I agree, to some degree. Myself, and the few friends I have, shoot pretty damn good. I qualified as a NRA distinguished expert many years ago. One friend shoots 3-gun regularly and finished in the top 50 state competition . One other friend, shoots bulls eye at the amateur level.

But...so many times at the range, I see people that can't shoot worth shinola. And, they don't care. No desire to get better. People with lasers...you can see them pull the trigger EVERY time. Drives me crazy and scares me too. I don't want to get hit by accident. Lately I have mostly shot at an American Legion range near me. Almost everyone is at least marksman level. Not as stress full.

But...I think to myself, these goof balls have the right to bear arms. Not my place to scold them. They might hit a burglar, who knows.

We don’t do that in Florida often. Extra expense no one wants to pay. Some skyscrapers do that so the rooftop units aren’t visible since they’re ugly. But otherwise not.

We had real problems with squirrels getting in the attic the first couple years in our new house, drove me crazy when they had toga parties at 5am…..I actually went up in the attic several times with a single shot 410 shotgun to go to war but they would always hide and I never got any satisfaction but ever since we got Gypsy, our 140 lb Rottweiler Doberman mix rescue love puppy the squirrels seem to have left the vicinity and haven’t been a problem…..I guess even to a rodent, when you run into giant poop piles that are bigger than you are, it might be time to find a new yard to hang out in……..

We had a squirrel family move into our attic at the beginning of the pandemic.
It was very annoying to listen to them conducting a square dancing session right above our bedroom every morning at sunup.
Several searches for their access point and littering the attic with various types of rat traps were unsuccessful, resulting in much irritation & stress on our part.
After several months, our son finally discovered how the little chits were getting in - one of the exhaust fan pipes in the master bath had come apart at a joint. So when it was running, they could crawl in past the “flap” barrier then drop into the attic insulation quiety.
Son wired and duct taped the pipe shut that morning, then set out two live traps with peanut butter bait in the attic.
We saw two of the critters (an adult & a little one) hanging around the bird feeder over the next couple of days, and no noises from the attic.
That weekend, Son went up in the attic to discover a very angry adult tree rat in one of the traps. Removing the trap, he drove home through a large neighboring ranch where he stopped by the roadside and released the offending trespasser to become fresh lunch for the indigent coyotes.
All has been quiet above us ever since.

Yesterday I was at Walmart buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my brother's loyal dogs.
I was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had an elephant?
So because I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again.
I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward,
with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and that the way that it works is,
to load your jacket pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry.
The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again.
(I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.)
Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care, because the dog food poisoned me.
I told her no, I stopped to Pee on a Fire Hydrant and a car hit me,
I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard.
Walmart won't let me shop there anymore.
Better watch what you ask retired people.

Traditionally I usually hold the baby and lay a 45 on them and get a picture, but they put a metal detector in the hospital so had to leave the gun in the can. I guess I could have brought in the Canoli.
Must be an xray deal, it didn't go off with knives and all the metal in the chair and there was nobody manning the thing. Don't know what or how it detects a gun.
I'll try to get the traditional picture when he comes home.

Trip before last, the Southland Casino in West Memphis, AR, I walked through the metal detector as usual, my knife never sets it off, and when I got up to our room, I found that i still had my Kahr P380 fully loaded... and a 7-round spare magazine opposite side! There was no alert at all! Fortunately, we don't have to go through the detector on the way to the parking garage, and I took my EDC out to the safe in the van.

Usually if they are manned they just route me around the detector. Lots of metal and stuff on the chair. I hated to leave my gun in the van, felt so nekkid and vulnerable. I don't care much for hospitals, scary places. Anxious to visit the little dude at home.
Funny they predicted he would be over 10 lbs and recommended the C section for several reasons, but he came out 7# 13 ounces. Told son 13 ounces less and he would have been a throw back. Mom wasn't impressed.
I got one more little Chipmunk rifle all ready for him. I reckon it'll be a spell before he can play with it. Hope I'm around to see it.

