Ah,the Tandy Corporation….a name I haven’t thought of in years.
It merged with the Radio Shack Corporation.
My brother’s 8th grade classmate, Jon Shirley, when we were stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico during the early 1950s, went on to graduate from MIT. His dad was a Navy officer stationed there.
After college he worked for Radio Shack for 25 years expanding its operation to 7,000 stores around the world.
Bill Gates then hired him to be president of Microsoft. (Jon is now 86 and retired)
We knew him as something of a nerd kid even 70+ years ago. Smart as a whip.

When I was a kid and there was a family get together, just about every weekend, my brothers, cousins and I would take turns as the official beer fetcher. We knew our jobs were to keep the grown ups well lubricated so there was no complaining amongst us. Happy grown ups made for an easier life back then for the kids. Now days, if you send a kid to get you a beer, it is either considered child abuse, or you get a lecture from the kid on the evils of alcohol. My how times have changed.

I had a Murray lime green, banana-seated one-speed, and envied the kids with stick shifts. First page I'd turn to in the fat ol' Monkey Wards, JC Penney, and Sears Christmas catalogs was the bicycle section.
I'm getting old, though. My first thought when I saw that picture was, "man, her feet would stink".
For some reason I can't see half of what jeep posts. Like the last two, there's just a small icon of a piece of paper.

You? The bike? Or the girl? :)
Motorcycle is a Bridgestone 350, my girlfriend at the time was a 14-year-old brunette.
It's a two stroke and I seized the motor and locked up the back tire at 60 mph.
Sold it and bought a BMW 500.
Seized it on the freeway, had a BMW dealer rebuild it and sold it.
Then bought a Triumph Tiger 650.
Set the timing myself (too advanced) and burnt the pistons.
Rebuilt the top end myself and sold that bike.
I can go on and on.
Think you all can see a pattern here - LOL! :p

It is kind of like my neighbor whom is saving the planet....he bought both an battery powered snow blower and lawn mower. He gets about a third of his yard grass done on a charge and about a quarter of his driveway cleared on a charge. Then it takes at least 4 hours to re-charge. Got a kick out of watching him shovel out in order to go to work. :music:

Some battery-powered stuff is okay. All of my yard tools and hand tools are Ryobi-One-powered and I have a dozen or so 4-AH LI batteries and many charging "stations", but my mower is a John Deere Lawn Tractor.
I don't miss pulling those recoil starting handles... over... and over... or dragging electric cords.
With the tractor I just take my rubber mallet out with it and if the starter won't engage, smack it with the mallet until that thing pops up into the gear. I replaced the starter once, by misdiagnosis and need to put the old one back in, but too much trouble... as long as the mallet works. :D
I like technology and got all of the bells and whistles on my new van, but it's gas-powered and the hottest engine I've ever had with the twin turbos and sub-7 times in the 0-60 MPH testing.
I can't see the often need to recharge and how long it can take... when you find a recharging station.
One of my favorite "memes" was the all proud of himself guy with an electric car walking over to the guy filling up his Corvette or whatever, and asking him what kind of mileage he got. The 'vette guy said it takes him 3 minute to fill up... and the other guy just shuts his mouth and walks back to his car.
Our electric grid is really shakey and not sufficient for demand now... and... we can't build new power plants with all of the restrictions. How can we expect to meet demands of a closer to ALL-electric society and those demands. We can't cover the entire countryside with SOLAR panels and unreliable windmills. The latter are needing replacement or major repair after as little as 7 years... and make lots of noise and kill lots of wildlife... massive amounts of birds, and even eagles.
jeepster09
09-08-2024, 01:50 PM
I would be careful using mallet on starter. They are not like the starters of older days. Today's starters use magnets and not the copper windings of the past. I did like you on my snow blower a few years back and shattered the magnets with only a lite tap. The new starter was over $200 so I ended up just using the pull start.

