in Atlanta there was a pet store in the Lenox Square mall shopping center that sold little 4” baby alligators for pets real cheap but the store made their money on aquariums and all the stuff to go in them…..Lots of people bought little gators but quickly found out they don’t make very good pets at all, they stink and like to bite the hand that feeds them……Most died in captivity but some were let go into creeks and lakes to fend for themselves, what could possibly happen?…….

What I wonder is how they can have a nominee or even a potential nominee that no one in any state even voted for. All the primaries were just Biden, how can they now ram thru a nominee that no one voted for? One more step towards socialism I suppose.
Giggles dropped out of the 2020 race early because she had no support. Wonder how it's going to be any different now. Wait, DEI is more of a thing now.
And when is the deadline for getting on the November ballot? I know I could google it and find out, but I thought there was at least one state that said that the Democrat's convention was too late in the year to get the Dem nominee on the ballot. Granted the convention isn't until August, but some states have different deadlines for printing ballots etc.
Not surprising no one in the media is questioning this.

I have a Cimarron revolver in .45 Colt made by Uberti and it’s a real nice shooter and is pretty accurate for what sights it has but what I am really hankering for is a Henry blued lever action .357 rifle which to me is the perfect caliber for that gun and the ammo is available for an almost affordable price…..Last .45 long Colt ammo I bought was $59 a box for target lead round nose which is getting out of my price range to shoot just for fun…….If I ever win the lottery I’ll look for a pretty Henry but for now I’m buying all the ammo I can afford………Next few months are going to be real interesting indeed………Strange times we’re living in these days….…..

My cousin had a setup like that in '68 Mustang fastback. I never had the money for a hot rod in those days. I drove a 1967 F100 Custom, short bed, with a 1969 300 6-cyl engine. Bought the truck with a blown 390 engine, cheap. My uncle owned his own shop and got me a deal on the 69 engine from a wreck. Drove that truck from 1975 until 1989. 3 on the tree, no AC, no carpet, no factory radio, no padding on the dash . Top speed was around 80mph, wide a$$ open. But lots of torque. Used to take it to the carwash ,and just hose down the interior. Wish I still owned it. Black with red interior.
Major downside, was the gas tank behind the seat, if I over filled it, you could smell gas for a day or two.

I used to pinch girl's butts..... You're pinching was probably safer. I also remember moisture would settle inside the handlebars and rust right where you pinched them. I found this out going down a steep hill and the one side just snapped off in my hand. Believe it or not, those bikes were hard to steer with only one side of your bars. Really hard when that side snaps off about 5 seconds later...............:o

Those handle bar issues were better than the handle bar issue I had growing up. My buddy used to hang out with the Misfits MC Club out of Boston; he got to ride the "CLUBS BIKE" a '49 Harley Hardtail with 64 panhead motor. It had a 14" or so extended springer frontend. I swear it had BICYCLE high rise handle bars on it. They were "pushed down" onto a splined clamp. I remember the week I got to use the bike and the bars would slide up off the splines......the bike had no front brakes of course and the rear brakes were a different EXPERIENCE. Anyone that rode that bike would be lucky to be alive....but hey got to ride a COOL BIKE. My buddy Nick rode it up to Laconia [east coast version of Sturgis]. He had to rent a Van to bring it home because too many pieces vibrated off and he wasn't able to ride it back. Ahhh the good old days! :2rolleyes:

Back in high school my friend had a hardtail panhead with an extended springer front end.
It also sported a jockey shifter with a suicide clutch
He let me ride it once.
I carefully rode it down the street.
Turned around.
Rode it back and gave it back!
That thing was truly Hell on Wheels ...

Farrah Fawcett was a big hit on campus at the U. Of Texas when I was there.
Never saw her myself, but one summer a couple of years earlier I had dated one of her high school friends from Corpus Christi.

The infamous "NlP" poster. Never was a huge fan, but still had the poster.

I suspect a lot of hand/elbow injuries when that poster came out.