Grandpa was the manager of his little hometown telephone company 1912-20. The whole system was battery powered, as the town was not electrified until about 1935.
He had a gas generator behind the office to charge up batteries for customers who didn’t have one of their own.

In 1920 he changed careers and opened a small automobile repair garage & blacksmith shop (his father, my great grandfather, was a blacksmith by trade).
Several years later he bought the large building on the mainstreet of the little town so he could expand the business.
When visiting during some summers in the late 1940s to the early 50s, my brother & I used to play inside, annoying the two mechanics who worked for him.
I posted an old photo of that building here not to long ago.
Grandpa sold the business to one of the mechanics in 1958 and retired.

Our grandson is now in 8th grade and into EVERY extracurricular activity you can imagine. He had to have a cell phone, but my wife and I got him a "Jitterbug" old persons flip phone for $80 bucks. The plan is cheap and he can call who he needs, but no data plan and very limited text ability. Last week he lost his cell at the bus stop in the morning. It lay in the grass all day until the young elementary age kids got home and one of them found it. We had suspended the service once we heard about the loss, but an hour later a local parent called my daughter-in-law to say they had the phone. Seems an old flip phone was of no value to the finder, so the phone wasn't a keeper...
Lively is the phone company and you can order online for grandkids who need it or pick one up at a local BestBuy. They were nice in the "service off...service on" bit and super easy to work with on the kids/old folk's plan.

I heard today that the phone they gave my granddaughter was her dads old phone. They just reactivated it after he got a new one.

Guess that helps some. My grandson a bit younger is plugged into electronic games on a tablet or he likes to get my phone and play. I do everything I can and grandma is good at trying to keep him busy doing something else.

Funny how kids know how to work all this electronic stuff. I probably don't do a 1/4 of what my computer or phone can do if I knew how.

Hybrid cars... :p

I was trying to not cringe at the idea of having one, but I had a revelation yesterday. The additional cost of buying a hybrid vehicle is more than the gas savings if you drive it 100,000 miles. I compared the RAV4 normal vs hybrid, 30 vs 40mpg, at MSRP and gas at $3.25/gallon. The difference in MSRP is $3,050, the gas savings is $2707. That doesn't count the cost of maintaining the hybrid system (admittedly that's very low for Toyotas).

To make it worse, hybrids don't use the electric motor all the time, so if you drive a lot of highway miles, you probably don't save any gas at all. So unless you're a tree hugger or virtue signaller, hybrids make no sense at all.

Not sure about the RAV4, but in the Prius, which I got stuck with as a rental once, the electric motor drives the car until you reach 30-35 mph. Then the engine is drag started and you run on the gas engine. There is a generator attached to the flywheel that recharges the battery whilst your in engine mode. When you need extra power, such as passing, or pulling up a steep grade, the electric motor kicks in to assist. The fuel savings is from the electric motor only at low speeds, and with the electric boost, you can have a smaller gas engine. Here in SC, we are in the foothills of the Smokey Mtns. On the interstate highways, there are many mile long hills. The speed limit is 70, the prius I rented, could not maintain 70 up hill. This was maybe 10 years ago, newer ones may be better.

A buddy who lives in Atlanta, owns a Prius and swears by it. He is in heavy traffic, and gets around 60 mpg with it. So in heavy traffic, might be worth it.

I currently own two vehicles, a 1999 Isuzu Trooper and a 2017 Kia Sorrento. If the wrong people win this fall, I am going to trade the Kia in on a new Gas powered vehicle, while I still can, and hope it last until I die.

Wife had me build a little cabinet for her birdseed and horse feeding stuff she keeps by the back door. Had some left-over wood and found a piece of glass that's been laying around for far too long. Surprised it didn't get broke at some point.
Anyhow I don't know how to cut glass, so I built me a little display cabinet to fit the glass. Sorta like buying accessories for a gun you don't own so you got a good reason to buy one?
Turned out halfway decent for a framer doing finish work.
No idea what that reflection is in the upper left corner, durned if I can figure it out.