I am ANTI TECHNOLIDGY. The TECH is great as long as it DON'T FAIL. When it does it costs and arm and a leg to fix. For example, the Toyota GPS is about 2 grand to replace. You can buy a Garman GPS for under a hundred. My NEWEST vehicle is a 2015 Impala RS. My wife loves her old 99 Jeep Cherokee. Easy and cheap to fix and they run forever. For winter I have my 2008 4Runner.

I begged her to get a 2015 or newer as that's when Ford decided to actually make the Mustang a little better. The 14 is nothing special for brakes or engine or anything else, basically a Taurus with a Mustang body. But she did it anyhow.

That 400-500 yards talked about is the distance between the shooter and Trump when the shooter was spotted while he was waiting. When you check the photo it appears the shooter was about 100? Yards from the 6th hole green where Trump was headed. So it would have been a much easier shot when Trump was in line of sight.

+1 on the Ryobi stuff. Everything I’ve bought comes with a battery and a charger. You can have tons of charged batteries sitting there, so no task is too big. Love their stuff. I buy at Home dee pot when they have after turkey day or x mas day sales, then get the 10% veterans discount. Sweet! Sure beats chasing an extension, or buying gas & additives & maintenance. The electric/battery tools have come a long ways. No way would I buy an electric car though. I love speed, and some of them are quick, but you have to realize right up front that you would do better financially to buy a bunch of scratch offs.

What Is Couple Sex?
--- What Is Couple Sex?
An 8-year-old girl went to her grandfather, who was working in the yard and asked him, "Grampa Bawanna, what is a couple sex?"
The grandfather who is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids was surprised that she would ask such a question, but decided that if she's old enough to know to ask the question then she's old enough to get a straight answer.
Steeling himself to leave nothing out, he proceeded to tell her all about human reproduction and the joys and responsibilities that go along with it.
When he finished explaining, the little girl was looking at him with her mouth hanging open, eyes wide in amazement. Seeing the look on her face, the
grandfather asked her, "Why did you ask this question, honey?"
The little girl replied, "Well,Grandma says to tell you that dinner will be ready in just a couple secs.

Same here, when I visited my grandparents in the summer. I’d save up money to take with me, and buy a box or two of 100-round .22LR Winchester.
My cousin and I would leave the house, each with a rifle, with the understanding to be home in time to be cleaned up for supper. The other implied expectation was that we wouldn’t do anything stupid. We didn’t. But, we shot a lot of pecans. When you are aiming at a pecan, you don’t have much wiggle room for error. And being 12 and buying your own ammo, we didn’t have much patience for missed shots. Fond memories.

For me it was Remington, the Western Auto would run specials, 2 boxes for $1.00. Back in those days, I usually shot my grandma's Remington single shot bolt action, circa 1930's. Heavy, but very accurate.
My grandma, had a Pecan grove, and she would call me over to shoot crows and squirrels. She gave you two bullets to start, and you got one more bullet for each varmint killed. We ate the squirrels, but the crows were left where they fell. Grandma had this great squirrel dumpling recipe.
Wish I had that old bolt action today, not sure which relative got it on her passing.

Never had a 22 as a kid but had a single shot 12 gage. We used to shoot crows at Kennedy's gravel pit [back in Massachusetts, yes those Kennedy's].
The crows would taunt and dive bomb us between shots. They would figure out our range and fly just outside it. Next they would dive bomb us when re-loading.

So true! I have nuts, bolts, screws, nails, washers, etc in a few different containers/drawers. Before I throw something away, I tear it down for the hardware. Never know when you need it. Been there, done that….but with couples.
Good ol’ high school days (1959-62).

I've read of folks hiding in the trunk to get into the drive-in for free.
In the early 70s in SoCal out in the high desert we had a three-screen drive-in.
If I remember correctly, it was $3 per car, not person :D
No need to hide anybody.

My dad’s ‘61 Impala had a big trunk and my buddies were not football players. One couple fit just fine..
Plus they liked the “close quarters” foreplay with their chicks for the 10 minutes they were squeezed in together.

I remember my parents having all 4 of us kids in the trunk going to movies. At our drive in it was PER PERSON. I still remember going to see BEN HUR that way.
It was in the trunk of a 53 Pontiac.
