Nope…… kids used those to walk/clomp around on….like modern platform shoes.
The doubled cord was held up tight in the hands to keep the cans on the bottom of the kid’s shoes.

The “walkie-talkie” tin cans had a single string tied into the center bottom of the cans. And they actually did carry voice sounds to the other can at the end of the line.

I never been east of the Mississippi river. Wait once I did cross over the bridge into Illinois for catfish supper when I was very young. Love to visit sites like Gettysburg and a lot of those place but probably won't never happen.
I wouldn't relish moving to Florida with hurricanes and Tsunami's and alligators and tourist etc. Know people that live there and absolutely love it but don't think I'd be a good fit.
One of my prerequisites for my move is a place I can shoot off my back porch without bothering neighbors. A tough prerequisite.
My kids have talked about buying a huge chunk someplace and all living on it. Kind of a family compound. That would help I guess and grandma wouldn't relish being to far from the grandkids. She's kind of attached to em.

Give some thought to middle Georgia, summers suck but land is available pretty cheap and our gun laws are constitutional carry, no license required……..Deer are taking over the state so hunting is abundant if you are into it………I’m not sure how you can live in the commie west states with their crazy laws, there are so much better, more free places to live down here where you can still shoot from your back porch if you want to……Come on down south……

My view from in front of the back deck. I walk out back where I have a pile of logs I shoot in to. I wouldn't shoot rifle back there, but handgun is no issue. I used to have 80 acres of pines behind me, but they sold it a few years back and turned it into an organic soybean field. Cut down 80 acres of beautiful pines. These days, they grow soy, whether it sells or not. If it doesn't, the gov't pays you for crop losses. Did some investigating and found out that the owner applied one year for crop damage and was paid $17,000 for that year for that particular land. They paid $260,000 for the land.
