Has anyone noticed flames coming from what seems like the breach while firing 357 and 44 mag? The 1st shot is normal sounding with report coming from barrel after that the sound changes and flames seem to come from breach. Getting hit with powder. Proper hold recoil mild with 357.

Yes. Back when I was shooting 44 a lot and quite a bit of 357, flames were pretty common. A lot depends on the load, the hotter the load, the more flames. Very noticeable in the dark or in a dark range.

Wynn posted some picture long ago at an inside range and the flames were very bright. Don't remember what gun it was but I don't think it was even a 357 and definitely not a 44. Think it was a Kahr.

One of the reasons you don't stand right next to a revolver shooter. The wife found that out when we were shooting one day. No major damage but sure woke her up.......................

Yep, if you shoot semi auto a lot and get used to thumbs forward against the frame and then forget when shooting a revolver you end up with a torched thumb, ask me how I know……..

I know with a revolver but I'm shooting a desert eagle.

As has been mentioned, ammo and load have a lot to do with it...............................

If you feel powder / residue hitting your face & forearms, it's likely coming from the gas port under the barrel when the slide starts to open. Some barrels are worse than others. It seems to be luck of the draw with individual barrels, not necessarily any given caliber or model. I have one barrel where the gas port just in front of the chamber is sharp enough that it cuts little chunks of copper jacket and some of it goes through the gas system and gets ejected back at the shooter, or wherever else it wants to go. Much of it stays in the dust cover, but you get peppered by some of the smaller chunks.

Thanks for your reply I get no copper jacket pieces like you but powder particles must be coming from where you suggested i thought the gun was firing partially out if battery but seems the bolt must the rotated completely before the hammer will drop. After 100 rounds the entire gun is covered with powder! Thank you John

Has anyone tried firing 44 special? Naturally single shot. Bought 2 boxes by mistake. Unless I just by a 44 mag revolver .

I've used that excuse more than once myself. Honey, I have these very expensive bullets but nothing to shoot them with. I need this revolver.........
